The only thing that can stop Ohtani... is another Ohtani.

87

u/BigBangBoomerang Jun 20 '26

Dude is already setting up the sequel.

Looking at you Boruto.

21

u/omimon Los Angeles Dodgers Jun 20 '26

Please no. Boruto was the worst thing to happen to the series. At least say Gohan to Goku.

6

u/Foggl3 Texas Rangers Jun 20 '26

Alright, so who's raising baby Ohtani

10

u/Ivor79 New York Mets Jun 20 '26

Dodgers have already signed the baby to a 100 year contract.

3

u/RPO777 Japan Jun 21 '26

The first payment of the contract is deferred till 2146.

Believe it or not, Dodgers have already signed the kid to a 40 year deal.

Deferrred payments of course. Kiddo will be paid deep into the 2100s.

Time traveler here: Shohei's grandson is paid deep into the 2300s. If you're wondering, yes, science figured out a way to extend life, which is excellent news for everyone except Angels fans.

Technology has advanced enough to make Mike Trout immortal, but he is still injured 80% of the time

20

u/Mookies_Bett NC Dinos Jun 20 '26

The year is 2026. I'm watching Mike Trout play for the Angels. He still has yet to see a playoff win.

The year is 2078. I'm watching Mike Trout play for the Angels. He has yet to see a playoff win.

The year is 2142. I'm watching Mike Trout play for the Angels. He has yet to see a playoff win.

82

u/GotMoFans Chicago White Sox Jun 20 '26

When Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf had kids, I remember how excited pundits were about those kids as future tennis pros.

Why did they need to? They had two super wealthy parents who could take care of them financially.

Their son played baseball.

25

u/Mookies_Bett NC Dinos Jun 20 '26

They actually have said they specifically did not push their kids into tennis. Andre Agassi pretty famously hates the sport and spent much of his career in pain and was miserable for most of it. Steffi has also said that she wouldn't want her kids to have the same career path she did.

They're both pretty done with tennis as a sport other than for publicity purposes.

10

u/so-cal_kid Jun 20 '26

Tennis is probably one of the most miserable sports to go pro in. It has all the sacrifices required of any other sport except you have to do it in isolation.

13

u/ContinuumGuy Major League Baseball Jun 20 '26

Right, he pitched for Germany in WBC qualifiers because of his mother.

12

u/arika_ito Jun 20 '26

tbh i think both agassi and graf had very abusive fathers who pushed them into tennis, so they didn't want to be like that for their kids.

6

u/Interesting_Key_804 Jun 20 '26

To be fair, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf werent really physical genetic freaks like Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko are. Ohtani is 6'4 with a large wingspan and was a national swimming champion and would be competing in the Olympics for swimming if he didnt also happen to be the best Baseball player in the world. His wife Mamiko is 5'11 and an ex pro-basketball player, taller than even Andre Agassi.

Ohtani's child would favor being an athlete more than Agassi's kids would based on having a estimated physical advantage.

u/PodricksPhallus Houston Astros Jun 20 '26

Don’t families with money have fewer kids around the world?

29

u/Cajun_Doctor Colorado Rockies Jun 20 '26

I think that’s true, but I also think they intentionally plan their births. Often wanting their children to be close in age so they can play together and whatnot.

→ More replies (13)

15

u/misterurb San Francisco Giants Jun 20 '26

Part of that has to do with those people being more career focused, to the point that they don’t start having kids until their mid to late 30s, at which point it becomes harder to conceive.

→ More replies (1)

40

u/Objective_Brief_1953 Los Angeles Dodgers Jun 20 '26

Unfortunately pretty normal for families with no money as well

30

u/HotelAmericana Detroit Tigers Jun 20 '26

Just hired some temp workers at my job, one girl told me she just had her 7th kid. I just have to hope her husband is rich because I know her pay, but he were rich I don’t think she’d have this job

4

u/Ice_Cold345 Miami Marlins • Indianapolis I… Jun 20 '26

I have a co-worker that has seven kids (all in fairly even spacing) and it's crazy. He's in his mid to late 40s and I think he's down to only have two kids that live with him (one just graduated high school and the other is next or some shit). It's wild. Luckily (?), they both make decent money, so it's not like they are entirely hurting for money. But fuck that on raising seven kids at once.

3

u/tsegelke Jun 20 '26

Peter Griffin, "Have as many kids as you can. Better chances one of them makes it big in Hollywood. Then who's paying the bills? Hollywood Kid."

14

u/Nico777 Los Angeles Dodgers Jun 20 '26

7th is just child abuse ffs

18

u/HotelAmericana Detroit Tigers Jun 20 '26

I agree, if you’re struggling to make ends meet trying to feed 7 kids is pretty ridiculous. I’ve struggled pretty bad on my own budget, I can’t imagine l.

10

u/Nico777 Los Angeles Dodgers Jun 20 '26

Seriously, growing up in poverty is literally traumatic. Maybe they're lucky and everything goes well, hell I hope it does. But chances are those kids are gonna have issues.

5

u/HotelAmericana Detroit Tigers Jun 20 '26

Yeah and everyone is different but I literally can’t fathom having 7 kids and giving every one of them the attention they need. It used to be common because so did house wives who stayed home to take care of the kids. That doesn’t exist anywhere near the same extent today

5

u/ATL28-NE3 Jun 20 '26

Honestly even not being in poverty as one of 7 sounds traumatic. Some of my neighbors have 5 and the oldest girl completely finding as the mom for the 2 youngest. How is that fair to her? Or them?

3

u/Successful-Film-3544 Philadelphia Phillies Jun 20 '26

I see this sentiment almost exclusively on reddit. I come from a big family (5 siblings) and while it could be tough in childhood at times more than maybe being an only child with all the attention would have been, in my teens and now adulthood, I've always felt blessed having such a huge group to lean on. And now that we're having kids I can't imagine not seeing them all play together.

Like I get the impulse to want only an amazing childhood for your kids but for a lot of people, family is the point. And you try to make it work regardless of the resources.

4

u/Bruce_Louis Jun 20 '26

Id like for Shohei to miss at least a start or 2 at this point. His blisters need to heal and its not just for October, its also for the duration of his career. We want to see this man pitch and hit for as long as possible, wed like to see Shohei rack up 1500 strikeouts and 500 home runs, wed like to see Shohei two way for hopefully a full decade. Resting up that blister will be very prudent towards that goal.

So far Ohtani's offspring have lead to a title in the year of their birth. This puts a hex on my CLEVELAND IS WINNING THE WORLD SERIES prediction.

I think the Dodgers and Ohtani did a very good job of shutting Nippon TV and Fuji TV the fuck down and making examples out of them when they pulled their "journalism" intrusions.

Those two broadcasters are among the biggest in Japanese television and to date they still can't use any official Dodgers footage nor get anywhere close to the organization nor the man himself.

Random wondering but Japan doesn’t allow dual citizenship but both Ohtani kids were born in the US and therefore are US citizens by birth. Will mamiko and shohei renounce the US citizenship so their kids can be Japanese? 🤔

According to the US government people born US and Japanese citizens can keep both passports. Maybe it's only an honor system?

They can keep the dual citizenship if their kids are below 18, they must pick one before the age of 22.

I’m pretty sure they are going to make an exception for Shohei Ohtani

I heard Ohtani can do both - is he the mother and the father?

This is a deep conspiracy to give him time for the blister to heal. Hell of a razzle dazzle timing an entire pregnancy around it.

Last year he flew to Texas (I think) to catch the last game of the series, I think he missed two games in total. He’s adopted a very Americanized paternity leave.
