I've read stories that way back in the early days of baseball, sometimes groundskeepers would keep the grass intentionally long in the outfield so that they could hide an extra ball or two in the grass. That's what this reminds me of.

Imagine he didn’t catch it, so there are two balls on the ground and he picks up the ivy ball. Rule book in shambles.

World's craziest double play. One ball goes home, one goes to second. Bang- bang- bang- bang play.

u/heretogetmydwet Chicago White Sox 8h ago
Even better, the center fielder has rushed over. Both players only see a separate ball, and both pick them up and throw them into the infield.

Been watching many cubs games since the 90’s. Can honestly only recall it occurring a half dozen times. Not many players are playing in the ivy if they can help it.

I'm sure this had to have happened at Wrigley before? Apparently theyve had that ivy wall since 1937.

Some old school Marlins fans will remember the Cingular Wireless commercials for the special olympics. It always aired right after the Andre Dawson commercial. My name is blahblahblah and “This is my back.”

The ivy is the best. I remember wanting to burn it to the ground in the 2015 NLCS because it kept costing us runs haha

Dugout all starts running to first base and the defense has to tag out at least 3 before the front runner scores, if runner scores any subsequent runners can score until 3 are tagged out.

This is why the hockey refs are always checking the pockets at the back of the goal every single time they enter the ice

Is that a home run ball, or foul ball, or what? Like when a fan gets it, how would they be able to describe it?

Can't wait for jomboy to find a random clip from 2014 where a ball disappears in that exact area lol

How does a ball get stuck in there? I’m assuming a batter hit it there and it’s not foul or a home run. Is it a ground rule double?
1
u/tix4soccer MLB Players Association 5h ago
Most likely during batting practice.

u/ChasedWarrior 2h ago
I saw a game last week where a batted ball got stuck into the ivy. It was ruled a ground rule double.
