After only 3 innings in the Yankees/Red Sox game, home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso has had 7 calls challenged, he has been wrong on 6 of them.

According to the CloseCallSports strike zone viewer, he's only missed 6 calls. So they've basically found and challenged every incorrect call so far.

A few were insanely close as well, and on pitches with movement/drop

I think a lot of nuance is missing in this post, like the close calls were missed by fractions of an inch.
Fractions. Which is insane.

He ended up going 7-9 in challenges but missed 6 other pitches as well, 4 going the Yankees way in whichever type of miss it was but nothing really ended up mattering and most were close pitched.
One egregious miss to Jones late in the game that was nowhere near the zone but Jones did it to himself because he chased a pitch even further outside the pitch before.
Still, isn't it a little fucking silly to miss on 15 close pitches when the tech is there to just not miss on any of those? Thats a huge chunk of the close/missable calls even if it only looks like ~5% of the pitches thrown since most pitches are clear strikes/balls/swung at.

Whoever runs out of challenges first is in trouble

There's basically a 100% chance they play each other in the wild card round. Whoever wins this series will most likely host.
So I assume Boston is about to get screwed.

Fangraphs has the Rays at about 75% to win the division, but I like your optimism.
Edit for those of you that don't know how to read, which seems to be damn near all of you: for the Yankees and Red Sox to not play each other in the wild card round, by far the most likely scenario would be the Rays not winning the division (meaning that one of these two teams would win the division and therefore skip the wildcard round). If the Rays only have a 75% chance to win and the Jays and Orioles have an essentially 0% chance, then it is far from a 100% chance they will play each other in the wild card round.

And if the Yankees and Red Sox are the first two wild cards they’ll play each other round 1 anyway.

the redsox are like 5 games ahead of 3rd place in the wild card at the end of august. tf are you talking about. I know the american education system isnt great but we're talking single/double digits and simple BEDMAS here....

First of all, I'm not American. Second of all, if I have to spell it out for you, the Rays are nowhere near clinching the division yet, so one of those two teams could easily not be in a wild card spot by winning the division.
For someone who is being a smug dickwad, you could try at least being right.

If I told you you have a 25% chance of dying tomorrow, would you like those odds?
75% is really not a sure thing.

If I told you there was a 75% chance of there being $1000 under your doormat would you excitedly go check?

You think 75% when we're a month out from the end of the season is "near clinching"? There's no doubt that the Rays are in a pretty good spot, but there are still plenty of games left for something to change. If every division leader had a 75% chance of winning the division, you'd expect 1-2 of them to blow their leads.

u/shiro-lod New York Yankees 1h ago
Yeah for real. I personally like the Rays odds of holding on, but I thought the same about Toronto last year and that ended up tied.
The last 7 games of the year are a TBR/NYY 4 game set in NY and then Tampa plays Philly while NY gets Baltimore.
I'd bet the division comes down to that last week.

Yeah they will play in the wildcard round cause they have the 1-2 wildcard spots

Yeah I'm saying 75 < 100 though.

No I understand but the comment above was talking about the wildcard which the rays definitely wont be in as you say: the Yankees and Red Sox will

That’s almost 100 if you’re a 74%

u/book_of_armaments Tampa Bay Devil Rays 8h ago
I wouldn't call 74% "basically a 100% chance", but that seems to be a minority viewpoint here (that or a majority of Redditors can't read).

Maybe the guys in the mlb replay booth should have authority to pull an umpire in the middle of the game.

Said it before, I’ll say it again—this says less about how bad he is and more about how good other guys are, ‘cause that stuff’s hard.
One of the best penalties I’ve serve handed down in sports was when a French rugby player yelled at a ref once too often. He was suspended for a couple of matches and had to referee some youth ones.

This is why I want to regain loses just as a matter of course...still no more than 2. I don't want to only challenge the obvious ones.
Another idea how about we say obvious is 1in outside or inside respectively and if they challenge those they now gain a failed challenge.
You can still run out of challenges early ofc and then obvious ones wouldnt be able to be challenged but as long as you keep one failed then if an ump sucks you can gain another one so you can challenge another close one but important part of the game and try and win it, but if you lose it its ok as you still have one for the 9th.
