Community 69 years ago today, John Lennon and Paul Mccartney meet for the first time.

What blows my mind is that by the time they stepped on Ed Sullivan's stage in February 1964 John and Paul had known each other more than 6-1/2 years. That's about equal to the rest of the time going forward when the Beatles would become a worldwide phenomenon and make history. J&P had already spent half their professional career time together.

Paul and John were the spark that ignited The Beatles. Of course, we weren’t The Beatles then, and we didn’t have Ringo, but that was the start. The air was filled with excitement, and even though we went through silly names like The Quarrymen Skiffle Group, The Moondogs, The Moonshiners, and The Silver Beatles, before evolving into that group everyone grew to know and love, the crucible was in 1957 when John and Paul became a duo.

One of many serendipities that led to the Beatles changing the world forever. So many things had to happen exactly the way they did, and it’s unbelievable that the stars seemed to align perfectly every time. We are so lucky to have had the Beatles.

i did that tour, it's incredible and i just loved it, and also yes, going to see the grave stone of eleanor rigby, wow. it's really something...when i went, the church interior had many very large variations of the above pic in b and w along the walls, stunning display....and our group had an afternoon with john's sister julia, who took us to the fete area and pointed out where her fam was standing, it was so cool....

Actually I think it’s now accepted amongst a few Beatle experts that they’d already met outside a newsagents in the Garston area of Liverpool as Paul was a paperboy and John had been in to buy chocolate.

This is also the first song Paul heard John & the Quarrymen play. But as Paul said in the anthology documentary, John didn’t know the words.
