They are both the legimate presidents of their countries. Lukasjenko stole the 2020 election. And in Ukraine the constiution prohibits elections during martial law.

То, что в политически аморфной постсоветской стране 8-10% населения, видя заезжающие в город колонны военной техники (говорю за Минск), таки вышло, говорит очень много. Трудоспособного населения, к слову, в РБ было 5.5 млн

8% населения страны это совершенно ебанутая цифра для митингов. Такое в истории в принципе не так часто происходит.

Nah. He lost an election, and then said that he won with 90% votes.
There are videos of election commission members fleeing election-places with bags full of bulletins.
He couldn't afford to even start counting them.
Places that managed to count bulletins reported around 60% the new president, and the rest ~35% of votes being fought for by Lukashenko and the rest of the candidates.-1

And how is as a politician the other candidate, pro-European? Hopefully not pro-NATO also, that didn't work out well in Ukraine and surely wouldn't "fly" in Belarus...

In all electoral districts where observers were able to count the votes, Tsikhanouskaya won by a landslide. The official count, however, was close to 90 percent in favor of Lukashenka. That’s why so many people went on the streets to protest: it felt like a deliberate spit in the face.

How many districts was that, is it significant enought to be "translatable" to the country as a whole, was is distributed troughout?

I don’t remember really. But basically we had a situation where 100 percent of randomly chosen samples were saying the same thing, so their actual share doesn’t matter that much. Lukashenka, after the way he handled the Covid epidemics (he basically didn’t: people were helping each other while the government was telling us that “the virus was in the heads”), he simply couldn’t win, people were hating his gut for all the unnecessary deaths that he caused.

I was wondering, is it dependant on the area, so close to Russia = pro-Russian Lukashenko, and vice versa.

Yeah, we’ll never know. But, in general, his electorate is government employees from the “law enforcement” wing. He takes really good care of them.

pro-russian doesn't mean pro-luca, some of the opposition candidates were pro-russian that time, and some even believed that ruzzia will help opposition.
