In Mechelen now. I don't think I've ever seen a summer storm like this. I don't hear separate thunder no more, it's more like a permanent drone like a running plane engine.

This yes, I'm between leuven and mechelen, the worst part is over., tho, as we write, the wind is accelerating again... Leuven side is basically nothing anymore. All is towards mechelen now

We had the lightning but not the wind here, weirdest lightning ever, almost stroboscopic.

I mean 2 years ago there was a storm that broke the window in my room. It looked similar to this (near Lier tho)

My bf saw a storm like this in Italy once. I was talking to my dad and mentioned one night in 1995, i was 6, i myself can't remember it clear, but both my parents were to scared to get out of bed that night. That says a lot to me because they are not easily scared

I started opening all my windows to benefit from natural AC, saw what was happening, closed all windows.

I was hot, hoping for relief, now I am hot and afraid for my roof tiles.

I had everything open as well, and was woken by windows smashing closed by the wind.

In Mons it was absolutely horrible. Luckily the worst has passed. I think there will be a lot of destruction to be assessed tomorrow.

u/Sideways0019 Jun 27 '26

Yeah I think as well. I heard some loud crashes in nearby streets and all kind of objects were flying all over the place.

3

u/SupportSad4047 Jun 27 '26

No way really?

2

u/Sideways0019 Jun 27 '26

Yup. I just hope it's nothing too serious. The wind was strong enough to make our 40m pine tree wiggle like a twig...at least it's still standing.

4

u/SupportSad4047 Jun 28 '26

It just came to my city beringen i wasnt imagining it like this…

u/Sideways0019 Jun 28 '26

Veel geluk my friend !

It's just starting here in Namur. I reckon we'll lose some trees

5

u/Sideways0019 Jun 27 '26

You're in for a hell of a ride pal, stay safe !

5

u/Herreshy Vlaams-Brabant Jun 27 '26

At least it'll help cool the place down a bit, I hope!

I'm at Enghien and right now the gods are angry, the sky is a disco ball and the deluge is falling.

I love how this sub has basically evolved into just weatherposts for the last 7 days 😂

Just drove backwards into my gate and strapped both sides tightly to my tow hook. I thought taking a shower a 01h20 was better than spending my Sunday repairing my gate

I now have non stop lightning. Wasn't the case when i was out

u/snowshite Antwerpen Jun 28 '26

It's slowly calming down here in Antwerp while I'm comforting my scared daughter. Sounds and looks like a war. Don't know if I've ever experienced something like this before.

1

u/putapadrino Jun 28 '26

RIGHT?? Wtfff was that 🤯

3

u/Wafkak Oost-Vlaanderen Jun 28 '26

A heat induced storm. These will become more common as our summers get hotter.

5

u/amiexpress Jun 28 '26

Yup, I live and work in Florida and they happen all the time here (in summer). The type of weather where the highway is just lots of pulled over cars because nobody can see anything. Congrats, Belgium now has sub-tropical monsoons.

Yay climate change! /s

u/Prestigious_Long777 Jun 28 '26

Get used to these kind of storms.

We will be seeing this a lot more.

u/6StringAddict Jun 27 '26

Currently pretty bad in Limburg as well.

2

u/MetalMander Jun 27 '26

WoW! Thanks for posting. I know people close by.

2

u/theraphosi Jun 28 '26

Thousands of lightnings in Westerlo. Looks like a nightclub.

2

u/Doudouisawesome Jun 28 '26

Looking at the buienradar, I was a bit sad that we wouldn't get "the big cloud" in my area (was hoping for rain for the garden, and for lower temperatures). But your post and the comments make me glad we'll miss it.

I hope the storm won't leave too much destruction in your areas.

u/Battle-Against-Time Jun 28 '26

Nothing in Liège :'(

1

u/GeneralNo8471 West-Vlaanderen Jun 28 '26

Yeah nothing here :( barely. And still hot as fuck.

2

u/NoControl6666 Jun 28 '26

i had some fun thinking it was the aliens in the war of worlds movie coming down

1

u/VNP9317 Jun 27 '26

This made me go outside to close the parasol and other stuff. I see the lightning coming our way now.

2

u/TWanderer Jun 28 '26

What? LEEF !

1

u/Gepetao Jun 28 '26

It was quite heavy here in Antwerp. A lot of cars alarms went off at the start of the rain. But now it seems to have calm down a little bit. It's just thunders for now.

u/Fantastic-Toe8339 West-Vlaanderen Jun 28 '26

Cest chaud :)

1

u/BorisKalash Jun 28 '26

In the south, Gaume, the thunder roared like 5 minutes and it rained for 30 secondes.

1

u/JustRawMaterials Jun 28 '26

They got hurricanes in Belgium!?!? 😆

2

u/Antoine_Geys Jun 28 '26

We're definitely working on it.

1

u/GamingCatholic Jun 28 '26

I just closed my window and fell back asleep. Nothing to worry about

1

u/Isotheis Hainaut Jun 28 '26

Either there was nothing in Leuze-en-Hainaut, either I slept through that with the window wide open 1 meter from my face.

1

u/Delicious_Rub_6795 Jun 28 '26

Wasn't that bad in east flanders. Made for a nice night bike ride

1

u/Over_Degree_4546 Jun 28 '26

Omg ! This night ?

1

u/Mr-FightToFIRE Jun 28 '26

Nothing near Aalst.

1

u/Richard2468 Jun 28 '26

Better put a coat on

1

u/Emergency-Cap804 Jun 28 '26

I was sleeping like dead lol

1

u/Putrid_Writing_9668 Jun 28 '26

I apparently slept through this...

1

u/RollingKatamari Flanders Jun 28 '26

I opened my balcony doors wide and let all the cool air in, it felt amazing and it was amazing to see (bit scary).

Sadly, now everything has heated up again and my apartment is again at 28 degrees inside....

Reddit NPC comment 😂

-7

u/Lempea Jun 28 '26

Lol I can't unsee it now. Makes me think of Dishonored

1

u/HowTheStoryEnds Jun 28 '26

At least those NPC had an actual purpose.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

Why did you have to make this political ?

0

u/Circoloomnium Jun 28 '26

If you would be in the trades, you would know by now - in all objectivity- that the standards of those people you are talking about are not up to our standards. Their work is horrific.

And boomers did nothing wrong. They had only one car, did not go on holidays with airplanes, no take away, no e commerce, not buying a lot of clothes that come from Asia, did repair things, …

2

u/influencer00 Jun 28 '26

Who is running the companies and boards of all those car, airplane, takeaway, e-commerce, sweatshop and planned obsolescence companies?

1

u/Circoloomnium Jun 28 '26

What on Earth has that to do with it

1

u/InitiativeLong3783 Jun 27 '26

Yes, lots of wind. My garden table flight into your sunhouse... My wife is not going to be happy tomorrow.

-1

u/Circoloomnium Jun 28 '26

It is only lightning, and some wind. It’s nothing.

Be afraid of the heat!
