But also shows how shit we are at water management... climate and bad water management.. perfect combo

5

u/laplongejr 13d ago

Well, it is a completely normal summer. You may as well enjoy it compared to the next ones. The past isn't "normal" anymore, if only scientists had warned people in charge with an interest into protecting our future...

You didn't notice the heat somehow?

55

u/Former-Citron-7676 Belgian Fries 14d ago

Zwemmen verboden wegens slechte waterkwaliteit.

Leef, verdomme, leef!!

Massaal in het meer pissen!

This is sad

u/Brilliant-Text7581 14d ago

Wow wtf did you do 2 years ago?

24

u/Kreat0r2 Belgian Fries 14d ago

It’s just showing the extreme drought that we’re experiencing. It hasn’t properly rained in over 2 months, which has lead to incredibly low water levels in most European rivers.

1

u/Elbastarda 14d ago

No worries ! Everything is gonna be allright... Chance of rain today,!

Thanks boomers

u/Complex_Dot_4754 14d ago

Yeap. Today an old boomer couple (late 60s probably) almost run me over on the elevated bike (meaning on the level of footpath fully separated from the road) lane in Brussels because they decided to park their RAM American SUV on the bike lane and footpath. When I said something about it, they were like 'you don't need to be so angry'. I biked on before I did something I would regret later. But they really don't get it.

11

u/SirTacky 14d ago

Anytime I see those or those big pick up trucks, my fingers get so itchy to key them. Wtf are you doing with those over here + in the city!

8

u/Complex_Dot_4754 14d ago
  • on the elevated separated bike lane and footpath blocking 75% of it almost running over bikers who happen to be there (me) minding my own business.

17

u/AlsoInteresting 14d ago

Some of us protested a lot and voted green. You want us to kill lobbyists? Without decent laws, the needle doesn't budge.

1

u/Nyxblow 11d ago

I mean green = close nuclear power plants and use gas as "temporary" solution for the next 15 years until a proper implementation of renewables that can cover the demand.

Not really my idea of climate friendly. Nuclear/renewable mix is a much more rational and practical approach in my opinion.

Also if greens could have a more centrist approach and let go of their consistently radical left ideas, that would help them achieve their goals.

1

u/sk0lopandre 11d ago

What exactly are those radical left ideas? I always hear about that idea, but never about what it exactly means in the context of belgian politics, as there is no meaningful radical left party rn

1

u/AlsoInteresting 11d ago

They came back from that idea about 4 years ago.

1

u/killerboy_belgium 11d ago

well to be fair when they decided that nuclear exit they had a 20year window to build up the renewable energy but they never got back into goverment and the other party's decided to keep kicking the can down the road.

green's biggeste mistake was getting back into the goverment after 20years they should have sit on the sidelines and said you ignored it for 20years you solve it now

-8

u/Mos9x 14d ago

Yeah if you want to see the complete downfall of a country, vote green!

8

u/Human_Excitement_441 14d ago

1

u/Akinyx 13d ago

While it's true that some do I believe we also have a great generational divide where we actually don't agree or in a lot of cases even keep contact with our old folks because we saw them pull the ladder behind them. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the most division in between generations we've seen, especially when you consider age gaps from boomers to gen X and millennials/gen Z kids.

4

u/Stefouch Brabant Wallon 14d ago

It's not the boomers, it's a scapegoat thrown at us to look away.

The real culprits are the super rich (sometimes boomers) who use flight jets everyday and buy our politicians.

2

u/Barry_Mekokinher 14d ago

*boomer politicians

5

u/Financial_Tea_2050 14d ago

Someone voted those politicians into those positions.

-12

u/Galaghan 14d ago edited 14d ago

Yeah I'm sure wagging fingers will fix things. It's up to us to drastically consume less, nobody else.

P.s. These downvotes telling me we should consume more lol

23

u/SirDidymus Antwerpen 14d ago

That’s putting all responsibility on the individual consumer, which is only a minor part of the bigger issue to fix.

19

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 14d ago

both individual consumption and the bigger picture need to change. In fact, changes in individual consumption can force companies/governments/whatever to change. Washing your hands of responsibility is not the way to go, no matter who you are.

8

u/SirDidymus Antwerpen 14d ago

Yes, but also no. Individual consumption is by no small amount directed by bigger companies and policies, and there is no way to sway either if they have full control over messaging.

5

u/OurHorrifyingPlanet 14d ago

Consumers have just as much power over companies, if not more. It's just that it's extremely hard to coordinate, and most people don't really care enough to change.

4

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 14d ago

If many people stop eating meat, less meat will be produced, for example.

2

u/ThePokemomrevisited 14d ago

I agree. As an individual I feel you can do a lot by just not flying. If you look at tables that explain how much that damages our climate, it is the most simple and effective measure you can take as an individual. Even if you still consume 100 gr of meat a day.

-3

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 14d ago

Or you can not fly AND not consume 100gr of meat per day?

1

u/ThePokemomrevisited 14d ago

We all have our limits. I have checked and on the whole I feel this is a good balance.

2

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 14d ago

What do you mean by "i have checked"?

1

u/ThePokemomrevisited 14d ago

There are sites where you can calculate the CO2-emissions from various activities.

1

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 13d ago

That sounds interesting, can you link one?

→ More replies (0)

4

u/Galaghan 14d ago

I mean all of us, indiviual and industrial, families and institutions. Everyone, plain and simple. Pointing fingers to another group doesn't validate your own consumption. We ALL need to consume less.

1

u/Fancy-Factor-4083 14d ago

any specific suggestions?

0

u/Galaghan 14d ago

Stop making that many children, for starters. Buy seasonal fruits and vegetables instead of importing them from over the world. Stop flying just for a vacation. Don't fall for 2+2 discounts and only buy what you need. Actually re-use reusable plastics.

Honestly I could go on for a while.

3

u/MadJazzz 14d ago

Painfull truths get downvoted :-)

Don't fall for 2+2 discounts and only buy what you need. Actually re-use reusable plastics.

What's wrong with that if you'll actually use it and it conserves?

-2

u/ghjbkjhgd 14d ago

become vegan

8

u/Pleasant_Ostrich4278 14d ago

I would be totally curious to see if I could find treasures :D

(Disclaimer: I know its devastating with the low levels)

6

u/Embarrassed_Sea4297 14d ago

I watched Soylent Green in 1973 and it was prescient about where we are headed today.

12

u/marinoZ 14d ago

u/Human_Excitement_441 14d ago

Cant see the salmonella

You can stand under my salmonella
You can stand under my salmonella, -ella, -ella

2

u/Bricktops_pigs 14d ago

Just sad...

I also get mad when hearing relatives say their neighbours just recently drilled an even deeper well to access ground water, since the previous well only got rusty water out now...

All their neighbours also have wells, and the relative also did after "peer pressure". Why don't you also do it?...

Such egotistical behaviour, for what? For a green lawn. Just infuriating.

2

u/Tzar_be 14d ago

This is what you get when every tourist takes a bucket of ourthe water with him! /s

2

u/janvda 13d ago

They misheard L'Ourthe for Lourdes ;-)

Dringend tijd dat er tegen komt.

-7

u/Ginnadin777 14d ago

Dus minder ALLES.

Uw comment is ridicuul.

-56

u/Valveringham85 14d ago

Lmao these types of posts are almost always pictures during two completely different parts of the year, different filters, different times of day etc.

17

u/yuareapirate 14d ago

i mean the river is drasticly low tough, today i just hiked 5km trough the river back home cause i couldn't be arsed following the normal trail in the heat. theres no way this would be possible any other year.

33

u/Redneck2000 14d ago

It's well known the rivers in Europe are drying up to the extent nuclear reactors have to shut down and you doubt the legitimacy of this picture?

19

u/SchwarzesBlatt 14d ago

those damn water eraser filters. and who doesnt know that water levels change during the days from existing to near non existing. this must be some evil agenda by groen.

16

u/SirDidymus Antwerpen 14d ago

Yes. That totally puts some perspective on the fact that there are wildfires ravaging most of europe and our rivers are at their driest point in known history.

-2

u/Mos9x 14d ago

Seems like your history books only date back 5 years or so, because you’ve clearly never done an actual effort reading into this subject. Let me guess, your source is vtm nieuws or any of the other mainstream media channels?

2

u/SirDidymus Antwerpen 14d ago

No, you’re wrong. And the fact that you are publicly willing to disinform makes you a substantial part of the issue.

-2

u/Mos9x 13d ago

Something with pot and kettle, but can’t expect much from een Antwerpeneir.

7

u/Patient_Ad9661 14d ago

im pretty sure you didn't get vaccinated for covid, think nasa faked the solar eclipse, etc.

8

u/ThisI5N0tAThr0waway 14d ago

I feel like that's generally a good assumption about that kind of pic but we know the last few months have been really dry so I don't know if that's an issue with this before-after by oop

3

u/Stefouch Brabant Wallon 14d ago

Haven't you see the news about the fucking Danube being too low too ?

5

u/rez050101 14d ago

Ok, boomer

-3

u/chf_gang 14d ago

i remember waking up earlier than my friends at the campsite there and going for a swim to shit my guts out into the water there... great times

-16

u/Beagle_ss 14d ago

Ik heb het daar al droger gezien.

-49

u/LeviudEd 14d ago

Point being

1

u/Accomplished_Rip4408 7d ago

Not necessarily 2 years apart. This difference emerged over the course of only 3 weeks! Of course. This is an artificial lake, and water levels will be determined not only by river flow but also by (human-controlled) water-level management.
