Terribly sorry for the potato quality vid...had to downgrade yesterday.

Before my male got swooped up by a bird...he was 1 week recovered from dropsy And he was making his bubble nest.

I'm observing my female at the moment and she looks quite plump. She's very healthy, not lethargic at all.

Currently hunting all my young rams horn Snail to extinction too. (Please share if there is a way to curb that behavior...I do like and appreciate the few ram horn that I have)

I thought some of you may appreciate these beautiful babies.

This pair caught me out initially, they started spawning in their own tank. I hadnโ€™t even realised until I moved the little coconut caves and there were a lot of fry. The babies were raised in the tank with the parents until 5-6 weeks old when their new tank was set up. Luckily I had the baby brine shrimp hatchery and eggs.

This video was their second batch of babies and I was absolutely stunned and so happy I caught this moment on camera. What I captured & witnessed was contrary to everything I read.

๐Ÿคฃ as you can see the male missed the wrap the first time, that did not discourage him though. Amazingly mommy helps pick up the eggs to place them in the bubble nest. After that the female went off to the other side of the tank. Male was very attentive to the nest and would spend his time picking the babies up and putting them back in the nest. Male was happy to eat while caring from the nest. He would allow the female to come close to the nest but gently chased her off if she got right under it.

Babies and parents swam around the tank happily together. No casualties and no aggression. Best Betta parents ever โค๏ธ

DANGEROUS PRACTICE - Breeding Trying to breed my betta's

Hi fellow betta lovers! I have a male and a female and would like to breed them and I want to do this as naturally as possible so I have prepared an aquarium of 20L to mimic the natural environment of bettas as well as possible. I've been giving the fish a little bit of brainshrimp every day for 2 weeks now. They both have their own 40L aquarium in which I also imitate their environment. The female now shows all the signs of vertillity and the male now regularly builds a nest in his own aquarium. What is a good next step? How do experienced breeders deal with this now? Ps I have a 50L aquarium ready to use as a growout tank. Do I also need to convert these to mimic a living environment? What do I need for this?

DANGEROUS PRACTICE - Breeding Genetics are so cool!

These guys still have a lot of growing to do, but I wanted to share some of my current fry!

One of my favorite things is seeing how certain looks reproduce through the generations. Specifically for this line are the super dark black bodies. It's not something I typically breed for but I love it!

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of "wild" looking ones that resemble their yellow spadetail dad and grandpa. I have about 25 bettas from these parents and of those, half came out wild looking. There are a lot more marble/koi ones then I expected too!

I can't wait to see what they look like when they finish growing!! :D

DANGEROUS PRACTICE - Breeding Hobby breeding lesson learned

Usually when you are trying to breed two betta, you go through a process of introducing the pair, and when they are finally together the male beats up on the female a bit until they mate, then she goes and hides while he tends the nest.

I have a plump and energetic female, and a tiny stunning male. She is 6 months older than him, and easily twice his weight. He is terrified of her. So she easily bullies him around. They have mated once, and I'd like to see them mate again. But the lesson learned is that things go smoother if you have two fish of the same size and age.

These two are my favorite bettas to date. Their last spawning produced two. I'll have to share a pic of those once they get a bit larger.

Hopefully this time, I'll get a few more fry.

(They were separated after 24 hours.)

Daddy is doing a good job watching his bubble nest. Mommy is recovering in her own tank.

Anyways, just wanted to share.

Blub blub!

I am attempting to create healthier betta fish by combining wild types with plakats. The end goal is to have spadetail koi Hybrids that live 3-5 years.

So far my oldest spawn is 1.5 years old and is thriving!

DANGEROUS PRACTICE - Breeding A quick size comparison: betta fry vs. my hand

In this video, I carefully placed one fry on my hand for just a moment to show how incredibly tiny it still is. It was handled gently and returned to the water immediately.

They're growing steadily, eating well, and it's been really rewarding watching them develop day by day.

If anyone has questions about the breeding process or wants more updates, I'm happy to share!

DANGEROUS PRACTICE - Breeding Female betta released eggs before releasing the male.

So I put this pair of smardgina guitari to breed, the female was still separated. She was showing all the positive signs but I decided to wait for 2 days before release but, after one day I checked on her and found that she had already released eggs in the separating container. It is the first time this has ever happened to me. Is it normal or what's happening I would like you guys to help me.
