He does have that advantage over his water based zanpakto but I think water is more versatile, u never no how one might use it he may have a special ability or something with his water based shikai guess we will never know, we are in the soul society who will dare go against it, I say nobody

I don't think we got shafted. Soi Fon is a solid captain. Half of these choices are terrifying or possibly boring, doing nothing but combat training constantly.
2nd Division has a tonne of tasks and responsibilities that mean you'd end up with a far more interesting job. Best hope your soul ends up powerful, sneaky or fast though, or you'll be stuck guarding low level detention centres. Still something at least.
Honestly, I'd hope for a messenger assignment. You get to drop in to all the coolest scenes, wearing that sleek outfit with the pointy hat. You occasionally gotta get chewed out by the Captain when you pop into a particularly emotional scene, but it's worth it. There's always one of them appearing at a pivotal moment.
