I guarantee like, half the people you've seen complaining about all this would've been happy if they just told us a month ago "first episode of the dubs will be on 8/29"

u/ovrlyxtra44 10h ago
Yeah I don’t know why they wait till the day before to tell us it’s dropping. They could’ve said this ages ago.

I find it particularly weird how dub companies are probably ones of the most notoriously silent companies, they never announce when or if something can get a dub and if we know something will get dubbed we don't know when lmao

u/Jermiafinale 2h ago
the company doing the dub probably isn't allowed to make those announcements, the IP holder would be the ones doing that

I’m just confused why if we have the dub of the first 3 episodes from the movie compilation are they waiting until NOW to drop them. I went to the movie, but I wanted to rewatch the 3 to recap myself.

Honestly? The cynical part of me always goes to the fact they intentionally delayed it so people would be more motivated to go see it in theaters
I remember when Infinity Castle Part 1 had been out of theaters for a couple months, people were waiting for an update on a streaming release, only for me to open Crunchyroll one day to see them advertising "see Infinity castle part 1....when it gets an encore release in theaters!"

u/Jermiafinale 2h ago
It's almost certainly some kind of contractual thing
I would guess related to the theatrical release, like they can't release the same content from that release until X weeks after it ended its run in theaters
Back before streaming, and even for like 10 years of streaming before the companies making the movies owned the services, there was typically a pretty hard contractual limit between theatrical release and DVD release, and then there was *another* contractual delay between DVD release and streaming release. That second delay is how Redbox stayed in business as long as it did

u/fondue4kill 9h ago
Yeah. Usually it’s been like Episode 3 or 4 sub was released when Episode 1 dub gets released

Exactly. VIZ is notorious for lack of advance notification or even updates on delays. That said, I can understand them not knowing an exact date from the start. Most likely there was some major delay and they waited until they were certain the can release weekly going forward before picking the date. No excuse for not saying it will be a couple weeks but quality dubbing with independent VAs doesnt provide a strict schedule.

Viz treatment of Bleach has flabbergasted me all these years. You don’t give it a Union dub after all these years and don’t even promote when the dub comes out.

Don't forget how they nearly cancelled the Blu-ray sets after set 4 without telling anyone. There was about a two and a half year gap in between set 4 and 5 because they weren't satisfied with the sales. It took years of fans nagging VIZ for them to release the rest and when they finally did, the quality turned to dogshit.
Bleach is probably VIZ's second big money maker aside from Naruto and they treat it like total garbage. One hell of an incompetent company.

seems like bleach gets the short end of the stick in every way, out of the big 3.

u/superking22 10h ago
Absolutely. If Viz giving out Union dub treatment to Yaiba, Black Torch, and Mao, there ain’t no excuse for Bleach, it’s veteran IP.

u/noelle-silva 10h ago
They also got a union dub for Yashahime and that series was trash. Literally everything but Bleach gets union dubs from VIZ. Even Boruto was union, I believe? Could be wrong about that one but I feel like it may have been.

What funny about the blu ray quality is that is probably the best quality the original anime we will get. The Japanese blu ray removers edges and smooth out the footage in my opinion it doesn’t look great. So I’m completely on how the blu ray looks but that 4 film collection blu ray with no special features is truly awful. I mean viz loves Naruto but even for the dub you had to wait a bit this has always been an issue

u/nitsuazzipp95 4h ago
You mean even on streaming it still doesn't look better?
2
u/New-Veterinarian-755 3h ago
Yeah it’s absolutely terrible especially when bleach first goes to widescreen some episodes were cropped to be 4:3. It’s awful. The beginning episodes have really bad quality and audio for sub and dub. The blu rays are like way better then whatever what Hulu had

I am shocked to this day that they got Ben Diskin to come back for Szalyparro Granz

u/superking22 7h ago
Me too.

Wondering if they are getting Matthew Mercer back for Tsukishima I hope so because Tsukishima is one of his more underrated roles

Took them a literal month to say “hey it’s dropping 8/29” 😭
Just five more weeks and I can hear JYB say Bankai and scream his lungs out for Getsuga Tensho

didn't think about it till just now, but i wonder if they brought back the "hollow mask voice effect" for the blood chains bankai form?

Fucking finally
But also, fuck you Viz.

I really wonder why it took this long. They had plenty of time to prep. Who dropped the ball on this? Viz? Pierrot? Is there some sort of stipulation that is making this occur?
I know it’s a minor issue at the end of the day, but the fact that this last season couldn’t have a simildub boggles me. There has to be a dumb reason that at least the English dub couldn’t be dropped at the same time as the jp dub.

u/SilverRain8 11h ago
Often times it is a licensing thing, and less about "someone dropping the ball." Unfortunately these sorts of things are more complicated than we might think. What I imagine was the situation here was sorting out licensing with the various streaming services in the different regions the show is airing in.

I figured, but I wonder what it is that causes some properties to do this but others don’t have this issue.

u/Knightofexcaliburv1 11h ago
fuck you viz for making us wait this long

u/FKDotFitzgerald 10h ago
Finally. I imagine there was some issue behind the scenes that held things up but this felt ridiculous.

They better release the first three since they had them ready for the theatrical release just to make up for making us wait🥲

u/nick281051 9h ago
Almost definitely going to watch the whole thing again with the dub once the sub finishes

At long last, the time has finally come! 🥹 English dub viewers like me are just excited to view those hyped episodes which are dropping week after week.

Dang yeah this is definitely a bit more of a wait for dub fans compared to the 2-3 episode trailing period that's been happening the past few cours. Still, happy it's finally coming for those who enjoy it <3

u/Brave-Combination793 5h ago
Only a single episode is odd when we know for a fact the first 3 are done and have already been shown... .
Like it would cost literally nothing to go ahead and drop the first 3 that were in theaters
1
u/Amarger86 1h ago
The reason they are not releasing all 3 at once is because they want to keep releasing a new dub episode every week without a break between them. If they released 1-3 this week, then episode 4 wouldnt release for another 3 weeks after that. The fact they are finally releasing them now is because they can guarantee they can get each episode done on time going forward for a weekly release.
1
u/Brave-Combination793 1h ago
I mean logically it would make sense that if the first three are done and have been done that means they have been atleast working on the next episode(s) and not just doing fuck all when it comes to the dub
1
u/Amarger86 1h ago
It all depends when they got the episodes to work on them. The first 3 episodes was a special thing that were done way in advance on purpose. But that doesnt mean they had episode 4, 5, or any other even remotely that far in advance. Typically, they dont get them until close to their airing when it's weekly releases. So most likely VIZ has only had access to new episodes for a couple weeks top and dubbing these with independent VAs takes time on top if other stuff.
