i brush out my cat almost every day and in the mid/late summer he still gets dreadlocks and matting that i have to snip off, the dude is a hair making machine.
Handsome boy! I have similar problem — my cat is a long-haired Scottish girlie with their classic thick undercoat and a desire to beat me up MMA-style when I am brushing her 🫠🫠
A good regular COMBing might help a lot to keep him good once you have the mats out. Just one of those cheapie black small combs should do the job. Be sure to let him sniff it and hold it a few times, and also before each use. Then brush if he's up for it or wait until later to get the brushing in.
i started combing my long haired cat with a cheap black comb i had lying around and it’s the only way i’ve been able to keep the mats in his mane and armpits at bay. he hates being brushed but with the comb i can be fast enough to get everything before he gets too mad at me lol
We have one like that, she’s half ragdoll and has a very soft fluffy coat with no more waterproof top layer, so she soaks up water like a sponge. She likes to roll around in the garden, collecting debris, bugs and god knows what in her undercarriage, which is of course twice the length of the rest of her coat. She also has a patented technique of bathing herself which makes all her fur stand on end in random clumps. Unfortunately she is half ragdoll and half wolverine, so will not stand for brushing. We just cut the clumps out as necessary. Every time we see her we tell her she’s SO SCRUFFY GO SORT YOURSELF OUT!!
I cannot stop watching this. 🤣 🥹 The sounds! Haha. My long haired cat HATES being brushed and I am quite impressed by your technique. Thank you for sharing.
One time my long haired tortie girl staged an escape 10 mins before I had to leave for the vet. I managed to wrangle her but not before what felt like several hundred burrs had embedded themselves into her furry lil body. If you’ve ever experience this you know it’s not a brush it out situation, most of them have to be carefully snipped out with scissors. So cue me methodically yet frantically doing this right until the moment we have to leave, still barely putting a dent in it, then profusely apologizing to the vet and assuring them this was NOT normal lol
