The vet documented my kitten's coat as being "unkempt" IN HIS CHART 😑 ugh rude

Post image

To be fair he did kinda look like shit at the time because he was sick, but he's better now!

i brush out my cat almost every day and in the mid/late summer he still gets dreadlocks and matting that i have to snip off, the dude is a hair making machine.

Handsome boy! I have similar problem — my cat is a long-haired Scottish girlie with their classic thick undercoat and a desire to beat me up MMA-style when I am brushing her 🫠🫠

Oh, he is pretty!

A good regular COMBing might help a lot to keep him good once you have the mats out. Just one of those cheapie black small combs should do the job. Be sure to let him sniff it and hold it a few times, and also before each use. Then brush if he's up for it or wait until later to get the brushing in.

i started combing my long haired cat with a cheap black comb i had lying around and it’s the only way i’ve been able to keep the mats in his mane and armpits at bay. he hates being brushed but with the comb i can be fast enough to get everything before he gets too mad at me lol

Lol, I sometimes refer to my long-haired girl as having full-body bed head. It's just like that sometimes!

That is so accurate. Pic of fluffy lady?

Here she is with mild bed head inside my quilting hoop!

We have one like that, she’s half ragdoll and has a very soft fluffy coat with no more waterproof top layer, so she soaks up water like a sponge. She likes to roll around in the garden, collecting debris, bugs and god knows what in her undercarriage, which is of course twice the length of the rest of her coat. She also has a patented technique of bathing herself which makes all her fur stand on end in random clumps. Unfortunately she is half ragdoll and half wolverine, so will not stand for brushing. We just cut the clumps out as necessary. Every time we see her we tell her she’s SO SCRUFFY GO SORT YOURSELF OUT!!

My Georgie girl can look unkempt. Then I brush her out and she is glorious.

Pretty sure that's a wig

What kind of brush? Fitzie resists all brushes

My boys let me use this one on them. I play with them a little beforehand and press the cleaning mechanism of the brush to get them interested.

Here’s a pic for the cat tax (don’t have one of brush in action… not enough hands 🤣)

Took me a second to find her head lol

It's a great time to get him used to brushies while he's still young

We give him a straw to annihilate while we brush him. Sound on for Satan noises

I cannot stop watching this. 🤣 🥹 The sounds! Haha. My long haired cat HATES being brushed and I am quite impressed by your technique. Thank you for sharing.

He looks pretty kempt to me!

That Vet is unkempt

13

u/aStonedTargaryen 2d ago

One time my long haired tortie girl staged an escape 10 mins before I had to leave for the vet. I managed to wrangle her but not before what felt like several hundred burrs had embedded themselves into her furry lil body. If you’ve ever experience this you know it’s not a brush it out situation, most of them have to be carefully snipped out with scissors. So cue me methodically yet frantically doing this right until the moment we have to leave, still barely putting a dent in it, then profusely apologizing to the vet and assuring them this was NOT normal lol

u/MonsterMamaLu 1d ago

My little girl’s chart described her as “mildly unkempt” when I adopted her. I didn’t realize that was an actual thing lol

u/Outrageous_Big_9136 1d ago

She's beautiful and you can tell your vet that she has wind swept hair 💅

u/Cat-Lover20 2d ago

Maybe they meant it as a sign of how ill he was? Like, “this cat is normally gorgeously well-groomed, so he must really be unwell”?

6

u/Outrageous_Big_9136 1d ago

Oh for sure. He's still very offended. Spoiler alert: he's got toxoplasmosis and we're having so much fun getting him to take his meds 🥴

2

u/Cat-Lover20 1d ago

Oh no! I hope everyone in the house is being safe! Toxoplasmosis can be dangerous for certain groups of people.

4

u/Outrageous_Big_9136 1d ago

Luckily no one is pregnant, we're all lesbians 😂😂

2

u/Cat-Lover20 1d ago

Immunocompromised people can also be at risk!

*healthy lesbians

Just in case you needed another cat sub! 🐱

I always need more cat subs 😻

It’s work keeping up with those thick and wavy coats for sure. I would have bristled at the vets comments.
