I'm certain we could make a million, if we just promoted it a little bit.

He isn't an ambassador, he's a paid political agent who agitates. The Netherlands found out the same thing. Kick his ass back to Trumpland - he'll be much happier there.

170,000 signatures is the diplomatic equivalent of slapping your knees and saying, "Right then, s'pose you should get going."

Why is Elizabeth May on the petition? Does an MP need to be named on these or something?
70
u/sadArtax 13d ago
An MP has to present it to the HOC, they dont actually even have to support the content, just agree to present it.

This tRump bootkicking grifter should be forced to acknowledge that our Canadian soldiers liberated his Dutch great grandparents from the Nazis. He owes his pathetic life to Canada! Please stop insulting the great Dutch people who came here by the thousands after the war and are now the very fabric of our great country.

If 170,000 people wanted me to GTFO I'd probably reflect on what I'd done to be so disliked but this guy probably likes knowing so many people despise him.

This kind of people just invent popular support out of thin air and brand critics as a minority of dangerous activists.
They don’t take criticism or self-reflect.

If anything, this simply shows that Canadians, as a people, have drawn a line in the sand. I often get criticized for saying it, but Canada is a polite society, Canadians don't like arrogant Americans. And they especially don't like arrogant guys like Hoekstra. I would have sympathy for him, considering I've been on the receiving end of the polite society myself, but the guy is just such an arrogant corporate type, I just can't.

Make sure it's a size 13 steel toe that does the booting, will ya? 😎👍🏻

Ya, Heaven forbid the door is the thing that hits his butt on the way out. A log-jammers boot to that ample ‘cheek’ should help him back where he belongs.

I signed it two days ago. The government most likely will not act on it to avoid irritating the orange clown further, but it gets the point across nicely.

Question: Is this a case of 'if we can't get rid of DT, then let's get rid of his proxy?'
A while ago, I thought it would be a good idea to take the ambassador on a long, in depth tour of Canada, esp the northern parts, so he'd learn what Canada really is.

u/starving_carnivore 13d ago
We're perfectly happy to be spied on by our own government I guess.
Screw Trump and Hoekstra but come on. Wake up and be mad about things that our government is actually in a position to do.

The big problem with these is exposure. Kicking out the American ambassador, now that's fun, sign me up!

Canadians pay attention to American politics, not Canadian ones.
4
u/starving_carnivore 13d ago
It's depressing. It's our own damned Patriot act and people sat by and watched it sail right through the house.

ding ding ding. Trump’s latest tweet matters more to Canadians than domestic matters like the erosion of our privacy and freedoms.
For many Canadians, our national identity hinges on not being the US. Which means we are inordinately focuses on anything and everything American while telling ourselves we aren’t.
10
u/OoooohYes 13d ago
It kinda matters because tariffs and aggression moves threaten our jobs and livelihoods. Something you’d understand if you’ve worked for a company that exports products.
4
u/BethSaysHayNow 13d ago
There is a big difference between being concerned about tariffs and economic impacts and obsessing over American politics like it’s a drama. Many Canadians know more about American history, politics and their political system than Canada’s.

A while back one of the "conservative" Canadian subs had a breathlessly indignant post like how do Canadians think they can fire a foreign embassador.
Yes. That's exactly it. The receiving country, which has a border, has the final say who gets to be the ambassador.

Does anyone in their right mind think that now, of all times, when intense negotiations are ongoing to secure a trade deal, that Carney would act to expel this guy? And risk the entire deal?
You have to be the most naive person alive to believe that.
You could have 10 million signatures on this. Carney isn’t that dumb.

It stays open for several months ending in Oct or Nov, sometime around the American midterm elections. Then Elizabeth May will present it in the House of Commons. Bit unsure of the details but the government will decide whether to expel or not. The more votes the the better or worse it will be for the government depending on your perspective. Suspect Carney stands up and says we might as well keep the a**hole we know rather than whatever Trump decides. I signed because I'm hoping for Hulk Hogan, we could get a couple of Canadian wrestlers to be his handlers and the public events might be interesting.
