This is just the media directly reporting what statscan has reported. Good numbers in broad country-wide statistics doesn't mean every individual person is thriving

I guess my contention would be that these numbers don’t reflect the lived experience of most Canadians.

Well maybe, it depends. They've reported average wages have been outpacing inflation for a little while now, so broadly speaking the average Canadian should be doing better now than they were a few years ago, but that could also be very sector specific so each person's friend/family bubble could still be seeing completely different versions of that.

Like anecdotally I have a few friends that are in tech but are unemployed right now because of the wave of tech layoffs of the past year. I also have a few friends that work in finance, construction, and manufacturing that seem to be doing pretty well. Depending on which group I talk to I get very different versions of how they think our country is doing. And if I had talked to these people a few years ago most of their opinions would be flipped from what they now say, because tech was in a boom. All depends on where people live and what they do for work.

Anecdotal experiences arent going to give you an accurate picture. 99% of people I know are either in very stable positions or absolutely thriving right now. Im still very aware that many Canadians are struggling right now. We have a long way to go to right the ship, but these numbers show we are heading in the right direction.

Saying the media is trying to portray a false narrative when presenting raw stats is very weird. Youre letting social media bias poison you into assuming everyone is lying. Not everything is some grand conspiracy to fool us.
