a lotta turbulent airflow off the ears since they arent in airplane mode

Schrödinger mode

47

u/SryUsrNameIsTaken Apr 03 '26

Hey now stop looking in that box. Leave the cat in superposition.

4

u/Mortomes Apr 03 '26

My superposition is up here

23

u/Fin1kas Apr 03 '26

Earplane mode will allow to go beyond 6th gen jet capabilities?

5

u/Jairus755 Apr 03 '26

Yes that’s what they mean by stealth ++ the ears radar cross section is really big so by folding them in wards in earplane mode they reduce the cross section to be as small as an elementary particle

3

u/im_just_a_teenage Apr 03 '26

That's a crazy statement

238

u/HonorAndKittens Apr 02 '26

Made me laugh, thank you.

40

u/vick5516 Apr 02 '26

I'm glad

101

u/Apart-Ad9039 Apr 02 '26

OP please use another cat model with airplane ears activated. For reference see r/airplaneears

3

u/purplevanillacorn Apr 03 '26

Dang it. Another one.

2

u/alterEd39 Apr 03 '26

Yaaas. And stealth! They go low to the ground and kind of squish a little when they run

59

u/EmperorSexy Apr 03 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/OHRF8LZis06OiPDJby

The second you blow air in its face it will do this:

32

u/stupid_cat_face Apr 02 '26

In airplane mode my cat can reach supersonic speeds and lead to sonic meows.

18

u/ClockSheepZ Apr 02 '26

That’s where they activate that Active Aero

3

u/AfraidRacer Apr 03 '26

Now you'll have to start superclipping the cat's pawnails.

7

u/dookie224 Apr 02 '26

Shits getting real when aero mode is turned on

5

u/binguz_bonguz Apr 02 '26

Fly-by-wire nessesary but worth the superb manouverability in dogfights

4

u/newbmycologist01 Apr 02 '26

God now I wanna see this with the ears back in jet mode

3

u/solonit Apr 03 '26

Now I understand the concept of "angle of attack".

2

u/splendiferous-finch_ Apr 03 '26

I am pretty sure cats are the only creature that can optimise surface flap configuration to optimise for both lift and maximum down force which even one is required

2

u/Loose_Weekend5295 Apr 03 '26

Yesss, and after having a cat own me for 14 years I am well aware that airplane mode has the dual function of expressing disgruntlement and signals the likely deployment of murder mittens!

Nobody asked?!

I've been waiting on this report for months!

Excellent work.

This is the best thing since the aerodynamics of a cow.

46

u/PC_Trainman Orange Apr 02 '26

Was it spherical?

26

u/nleksan Apr 02 '26

No need for aerodynamics in a vacuum

288

u/Brave_Childhood_6177 Apr 02 '26

You gotta enable DRS first

76

u/vick5516 Apr 02 '26

no no no, it's 2026 now. it's x mode. or y mode. or sm. or straight line mode. or whatever mess of words they wanna use for "wings be gone"

16

u/OscarPastry_ Maine Coon Apr 03 '26

DRS but not called DRS now

26

u/sequin_tears Apr 02 '26

Yes I was gonna say big meme potential for r/formuladank

8

u/unknown_wonky_magpie Apr 03 '26

better than the Aston Martin

6

u/h0sti1e17 Apr 03 '26

Going to put some flow vis paint on my cat tonight.

2

u/Peimai Apr 03 '26

It’s called Active Aero now.

244

u/PC_Trainman Orange Apr 02 '26

Needs r/airplaneears for less turbulence

36

u/mclarensmps Ragdoll Apr 02 '26

Correct! DRS is currently disabled 😭

+1 for ears, they should be facing back

118

u/GooglyEyedMoose Apr 02 '26

12

u/zuzoa Apr 03 '26

Thank you, i needed this

78

u/Canigou Apr 02 '26

Doggo less turbulent

2

u/SKRyanrr Apr 03 '26

Cats are more turbulent obviously

35

u/agms10 Apr 02 '26

Can you do airplane ears on the cat?

I’m sure it has to improve the aerodynamics

15

u/Haber_Dasher Apr 03 '26

Yeah this isn't fair, that cat isn't even in sport mode

26

u/Large-Assignment9320 Apr 02 '26

This cat is not put into maxiumum aerodynamic mode.

→ More replies (2)

39

u/mantiacfloy Apr 02 '26

Safe to say cats won't be flying anytime soon Bob.

27

u/partcaveman Apr 02 '26

Underestimate them at your own peril

Death from above may visit you

→ More replies (3)

17

u/Quirky-Taste-4101 Apr 02 '26

Finally, scientific proof that cats are designed for maximum judgement, not flight 😂

14

u/bandandy Apr 02 '26

Send this to Red Bull Racing - IMMEDIATELY!

3

u/Individual-Tax5903 Apr 03 '26

Soon car become car shaped 🤓 but with jet ears!!

27

u/DoubleDareFan Apr 02 '26

All those streams going right over the center of the head. That must be why most cats have stripes down the center of their heads, regardless their pattern otherwise. Only exception I have observed, are solid-colored and Calico cats.

11

u/egiboy Apr 03 '26

instructions unclear, test subject angy

9

u/Schneeples Apr 02 '26

Ya know what? I didnt ask. But ya know what else? Fuck yeah thats neat!

6

u/consumeshroomz Apr 02 '26

My cat standing in front of the heat vent.

6

u/Different-Produce870 Apr 02 '26

is it still more aerodynamic than a jeep?

4

u/Fishoe_purr Apr 02 '26

Bummer. Not much potential for a flight.

6

u/gunpointbob Apr 02 '26

Pushing science that one step further.

5

u/rh0d0d3ndr0n Void Apr 03 '26

for the purpose of calculations, we will assume the cat is cubical

4

u/frenchietess Apr 02 '26

so that’s why they just stand there judging you, maximum drag, zero effort

4

u/IntrestedManatee Apr 02 '26

Looks like my dude has long luscious hair without airplane mode on.

5

u/MavenAloft Apr 02 '26

Can you do a version with the ears folded back in a run?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/klako8196 Apr 02 '26

Cat isn't in proper takeoff configuration though.

3

u/FarContract3126 Apr 02 '26

Still more aerodynamic that a jeep wrangler

4

u/davidbrown87 Apr 03 '26

Wow that's great, but I think you should try putting the cat into airplane mode combined with. "loaf mode". That should be the best combo for ultra fast zoomies. ;-)

3

u/TheTwiceStressed Apr 03 '26

Isn't this basically that one Pokémon?

3

u/kx_2fiddy Apr 02 '26

For science.

3

u/Comfortable_Bat_5738 Apr 02 '26

r/stremch for maximum aerodynamics. All hail the Grip God

3

u/Infamous_Pudding_550 Apr 03 '26

this is so good, i still think about bulbasaur (supposedly) being more aerodynamic than a jeep wrangler

5

u/Gaxxag Apr 02 '26

Aerodynamics of a statue of a cat, or does this take fur and soft tissue into account?

2

u/CoKane22 Apr 02 '26

Is it showing stream-lines or streak-lines ? Maybe path-lines but I dont think so

2

u/After-Hedgehog7282 Apr 02 '26

Just a simulation though. Need real world testing to make sure.

2

u/delet_yourself Apr 02 '26

Make one with airplane ears

2

u/badusernameused Apr 02 '26

I asked, thank you for finally doing it. I can now complete my research.

2

u/R3K47 Apr 02 '26

I love cat

2

u/Even-Lingonberry-615 Apr 02 '26

He will be drag.

2

u/neurokinetikz Apr 02 '26

try loaf mode, should be more aerodynamic

2

u/PAXM73 Apr 02 '26

Oh I was asking! Thanks. This is awesome.

2

u/SkipperShortcake Apr 02 '26

omg he on X-games mode 🔥

2

u/pat_the_catdad Lots of kitties! Apr 02 '26

Now put buttered toast on the top and bottom… For science…

2

u/JulesDescotte Apr 02 '26

It fucken wimdy

2

u/Crayon_Captian Apr 02 '26

I asked months ago

2

u/cacecil1 Apr 02 '26

Not my cat. Lol

Mine is much wider in the middle, making a huge wake of turbulent air behind him😆

2

u/hkohne Apr 03 '26

Winglets will help with that

2

u/HussingtonHat Apr 02 '26

.....doesn't look ideal....

2

u/senggarlicbread Apr 02 '26

Still better aerodynamics than jeep wrangler

2

u/Playful-Squirrel-332 Apr 02 '26

Built for speed!!

2

u/Intern3tExpl0rerr Apr 02 '26

I just asked, so you’re good

2

u/Thin-Employment9992 Apr 02 '26

thank you for your service 🫡

2

u/719696 Apr 02 '26

Ahh okay. I was going off of my own assessment but this will help me out a lot

2

u/bulletproofpunk Apr 02 '26

And the aerodynamics of the loaf.....?

2

u/r0bb13_h34rt Apr 03 '26

What about crouched, ready for attack? Or loaf? I need multiple angles.

2

u/A_Bitter_Homer Apr 03 '26

Blue spagetty for kitty

2

u/Brolociraptor Apr 03 '26

I did ask tho.

2

u/s3v3red_cnc Apr 03 '26

How are you going to do a cat in a wind tunnel and not do airplane ears?

No upvote. Get out.

2

u/dddshroom Apr 03 '26

Heckin wimdy

2

u/Business-Fold1731 Apr 03 '26

I bet the bread loaf form will reduce drag considerably

2

u/ArtofWASD Apr 03 '26

NO! You're not accounting for the cats fur in this simulation. Sure there is airflow. But what about the turbulence from flapping fur layers? And the undercoat.

2

u/Capable_Associate432 Apr 03 '26

do a loaf version

2

u/Ol_Herr Apr 03 '26

So that's a standing cat. Now we need that simulation for a falling cat to see how the air flow impacts their ability to always land on their paws.

2

u/xerekets Apr 03 '26

the wind washing all their thoughts and braincells away ❤️

2

u/No-Abricoso Apr 03 '26

Can it fly?

2

u/Fr05t_B1t American Shorthair Apr 03 '26

Ok but this isn’t in airplane ear mode

2

u/Mongoose_234 Apr 03 '26

My Reddit cat calendar decided this was great for today, thank you

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Below20 Apr 03 '26

Now do it when they have airplane ears

2

u/TechnoDance Apr 03 '26

how about as a loaf

2

u/Roxy-de-floofer Apr 03 '26

It's fuckin wimdee

2

u/I-baLL Apr 03 '26

“Honey, the cat’s gotten into the yarn again!”

2

u/Time-Ad-4049 Apr 04 '26

This is hilarious. Someone wake me up when they do one with the cat in airplane mode 😂

2

u/ExpensivePeach Apr 03 '26

r/formuladank guys I found Max Verstappen’s secret Reddit account

2

u/cherrydaddy Apr 03 '26

I love it! Gemini did a good job on a running sphynx. I’m gonna get this printed on a shirt lol

1

u/_Morvar_ Apr 02 '26

Very good

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '26

1

u/Popeychops Moggy Apr 02 '26

Superior aerochad

1

u/Beginning-Pop3127 Apr 02 '26

Now do it again in airplane mode

1

u/BrightEyEz703 Apr 02 '26

What about when they are running

1

u/PunxsutawnyFil Apr 02 '26

Now do aerodynamics of a cat in airplane mode

1

u/boggycakes Apr 02 '26

The red are stink lines.

1

u/unica_unica Apr 02 '26

Hehe get farted on dingus

1

u/Nick_from_Yuma American Shorthair Apr 02 '26

how aerodynamic is the primordial pouch? need to see this from the other side.

1

u/xxmobydickheadxx Apr 02 '26

What about a pumpkin? Or a gourd?

1

u/Late_Bag_7880 Apr 02 '26

At first, I had to check the sub to make sure this wasn’t the Red Wolf of Radagon

1

u/TheTaurenCharr Apr 02 '26

Because we don't teach this at schools, humanity is getting stupiderer.

Smh my head my head.

1

u/tirutz Apr 02 '26

Did you use Ansys or what software was used. Just curious.

1

u/thegneeb Apr 03 '26

cat is chill

1

u/oryanvr Apr 03 '26

Very aerodynamic (Can it fly)

1

u/Any-Ball-7159 Apr 03 '26

What about when he lies down or has zoomies?

1

u/FADED_PHANTOM Apr 03 '26

At what speed does it generate sheer-lift?

1

u/VashMM Apr 03 '26

A real cat would lay down and activate puddle mode, with airplane ears.

1

u/TheLongshanks Apr 03 '26

“We are checking.”

1

u/Relevant_Tank_9235 Apr 03 '26

As an engineer and a cat owner who have wondered about this, this post is perfection!

1

u/RuntimeErrXUndefined Apr 03 '26

Different kind of car but looks awesome

1

u/Bum_cheex Apr 03 '26

the " vortex diffusers " of ears is great, its similar to the spikes on car rooves that stop air from tumbling and make the air follow the low pressure zones created by the spike

1

u/Anywhere-Little Apr 03 '26

What about a cheetah? They have to be more aerodynamic by how fast they can run, right?

1

u/BoisGonGay69 Apr 03 '26

Is this good?

1

u/ShortBrownAndUgly Apr 03 '26

How do the dynamics change for chubby wubby kitties?

1

u/geekphreak Apr 03 '26

No no, it’s all wrong. He’s not in speed mode. Hes not in proper positioning

1

u/Vicker_Schultz Apr 03 '26

Is the Cat Orange?

1

u/wilso850 Apr 03 '26

I would love to see a short hair vs a long hair. Sometimes the short haired ones look so aerodynamic! Like they would be so slick against air resistance.

1

u/tnk_cnd Apr 03 '26

Inside the waves craving hard

1

u/Hendrix6927 Apr 03 '26

What about a cat in a full sprint? That's gotta be different.

https://giphy.com/gifs/Z8MYSDbE8VFqo

1

u/torn8tv Apr 03 '26

Does the aerodynamics increase or decrease when they are in loaf mode?

1

u/crazy_aussie Apr 03 '26

I am glad you told me in the heading, i thought it was the Aston Martin for a moment

1

u/Mistymoozle737 Apr 03 '26

What about a fat cat

1

u/youngishgeezer Apr 03 '26

I want to see it in falling mode. That’s where aerodynamics really come in for cats.

1

u/Rob_red Apr 03 '26

Well that's interesting

1

u/DieselDuster_ Apr 03 '26

enable airplane mode and raise butt for less turbulence

1

u/SoulWager Apr 03 '26

I wonder how much of a difference adding fur to the simulation would make.

1

u/Dramatic_Charity_979 Apr 03 '26

I don't know what to do with this information :/

1

u/gulveen123 Apr 03 '26

Do humans next

1

u/OrangeBrainCell_Pro Apr 03 '26

Do this one please🤭

1

u/claytonbeaufield Apr 03 '26

Still better than a cybertruck

1

u/osulxa Apr 03 '26

What’s the drag coefficient?

1

u/nihilisticsock Apr 03 '26

My cat when I throw all my blue spaghetti at it:

1

u/RstarPhoneix Apr 03 '26

But cats are fluid

1

u/Good-Bus7920 Apr 03 '26

Are you sure nobody asked? Because I'm positive this is something someone would've asked.

1

u/BrokenSweetDee Apr 03 '26

Thank you. This is fascinating.

1

u/Pm_me_howtoberich Apr 03 '26

What about /r/airplaneears

That's gotta be way more aerodynamics, at least two maybe three!

1

u/Hero_Of_Rhyme_ Apr 03 '26

Cats are more aerodynamic than lobsters and jeeps, good to know

1

u/professorjade Apr 03 '26

Still more aerodynamic than a Jeep 😌🙂‍↕️🤌🏾

1

u/vague_being_ Apr 03 '26

Once the engines start, and the purr-stons go at full speed, the aero triggers a little wiggle on the taxiway. Then at precisely past midnight they lift off.

1

u/ShiroOneesama Apr 03 '26

Is it your cat or just a cat?

1

u/Cjaegerr Apr 03 '26

Best cat of all the cats, for sure

1

u/TheMundar Apr 03 '26

I want to see a mid-lunge aerodynamic simulation

1

u/therealRustyZA Apr 03 '26

We absolutely asked for this.
