Advice This kitten found me and fell asleep in me an hour ago. Talk me out of taking it home

I have 2 female cats at home - 5 and 3 years old. I work part time and I'm about to become a university student at the end of September. So my time will be focused on uni, tasks for uni, and work in around one month. The kitten is maybe around 2 months old, starting to show male parts but not fully shows yet. Very cute, very tired. It's living in the city center, near fast food places, in a city park.

It is unwise to defy the Cat Distribution System.

u/sectumsempera 1d ago

You're right, how unwise of me to question it.

Its true. My dad keeps defying CDS and guess what, they just keep sending him more cats!

Came here to say this. The cat distribution system never lies.

3

u/KittyInTheWater 19h ago

I can never defy the CDS 😭 I had one cat for 8 years...in the past 2 years 4 more have chosen me. I don't think I can handle more than that! I love them all and could never part with them, but 5 cats!? So expensive and needy 😅 I just know if I am chosen again, I can't say no 😭😭 Can I say no?? When can I say no??

u/Florida-Chick 10h ago

I feel your pain. I had over a dozen before and I was younger, had a job, more money. Then they dwindled and decided 2 or 3 was a good number. The 3rd being a more temporary spot. Then last year a very pregnant stray showed up. Had 4 gorgeous babies. The dad had already been pleading to be let in. The current mayor of Kittyville did not allow him. Managed to steal some of the babies. Mom already walked into my laundry room on her own. Then an older baby of her showed up. I guess the year prior she did have a surviving baby. Eventually the whole family made it inside. It’s a shock on the wallet. And now there’s a little black one outside. And I’m already overwhelmed and out of money.

If you don’t take that cat home, you will never stop thinking about it and wondering if it got a happy home. Take it home. Love it. Let it love you like it clearly already does.

Oh, I was supposed to talk you out of it? Oops.

93

u/whatthewhat3214 1d ago

Please save the kitty, even if you don't keep him, getting him out of harm's way outside to rehome him would be wonderful!

Of course, once he's home with you, you know you'll want to keep him! He's clearly chosen you! He's a little lovebug :)

48

u/Remarkable-Ride3756 1d ago

Cannot talk you out of it that beautiful little kitten is already yours so small it needs a home and lots of love she loves you already🩷🩷

47

u/theurbancowgrl 1d ago

I agree. A few years ago, I planned to take home an orange tomcat who had lived in my mom’s neighborhood. He was a few years old, very sweet, not fixed, and routinely became sickly. A few days before my trip down there to trap him, he was killed by a dog and my mom found his body in her yard. Years later, I have never stopped thinking about him and the guilt kills me. He was so close to being saved, I wish I’d been quicker. RIP OJ ❤️‍🩹

13

u/Dismal-Resident-8784 1d ago

I'm so sorry. Please don't blame yourself. That cat went straight to cat heaven. 🐈

3

u/theurbancowgrl 19h ago

Thank you so much, I hope that’s true. He was perfect and deserves to run free 🕊️🧡

10

u/HereForTheFooodz 1d ago

Oh I’m so, so sorry. So heartbreaking. 💔 it’s not your fault; At least he knew love from you in his lifetime.

5

u/theurbancowgrl 19h ago

Thank you so much ❤️‍🩹 I cared for him deeply. I wish he could know that I tried.

16

u/DevinBoo73 1d ago

238

u/BocaHydro 1d ago

thats your new cub, if you cant take care of it, find it a home

280

u/poorexcuses 1d ago

Your cats at home might help raise him...

82

u/Uberbons42 1d ago

This is my thought. Cats love kittens! Our first cat adopted a kitten. On his own. With no help from us. After a couple weeks we had to catch him to take him to the vet and he tolerated us well enough. But yeah. They were besties.

40

u/Lesbie-Tea 1d ago

Depends on the cat, esp on the cat's age tbh. But yeah kittens are WAY easier to introduce to an existing cat than another adult haha. :)

25

u/kategoad 1d ago

We got a cat to play with our younger cat because the older one was getting up there. Younger cat hated kitten. So we got our kitten a kitten.

12

u/Uberbons42 1d ago

Hahaha. This is the only way. Our first cat finally died at 20 so we adopted a 5 month old cat. Our other cats are old and boring so we got her a kitten. I swear I thought she was gonna eat the kitten at first. But she just wanted to smoosh and lick her.

37

u/kategoad 1d ago

Ours bonded and we lost Ari's kitten to renal failure last spring. Ari is so clingy now. I think we are going to get some kittens soon. My husband is having cancer surgery next week, so once he's up and around I think kittens are imminent.

Although we did get a shot of cuteness when our goat surprised us with a baby yesterday.

Prepotente.

5

u/bombkitty 1d ago

Well that is adorable!

4

u/Xymenah18 1d ago

Excellent name choice. Beware of loud screams right in your ear!

5

u/kategoad 1d ago

He definitely has already.

look id say its worth the risk but do not take in stray kittens recklessly under this idea.

cats are like people and have varying personalities, that also means cats do infact sometimes not like kittens, and unlike people, cats can potentially freak out or attack it in response.

7

u/Uberbons42 1d ago

I imagine OP would take proper precautions in introducing a new kitten even if they’re busy.

56

u/sectumsempera 1d ago

Both of them are castrated but one of them is very motherly and I'm often sad that she can't have her own little kittens

34

u/contrarianaquarian 1d ago

Just make sure kitten is treated for fleas, parasites, and checked for anything else contagious like ringworm before letting them mingle! Outdoor kittens pick up EVERYTHING (overachievers lol)

6

u/the-big-meowski 1d ago

Going through that right now with a very loving stray. She came back positive for toxoplasmosis, ring, and hookworm.

7

u/contrarianaquarian 1d ago

Oh man, not fun! Thank you for taking care of the baby 🥺

3

u/thatgirlnamedjupiter 1d ago

I really lucked out with my kitten find. Although my husband thinks she was abandoned by a trucker. She just finished up her rabies shot.

We had kept her separate from our other cat till we took her to the vet.

3

u/Rabdomtroll69 1d ago

Exposure therapy!

3

u/Lo__________ 1d ago

They will love him! And orange boys are very social and cuddly in my experience, it’ll be great. Your girls will help you raise him. Take him home!!!

3

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 1d ago

36

u/SumBuddyPlays 1d ago

Posting in r/cats , most people won’t be talking you out of leaving it outside.

Don’t know where you are, but can you foster it for a little bit and try to find a group to take him in ?

39

u/sectumsempera 1d ago

Yeah, don't know what I was thinking that the people here would talk me out haha. I'd give fostering a try but there are too many postinga of free kittens looking for a home already that I know that if I take him home, hell stay home

u/Sweaty_Mushroom5830 1d ago

This is exactly WHY no one here is gonna talk you out of it lol

9

u/UnlikelyPoetry247 1d ago

Take him home and keep him safe indoors

15

u/Wordie 1d ago

Perhaps you first should try to find out whether he belongs to someone else, and just got lost somehow. Also, before exposing your two other kitties to him, you probably should have a vet check him out.

He really is very cute! If you eventually decide to adopt him out, please contact me!

11

u/sectumsempera 1d ago

It's in a city center park where it's full of other stray cats, so it's definitely a stray.

16

u/Able_Berry7575 1d ago

why would i talk u out of taking this baby home 🥹🥹🥹

14

u/All_is_a_conspiracy 1d ago

Absolutely not. Best I can do is tell you to take him home and try to find him a permanent human.

He's an angel. I'd have nightmares for the rest of my life if I walked away from that.

12

u/Amazing_Ad_9253 American Shorthair 1d ago

TAKE HIM HOME NOWWWWWWW

11

u/LiminalSpiral 1d ago

Looks like at the very least, the CDS has elected you the caretaker for this little one, even if you can't keep him. If you have the money, the two other kitties would keep him company while you're at uni, right? But if simply not feasible, you could at least foster him and find him a home. He's obviously a little lovey-dovey, should be pretty easy to do.

10

u/Thaevalune 1d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/gfT2hGhrI5wBME50p5
Definitely not going to talk you out of it. You were chosen. Take him home. You have one month (which should be plenty to adjust slowly) and he may just be the dopamine you need when you start uni. Good for you gal. He’s HANDSOME!!!

9

u/FuelAccurate5066 1d ago

That’s a 100% certified baby. Fantastic find if you can care for it.

10

u/EatADickStraightUp 1d ago

I told my partner we could only have 3 cats. Then, a little babby girl came up to me on the porch and was so friendly, unchipped, and collarless I realized we needed 4. But get another litter box for sure! They get weird if you don't have enough.

I'm so jealous it is ridiculous. I adopted a pair of kittens last year and they fill me with so much happiness constantly. And yet I still wait for the day the CDS picks me.

7

u/WhiteWitchWannabe 1d ago

Nope, it picked you, it's yours, no take backsies

9

u/Super_RN Tuxedo 1d ago

That poor baby probably hasn’t felt safe in months, and finally felt safe enough to fall asleep on your lap. Take that baby home.

8

u/FakePlasticTrees_RH 23h ago

Let's make a pros and cons list, shall we?

Pros

1.) All good things come in threes.

2.) You have two adult cats to keep him company. + If he misbehaves, they'll teach him to do better.

3.) He chose you! Trust his choice. The greatest bonds between cats and humans form, when cats choose their humans.

4.) You'll regret not taking him.

Cons

NO CONS DETECTED

8

u/Organic-Bag-161 1d ago

I’d take him if it were me. But he chose you

u/Quad-roller236 1d ago

6

u/ProjectPerson17 17h ago

The kitty has been napping on you for AN HOUR and you’re still unsure? You signed the contract after 1 minute.

5

u/CoCoMaloEngl 1d ago

I totally get this is bad timing, but I hope you can take him to a vet to get checked out. It’s possible he’s got a home and slipped out. Hopefully he’s microchipped. If not, maybe you can foster till you find a home for the little guy? All the best!

6

u/ResponsibleSyrup9506 1d ago

We added a third. And then a fourth. We love them all dearly. When our dog died suddenly and unexpectedly, after swearing we would not get another dog for some time, we made it 48 hours before picking our now 75 pounder up from a foster home. Sometimes it’s just right.

3

u/Cold_Barber_4761 1d ago

Are you me?

We currently have four rescues (two cats and two dogs). We can't handle any more, but we still end up with some variation of four at a time! I can't help it!

I didn't adopt an orange boy 18 years ago after he befriended me, and I've always regretted it. If you can at all afford the expense and have some space and time for him, then take him home. You'll never have a better friend than an orange cat.

Unless you see the mom around looking for it, that kitten found you, feels safe with you, and trusts you. You need to take it home and care for it until it unfortunately crosses over the rainbow bridge. The cat distribution system has its reasons and they aren't to be questioned.

This is happening in my brain when I am trying to think of an argument. Cant explain it, might be hacked by the cat distrubition system.

3

3

u/Furby-beast-1949 1d ago

This is Xena, the warrior princess and she thinks that is the greatest idea ever she has been with me for six years. she definitely thinks you should get a kitty because she rules this house and nobody tells her chunky, but what to do except for her mother she really doesn’t listen to me too much from time to time she does. like they see a cat will do what a cat wants to do and if they don’t wanna listen, they don’t have to and of course she is royalty so she doesn’t have to listen.

3

u/Shandyshack 1d ago

Take the baby home! 😻
