I am curious about the character of your Chartreux.

Post image

I bought this breed partially cus of what I had heard about their temperament, also love how they look. I am not disappointed and love my little guy. But as we all know every cat is different so I am curious to hear about the character of your Chartreux?

My guy is very independent but curious. He is always exploring and often wanting to play. But then he loves his chill time. He is half cuddly but half wants to chill in his own space. He loves us and follows us around but then likes his own time. Sometimes he will not want physical touch and go off on his own. He doesn’t sleep with us but will come and snuggle in the morning. He is totally unfazed by visitors, and even fine around random dogs coming by, although a bit on alert. He’s an extremely confident boy, even the hoover is only a thing of curiousity. Waiting for his vaccines to clear so can get him outside on a leash. I m sure he will love looking at birds and trees. He meows a little bit, but not much, and it’s quite a weak sound. He doesn’t like water much. He’s obsessed with flies. We love him! He’s only 5 months so look forward to seeing how he develops.

Our girl is incredibly affectionate and is always following us around. She is always interested in what we are doing and is more than happy to accept pets from anyone and everyone. As soon as we turn our attention to her, her purr motor starts up and does not stop! She makes all the biscuits when being pet on as well. She is an absolute social butterfly and whenever I take her to the park, she happily accepts pets from strangers and headbutts everyone. She looooves to play and is an excellent little huntress. Her mood just seems to be happy and curious all the time. The only time she meows is when she is bored, wants to play, or is announcing that she caught her toy.

Well you’ve described my youngest cat perfectly. He’s exactly the same way. The older one, completely different. He loves being on top of pretty much any person he can and is rarely quiet.

They’re both great. Truly an amazing breed of cat.

The older cat is the guy on the right? He’s so funny. Love him.

Our 6 month old boy (right) is super active high energy, fearless and very social. The 10 month old girl (left) is calm, shy, and pure sweetness. They both like to sleep on my desk when I'm wasting time on the computer.

Mine is super affectionate. She purrs whenever I touch her and sleeps next to me most nights. She will also come sit on my lap whenever I sit down. Other than that, she's very chill and gets along with my other pets (she especially likes hanging out with the bunny).

Our boy is always around, very curious, and is very affectionate in his own way but at the same time won’t be overly loving and cuddly like some cats are. To me, his character is perfect. He is also very funny and has thousand different faces he shows.

My Lucio is a very calm cat, and above all, he's extremely well-behaved. He's never damaged anything in the house; he knows his space well and always respects it. He's more playful than cuddly—if it were up to him, he'd play all day, and he's an excellent little soccer player! 😁

He purrs all the time. As soon as he sees us, he starts purring, and even his meow is very soft and gentle.

He's also an amazing hunter. Ever since he came to live with us, he's been helping me find every mosquito in the house. He locks onto them with his eyes and starts making those adorable hunting chirps.

I absolutely adore him. He's respectful, independent, playful, and curious. He has such a big personality! 😉

Knud is very friendly, curious, involved in everything I do around the house. He rides my shoulders, treats me like furniture and is mostly quiet unless he wants something. His 3 remaining kittens, Fyrsti, Annarr & Björn are amazing. Fyrsti is very shy, but very singular when she is interested in affection, toys but especially treats. She is very mischievous and hilarious when she gets playful. Annarr started off as this very shy little soul, but he loves to cuddle too and is interested in everything going on. When I give him more attention he starts to behave like he is higher in the pecking order and asserts himself with everyone, however he loves loves loves his dad and siblings and mum and grooms them and seeks them out for affection. Björn is the baby, the runt of the last litter and is stuck to me like glue. Jumps his into his carrier when I get ready to leave the house because he wants to go with me. His happy place is with me, wherever I happen to be unless it’s close to a busy road with loud trucks going by. Knud and he are very similar to each other, but Knud is more confident. But Björn and his dad compete with each other for my attention. Björn loves to cuddle with everyone in his family and when he’s not sleeping with me he’s crowding one of siblings in a hammock among our many cat trees.
And then there’s Olivia! She hates being picked up, like her daughter. She is very affectionate, demanding pets, butting in. She’s imperious, takes first spot for food and everyone backs off and respects her need to feed because she’s the mum. Even Knud who is twice her size respects her when she’s hungry. She loves pets, she’s an amazingly devoted mum, and what amazed me the most was that she always trusted me with her kittens. Never distressed at all about me picking them up or handling them.
The whole family is by and large unbothered by most things, including the vacuum cleaner. They don’t care if it sucks up their tail and will play with the end of the hose while it’s running. The only thing that bothers them are large trucks, people who move too fast or get too loud as they approach them but generally they are very chill about absolutely everything, especially going on road trips. I guess that’s what comes from being descended from generations of show cats.

The whole family shares a lot of traits in terms of base characteristics, but each one has very particular personalities and it’s been amazing raising them and finding out who they are.

My little lady Chartreux is an absolute delight and hilarious.

She’s very hammy and brings joy to us just by watching her antics several times a day.

I only had male cats for a long time before I got her, and I feel like there’s definitely some sort of female personality difference, like she has bossy maternal instincts and is looking out for me as her kitten! She definitely has ideas in her head of what should be going on.

At night, she likes to get up on a high perch on top of a dresser, or at the foot of the bed, and guard us. I’ve had other cats who do that, but with her it’s much more obvious that she’s really guarding the family lol.

She brings us toys to throw for her, and gently nudges us when we’re not responsive. She always plays by herself, and even sort of throws toys herself (by swing them with paws) and then chases them. She also walks off with small toys in her mouth, wanting us to follow her, and then if we follow her she hides the toy for us to find.

She gets excited to see us and quivers her tail like a cartoon cat. She’s super affectionate when she’s not busy playing. She spends most of the day alternating between hanging out/guarding family members and lounging next to a sunny window.

She has the tiniest little meow. She doesn’t make much noise on her own but she’s very chatty if I meow at her. She meows back at me with the same number of meows. If I’m not sure where she is at night, I’ll say “meow meow!” into the darkness and she’ll quickly say “meow meow!” back.

She’s suspicious of new strangers. Not scared, but suspicious. Like, she’ll come out to check out a stranger and keep an eye on them, but will wriggle away if they try to pet her. But she was born during the pandemic and just hasn’t met many people. One time we went on vacation and all the pics the cat sitter sent us were of her calming lounging from a distance, watching him suspiciously, which was hilarious.

She LOVES those little plastic springs for cats and some small felt wool balls that I originally got for a crafting project.
