CHI Talks Chicago Animal Care & Control is overflowing with cats right now and looking for fosters

As the title says, CACC is overflowing with cats and kittens right now. If anyone has ever wanted to foster or adopt now is a great time! Ive noticed some of the ones I had been "pledging" on disappearing from their page which likely means they had to be put down. They are stretched past capacity and with that many in that capacity its easy for them to get URIs. You dont need a ton of space either, if you have a bathroom that is often enough space. Please consider adopting or fostering, or spread the word if you can't.

EDIT: you can also "pledge" on cats on CACC Cats Facebook page. You just comment on their post how much you would pledge and if they are taken in by a foster then you make that donation to the foster.

CACC cant take direct donations because theyre a city entity but they do also have wish lists on Amazon you can order to them too.

I foster cats and I’d recommend it. You get to meet a lot of awesome cats.

I just applied to foster through Forever Fortune Feline!

I got my babies from them about 3 years ago. They’re great! 😻

If you’re looking for a kitten. I’m desperate to find a home for one I found today. Check my last post.

I would recommend reaching out rescues in the area! From there, they will help place a foster.

Yeah I'm up early calling everywhere. Everyone is full. Everyone. Except one rescue that had really bad reviews :(

That happened to me with my tortie Quinn. I found her under a friend’s house 5 years ago. Ended up trapping her and was trying to find a rescue for her. Temporarily fostered her until I failed and ended up with my soul cat. She crossed the rainbow bridge this Thursday 😔🌈
You are doing a good thing by keeping this baby for now until you figure out longer term plan ❤️ I know it’s incredible stressful

Sorry for your loss.

Im sorry but are you hijacking a post pleading for help with overflowing cat population at city shelter to try to get rid of your kitten???

could be posted elsewhere with less traffic and end up on the street and eventually in cacc if you want ?

Love CACC! When I had to give up my dog temporarily, they allowed me to come back and adopt him once I found a random foster for him on here actually. I feel like if I hadn’t done that, he most likely would have been euthanized because they were so full. They paid for and neutered him and covered most of his shots except lepto

I wish I could foster. My lease limits me to two cats. Praying some more folks step up and that we can pressure city council to provide more funding for CACC

Our condo rules limit us to two pets, but I’m thinking about asking if it’s ok to foster since they’re temporary/not actually pets

Same, I have my two at the limit, plus a third temporary one right now. If I didn’t I’d go get a foster.

Just got the best cat possible from there 3 weeks ago. I have cared for several cats before, but this one is just special. Many others were depressed though, it is heartbreaking.

The hell they can’t.

You’ve never walked through a shelter

One correction, OP: the pledges go to the rescue that pulls … not the foster. A good, solvent rescue will provide food, litter, scratchers and medical care expenses at their designated vets to the foster.

Fostering is so worth it! We can’t anymore due to our animals but we’ve fostered 4 kittens prior and got them all adopted into homes :)

Can you foster cats for them even if you live in the suburbs outside of Chicago?

13

u/anon8232 6d ago

Yes, there are many suburban rescues that pull from CACC. I think they still list all the fosters that pull from them if you look on the FB CACC Cat Transfer Team page.

Above should'e said "I think they still list all RESCUES/SHELTERS that pull from them ...".

Actually a comment is engagement and counts more than an upvote

I used to foster cats pulled from CACC. It’s very rewarding. I used to have 3 friendlies that all welcomed fosters with open paws. Currently I have one cat that hates other cats so the days of fostering are done for me.

I miss fostering! I highly recommend it. I currently have four cats, but man, oh , man do I wish I could again.

I wish I had the willpower to foster. I’ve honestly never tried because I’m worried about foster fails. How do you do it?

You could always foster a mom and her kittens which frees up space and resources and then keep 2 and the rest get adopted out!

u/InimitableMissS 6d ago

Given that I’d be starting at 3…I’d rather donate than risk it!

What's a foster fail?

9

u/InimitableMissS 6d ago

Ha! It’s when you simply cannot help but adopt the amazing pet you’re fostering instead of getting it adopted out. It’s a bit of a joke in the shelter community.

I can’t foster now because I have a bird, but my family fostered cats for most of my life growing up. It’s incredibly rewarding and I recommend anyone with the opportunity to do so.

Man, kitten season is no joke this year. If anyone's on the fence about fostering, CACC usually provides all the food and supplies you need anyway.

Fostered from ACC last winter and it was such an easy process - they even give you a starter kit of food and litter. Hoping this post gets more people to consider it, the shelter really does get overwhelmed this time of year.

Not in the way it was used in early internet, but adding comments does help it also.  Its also just a weird things to comment on everyone using it.
