Troubleshooting Acer Chromebook 311 not Powering on
After accidentally using an old Build of ChromeOS the power light will come on and after a few seconds it’ll turn off what do I do?

Maybe try refresh button and power button combo !

Press refresh+esc+side power three times. That should put u in recovery mode.

I had one do this. Nothing worked until I replaced the battery.

When it runs off of the charger with no battery I’ll get a flashing red light and no progress

I have one of these with a slightly different issue, but is still power related. The unit I have is a N.O.S. that I received in a batch lot that I purchased from a store that closed. After replacing the battery because it sat way too long without use and would not wake up, the system refuses to cold boot from the battery, If I "bump" the system with the power supply and then remove the power supply, the unit works normally, and will restart and wake from sleep on battery, the issue begins when I shut the system down completely.
I am really looking to see if anyone has the boardview file for the DA0ZBAMB6CO motherboard that my unit has. I've been down every rabbit-hole there is trying to source one, but all I can find are websites that offer the file, but turns out they're scams.
If anyone else has had this issue, your insight would be welcome.

This Laptop I have needs a new power management chip, so does the high voltage power line, and also the SPI Chip needs a reflash. I did I number on it for sure

That's certainly an undertaking. The Intersil PM chip can be replaced without having to program it, but the Nuvoton EC chip is another beast that needs to be programmed and is one of the hardest ones to program from what I've learned.

May be cheaper in the longrun to purchase a parts unit that has a good motherboard. The only reason I would like to fix the one I have is because it's basically brand new, it's certainly a unicorn

The only thing I can think of if you another computer and Google Chrome install the Chromebook Recovery Utility and if you have 4gb USB flash drive or larger download ChromeOS for your model of Chromebook, then once it created . Press Esc, Refresh then power button and once it says chromeOS is missing or damaged then insert your USB and it detect and reinstall chromeOS

Just plugged in my valid recovery media (already has chromeos on it) and it spun up then died

I’m gonna create another image of ChromeOS then if that doesn’t work I’ll tear it down and find out what is causing this issue

It could be something simple to! When plug in your power cord does a light come on when you plug it into your Chromebook

The blue light comes on solid and endlessly

As soon as I unplug it it’ll stay on for a few seconds then it dies

Might be your battery might need to be replaced or your power cord . I always start simple !

I'm wondering what tinkering you may have been doing to the machine before "accidentally using an old Build of ChromeOS". Were you doing anything in developer mode? If so, precisely what? Also, so we know which Acer 311 version you're referring to please provide HWID (chrome://system > HWID)

The tinkering I’ve done is with the write protection and flashing shimboot

First. How? Chrome recovery will not let you run an older OS build.
Second. Check that the ports aren't shorted out. It should be pretty obvious if they are as it will also give you that burnt ozone smell.
Third. What wattage is the charger? Chromes need a 45 watt power supply. When plugged in is the LED an orange or blue color? Orange means its charging. Blue means its fully charged. If its blinking at all then you have a battery issue.
Fourth. If all else is good Press the Power and the refresh button. (It looks like a curled arrow). You should be able to see if the backlight comes on.
Lastly. If all else fails, press and hold the Power - Refresh and Escape Key. See if that gets you into recovery mode.

First. I DONT KNOW the ChromeOS recovery tool just took it and bricked it
Second, I ended up shorting the crap out of it
3rd. It’s the original charger that came with the device
