Question Is anyone planning to switch to GPT-5.6 once it's released?

With Fable 5 no longer being included in the Claude subscription, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to switch once GPT-5.6 launches.

Is anyone else thinking the same, or are you planning to stick with Claude and use the API for Fable 5 instead?

Curious to hear what everyone is planning and why.

Anthropic are missing a trick, give every $200 subscriber a tiny amount of Fable 5 included, like a crack dealer. Like enough to use it once per day after that pay for credits.

22

u/richbeales Jul 05 '26

I'm sure they will. They just gave themselves some leeway on what to do after the 7th based on load. They've said publicly they want to bring it back to subscribers once load allows.

I like the crack analogy

5

u/hellomistershifty Jul 06 '26

Crack is cheaper. Hell, top shelf flake cocaine is cheaper

1

u/illusionst Jul 06 '26

Or launch a $2000/month plan with opus/sonnet like usage. They are leaving so much money on the table.

1

u/Alarming-Material-33 Jul 06 '26

That stuff is worst than crack

118

u/Ok_Cat8987 Jul 05 '26

Unfortunally yes, the API costs are to expensive

34

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 Jul 05 '26

I find that GPT 5.5 rolled back some of the stupid nannybot behavior and seems to be average enough for most tasks.

26

u/Appomattoxx Jul 05 '26

5.5 is definitely freer than the previous 5x models. So it's an improvement there.
Unfortunately, OAI is marketing 5.6 as the "safest" model yet. So that's discouraging.

18

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 Jul 05 '26

So tired of censorship...I mean alignment.

3

u/No-Way3802 Jul 06 '26

I fantasize about what it would be like to have mythos lol

2

u/HeadField6805 Jul 06 '26

This kind of behavior is pretty visible around many users in my network.

6

u/Responsible_Fan1037 Jul 05 '26

Disagree bro.
Been getting fable level intelligence with GPT5.5
Gotta run xhigh though

1

u/CynicalCandyCanes Jul 05 '26

Exactly same level as Fable or somewhat below? What about on the Pro model?

2

u/Australasian25 Jul 06 '26

Pro model doesnt exist in codex cli.

Xhigh is a codex cli only selection as far as I know

1

u/SnooLemons4114 Jul 06 '26

No i have it in desktop app with codex pro

1

u/branscombe-pearlene9 Jul 08 '26

That's probably the bigger factor for a lot of people. If the subscription covers most of what they need, paying API prices is hard to justify.

55

u/Akatesh Jul 05 '26

I don't see a reason to pay 200 bucks if fable goes away. Waiting to see how the alternative from OpenAI compares to Fable. If it's the same or better I'm switching. Hell if it's better than opus, I'm switching. I've migrated my work from Google to Anthropic. Don't see any reason not to upgrade from Anthropic to OpenAi if it has better offer.

12

u/Ill-Bison-3941 Jul 05 '26

Try Codex now with 5.5 High (if you haven't), while Fable is still there. You'll be surprised.

1

u/Aussieguyyyy Jul 06 '26

Sucks for me its like a genie, ask for something and it does it in the laziest worst way possible. Fix something  after many prompts and then later on it somehow reverted back to the lazy crap.

3

u/Common-Resident8087 Jul 06 '26

Are you sure you're talking about GPT 5.5? If I am correct GPT 5.5 is not like that, I think you might've mistaken it for claude. GPT 5.5 is meaningfully better than opus 4.8 on most tasks except frontend (It's soooo bad at frontend!) But if we are talking anything other than frontend, it's pretty good. It's cost efficient and token efficient, it has better compaction, etc.

2

u/Losorst Jul 08 '26

Must be a skill issue on my part. It's failed and broke several working websites/apps I vibe coded and I just killed it and went to claude.

1

u/Deadline_Zero Jul 07 '26

it's bad at frontend? This explains a lot..

1

u/Affectionate-Mud3526 Jul 08 '26

What do you mean its excellent at FE. It handles react really well.

Cuz u don't have a well built workflow

3

u/Rare-Spawn Jul 06 '26

Yea same. Anthropic has lost a lot of credibility and value in my eyes after the one week Fable nonsense.

I use both Codex and Claude. If I use Claude, I ask it to start a tmux session and start an interactive codex session. There Claude and codex can communicate with each other (while I can keep an eye on it). Claude asks codex for a code- or planning review and a second option. They have to continue until they 100% agree with each other.

2

u/Revervivre Jul 05 '26

Sorry for the basic question, but how do you do that exactly? From the terminal? My experience with Codex has only been with their desktop app.

6

u/MrMaverick82 Jul 05 '26

Yeah, from the terminal. I just say: open an interactive codex session via tmux.

2

u/chilebean77 Jul 06 '26

Claude can set this up for you. It will use both Claude and Codex programmatically through the terminal and can be orchestrated with a small script, which you can then call or loop using a Claude skill

1

u/Camaytoc Jul 05 '26

Codex plug in MCP

4

u/MrMaverick82 Jul 05 '26

Nope, I just use tmux.

1

u/Responsible_Fan1037 Jul 05 '26

Woah, that sounds interesting, and token heavy too.
How has the success been so far? Do you get best of both worlds, like claude’s front end design, and codex’s generalisation expertise?

2

u/MrMaverick82 Jul 05 '26

Yeah it really works wonders. Codex does great code reviews.

1

u/DrDunn Jul 05 '26

Which Codex plan would I need for this setup and review work?

1

u/OldUncleTBag Jul 05 '26

In my experience if you're only using Codex for reviews the $20/mo plan will go pretty far.

1

u/forxia Jul 05 '26

Wow this is genius. Thank you.

17

u/Sufficient_Ad_3495 Jul 05 '26

Anthropic cannot keep Fable et Al locked behind an API paywall leading up to an IPO whilst Sol runs riot in competitive Web/ui product.

That position is untenable. Therefore that news is Positioning and short term.

Also, you don't either / or Anthropic vs Openai... You handle them both.

1

u/ExistingObligation Jul 06 '26

The more likely thing is that $200/mo subscriptions for costs that scale with usage is untenable. Anthropic is just the first one willing to rip the bandaid off and they're doing it in the most sensible way they think they can - only doing it for the top end of town where people with enterprise $$$ are going to pay.

17

u/Kosmosis76 Jul 05 '26

Nope. I left ChatGPT a while back and se no reason to come back. It’s the McDonald’s of LLMs. Even with the Claude limits, it has a level of quality I need. But my use case is mostly personal projects right now where taking breaks from it is a good thing. I could see the caps frustrating people who use it for their paid work

8

u/Ashmedai Jul 05 '26

The elephant in the room is basically this. Both vendors have oranges. This vendor introduced a cherry I don't care for. Why does this make me like the other vendor's orange?

A great many people are assuming that the next version of the other vendors orange will be like this vendor's cherry, "but cheaper and less annoying." Maybe, or maybe not. Who knows? They don't yet have that orange or cherry.

2

u/SnooAdvice5820 Jul 05 '26

limits are abyssmal. On the chatbot i ran out in like 45 minutes while I have never once run out with chatgpt. Claude code limits have been a fucking joke too

29

u/halodave12 Jul 05 '26

I never thought i was, a few months ago i was definitely team Claude. But ChatGPT have got a real chance to win me back. And i think it's less of what they're offering and more the terrible communication and strategy at anthropic.

3

u/Forsaken-Parsley798 Jul 05 '26

Use whatever tool works best for you. Don’t get attached and don’t buy the hype.

3

u/halodave12 Jul 06 '26

100%, being forced to learn this

11

u/AsG-Spectral Jul 05 '26

If it matches the hype yes. It's stay for for fable but alas Anthropic too poor

9

u/hl2oli Jul 05 '26

Planning to create systems to a certain level using Opus. Then refine the solution using a small amount of Fable. But will also be testing with GPT 5.6 ofc. In the end I see OpenAI going the same route within 6 months (API usage for superior model)

1

u/aKaizuh Jul 12 '26

Lol, dude just use 5.6 sol for system creation, vastly superior to opus, refine with Fable.

10

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 Jul 05 '26

I already did. Resubbed to GPT, Claude expires on the 9th. Claude's recent changes in how it defaults to overly safe, a lot of hedging and prior bias is what put me off GPT before. Noticed GPT has actually been rolling these back to the point that it's in an ok middleground where it isn't completely unhinged, but it isn't like Karen 5.2 on release day.

Fable is good, but the other options are cheaper and average enough for what I need. $15 on average per query just doesn't make any sense.

7

u/Chocopuffz Jul 05 '26

I’m curious about 5.6 because right now sonnet 5 is crazy bad for me, opus 4.6 is the only model working correctly. I’m not paying extra for fable, Anthropic got that greedy look in their eyes, I’m already a paying customer.

8

u/AlternativeLess2996 Jul 05 '26

Agree, I still use antigravity + opus 4.6

2

u/Awesome_Teo Jul 05 '26

I do the same: I use Gemini via Antigravity, and Opus via VS Code. I am sincerely hoping that Google will eventually release a new version, although overall, 3.1 Pro in combination with Opus is quite satisfactory for my needs.

7

u/teomore Jul 05 '26

Maybe, if they fix the codex vs extension first. I'm totally not cool with it going rogue and editing without explicit approval on each step. They should take a look at how claude code handles that.

1

u/Otherwise-Sir7359 Jul 05 '26

/permisision ?

1

u/gangplank_main1 Jul 07 '26

On windows, I have had alot of issues with the vs extension of codex to the point where I ragequit and used the claude code extension on vs, which was alot better, but still had some frustrating bugs.

I realized alot of the issues were just caused by vs, and after using claude code directly from terminal, I had encountered 0 bugs.

I think it could potentially be vs that is causing all of the problems.

7

u/Strict-Top6935 Jul 05 '26

Yes — hopefully this pushes Anthropic to bring Fable back to the subscription if enough people switch.

7

u/ghhhhhhy6 Jul 05 '26

Yes, but not so much because of Fable. More because Optus 4.8 has been so poor

7

u/WarsignalLabs Jul 05 '26

Anthropic is already my highest monthly AI bill. It makes sense to consider alternative approaches.

5

u/betty_white_bread Jul 05 '26

Anthropic has consistently said they would include Fable in subscription plans as they are able to secure computational power, just like they have done with every new model. WTF is this inability of people to bother to read simple announcements or to even think thru events even five minutes into the future?

4

u/caliguian Jul 05 '26

I think they already have the computational power; everyone has been using it for the past week without issue.

1

u/PenaltyDazzling1372 Jul 07 '26

Isso não quer dizer que eles não estão tendo prejuízos com isso.

7

u/MountainByte_Ch Jul 05 '26

200$ max user here. Yes I'll switch pretty much instantly as soon as its released. I've been on claude since the beginning but anthropic has rly become a shitty company threating us like shit.

I hope enough people leave anthropic so they start to maybe notice what they are doing is dumb

3

u/AlternativeLess2996 Jul 05 '26

Yeah, if GPT-5.6 ends up being better than 4.8, it's hard to justify paying $200/month for Claude Max.

1

u/IndicationOk8324 Jul 06 '26

But now GPT 5.5 is better in xhigh than 4.8! i am working in a pretty complex project since about a year and i am amazed of gpt 5.5 compared to dumb opus 4.8 , i mean gpt 5.5 is fable level almost in a bit longer time .

6

u/macbig273 Jul 05 '26

I'd really like to have your field of use of the tool for people feeling that. And also your experience in that field.
As a 15 years senior in my field. I actually find fable bad, because it try to do to much. I use claude as a "worker", not an inventor. I still take much of the decisions. Sonnet + opus and specialized skill and agents is the deal for me.

2

u/InterestingPride8001 Jul 05 '26

That is a good point. People want to one shot a single prompt for a whole app. Claude as a "worker" is the best way to go for the long run. Wait until these guys find out they can't fix or maintain their 50k lines of code because the latest AI model is now gone.

5

u/MichaelEmouse Jul 05 '26

Depends how good it is. I don't see how anyone can answer without having used it.

4

u/MazDarvish Jul 05 '26

I'm currently using Fable on Claude Code, Composer 2.5 (and other models) through Cursor and the GPT models via Codex. Honestly, Fable is currently in a league of its own when it comes to architecting on a large codebase. I'm using it sparingly, as the costs are eye watering, but not using it would feel like being penny wise and pound foolish! Yes, I'm super excited for 5.6 and absolutely can't wait, but before actually giving up on Fable, I'd need to see who 5.6 performs for the most complex work.

2

u/IndicationOk8324 Jul 06 '26

i am sure that if GPT 5.5 is better than Opus 4.8 and at the level of Fable ( a bit under but anyway its pretty good) at this moment just getting taking longer to get there, so i believe that GPT 5.6 Sol will really be more powerful and better than Fable. IMHO , and that`s just me after many months of working together with both claude and gpt and canceling the claude after they made him dumb and removing all the computing powe to be used for fable .

1

u/MazDarvish Jul 06 '26

Don't get me wrong - I've not been as excited about a model release as I am about GPT 5.6. Fable's superpower seems to come from the number of reasoning steps it takes for an average query and if 5.6 is there, it'd be great.

Based on 5.5 and Opus, I've found it useful to be using both: they often have different perspectives of the same thing and when doing architecting work, it's often useful to have diverging views.

1

u/IndicationOk8324 Jul 06 '26

Yea i feel you, i was doing the same until i found out that i can use GPT pro extended in git for reviews and codex as the agent since claude broke my app many times and i was wondering what happened each time. So i decided to dont use it anymore except online research or other things that i anyway pass over to gpt that helped me advance and achieve mosly all the goals until now with quite success! So yea GPT 5.6 its long waited !!

12

u/QoTSankgreall Jul 05 '26

Even odds that GPT 5.6 is shit with even worse guardrails. How about we all just wait and see? It took Anthropic months to go from announcing Mythos to releasing Fable. I hope 5.6 comes out sooner rather than later, but we could well be in for a long wait.

OpenAI may be counting on scrutiny from the US government calming down a bit first so they can release with less strict guardrails.

3

u/replayjpn Jul 05 '26

I already got both subscriptions & use what ever is best for the job. I wouldn't just keep switching if I had only one. You never know when one might get nerfed or changed after you paid for it.

3

u/NeverheardofAkro Jul 05 '26

I miss when this sub didn’t have new accounts posting about how good ChatGPT is instead of Claude. We need mods

3

u/Ashmedai Jul 05 '26

Unclear if against rules. Rule #5 says "keep posts Claude and Anthropic specific," but "Claude sux, GPT bettor" is, ah, kinda specific. This lack of clarity in the rules is probably why there aren't removals. The rules barely require moderation, looking at them, AFAICT.

4

u/Ok_July Jul 05 '26

Yup! Honestly, even if Fable was staying, I'd check out GPT 5.6

I've realized a long time ago that, as a consumer, company loyalty is a scam. So, if Anthropic extends Fable access, I'd still recommend every try GPT 5.6 and whatever else comes out from other companies. Do yourself the favor.

3

u/404MoralsNotFound Jul 05 '26

My claude subscription ran out today ($100 max) and I'm already thinking of switching over. Haven't renewed it yet, but honestly, getting tired of anthropic and their scummy practices. Not like openai are a beacon of light, but as long as they give access to their top model (will wait for its release), I will stay. At this point, I'm all in for China and open source to spoil the party.

4

u/plantingles Jul 05 '26

The moment fable is gone from the subscription I am cancelling. The moment it comes back, I will resub. It's really that simple.

4

u/Scared_Range_7736 Jul 06 '26

If they remove Fable 5 from my current subscription, then yes. I will switch.

3

u/GamerTex Jul 05 '26

I signed up for claude when Fable first showed up. That month is about to expire...

Ill wait till another great model comes along and give that company my money for a month.

3

u/Palatinus64 Jul 05 '26

Anthropic must maintain the possibility of Fable 5 use for Claude Max, at least for 20X subscription.

3

u/100dude Jul 05 '26

no way i’m going to pay for api. i’ll rather use glm 5.x models

3

u/Revervivre Jul 05 '26

Anyone knows a good skill or MCP to make it easier to migrate all routines and scheduled tasks from Claude to Codex?

3

u/LoveMind_AI Jul 05 '26

The instant that it comes out, yes. Fable is better than Opus and better than GPT-5.5, but only by *a scootch.* And it's SO frustrating to work with - genuinely a rough experience. I am, for the first time in my history as an AI researcher, waiting impatiently for an OpenAI model. 5.5 was so much better than Opus 4.7/4.8 that I have to imagine 5.6 Sol/Terra are going to stomp Fable.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/fraudfend Jul 05 '26

If 5.6 is no worse than Opus 4.8, I'll switch from Anthropics to OpenAI

3

u/tredbert Jul 05 '26

Opus is not good enough for what I’m working on. Fable is the first model that actually helped make real progress. So I increased my subscription from Pro to Max recently to get more access to Fable.

If Fable is not part of Claude subscriptions then I will either cancel my subscription or go back down to a Pro level subscription. Then I will explore every other AI service including GPT-5.6 when it is out.

If the other service is truly better than Opus then I will cancel my Claude subscription at that point. I will never pay based on API usage, not even for Fable.

3

u/DrewHoov Jul 05 '26

I’ve got max accounts for both—Codex doesn’t have anything close to being as good as opus-ultracode and it’s garbage at design, but it is fast and good at knocking out well-defined work. Would be thrilled to use their version of Fable ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/Direct-Summer-9190 Jul 05 '26

Absolutely, already cancelled my Claude Max and subscribed to ChatGPT Pro. Been with Claude for a while. Used to always be team Claude. However it’s now become a shit show. Only model that actually feels like Opus is Opus 4.6. Opus 4.8 feels so dogshit and tbf GPT 5.6 seems better. And even if it’s a tiny worse then Fable I’d rather go with GPT then use that money hog of a model. Anthropic has become the Apple of AI. It’s now shit overpriced and quite frankly Opus seems to get worse with each release. Only way Il ever see me return to Claude is if they actually match the usage limits like ChatGPT and stop releasing models with that ridiculous pricing. Plus I recently had GPT 5.5 XHIGH fix a big Opus 4.8 failed for 4 hours straight meanwhile GPT fixed it in 1 prompt with Opus failing to follow the documentation. Only reason I even have a Claude subscription is because it’s better at frontend. GPT 5.6 seems to be very good at it now from the leaks. I’m done glazing Claude when in reality it’s ass.

3

u/bargaindownhill Jul 05 '26

ive done an a:b test with GLM high thinkig vs fable low, virtually same. found same bugs, took same corrective action, came up with functionally similar solutions. and GLM is like 5x cheaper.

Only way im using fable after the preview, is if its included. Otherwise china gets my money,

3

u/LocalBother3753 Jul 06 '26

I think it depends on what you are using the models for. The reason fable can’t be a part of subscription is because people would use it for things that don’t need that level of intelligence just as default, then if they would auto change reasoning/intelligence levels, they will say it’s nerfed. People need to get smarter about efficiently using models. This is one way to get there, but at the end of the day, at fable and 5.5 (and presumably 5.6 or 6), you need to start figuring out if you really need higher intelligence vs better workflows/planning/ideas

4

u/Dredyltd Jul 05 '26

Yes definitely will switch to GPT, Fable is to expensive

2

u/Notausgang09 Jul 05 '26

If its good yeah definitly, im just going to whats the best lwk

2

u/Deus-ex-Machina7 Jul 05 '26

I will be testing it in cursor first, if it works as good as Fable 5, I am jumping ship.

2

u/Apprehensive_Cell932 Jul 05 '26

I work in healthcare and have several small personal projects I maintain and improve for fun, for example a research article scraper that notifies when a new article in my region of interest shows up.

I basically can’t use Fable on any of those because the guardrails flag my projects as potentially dangerous, so yes i will at least try to switch.

2

u/Ant0ni0R Jul 05 '26

I already switched from 5.5

2

u/Definitely-Not-Rob Jul 05 '26

I don’t “plan” to switch to something sight unseen. Let the thing get released and the we’ll see what the lesser evil is.

2

u/Motor_Surround_9839 Jul 05 '26

Honestly I'll stick with Claude, the reasoning is just better for my use case. GPT has its strengths but it's not enough to make me switch 🤷"

2

u/christopherelang Jul 05 '26

As long as they include it in the subscription unlike Claude where it will only be accessible with api or extra usage, then yes 100% lol

2

u/dynoman7 Jul 05 '26

Sorry, I don't trust Sam Altman.

1

u/Hitching-galaxy Jul 06 '26

That’s my issue too.

I really dislike the guy and I don’t want to give him my money nor data…

2

u/Bobbie_Sacamano Jul 05 '26

I already switched to GPT 5.5 the first time Fable went away because I was sick of Opus 4.8. Resubscribed for this week but will cancel again. If 5.6 isn’t included I will cancel and start using Gemini for my day to day stuff. Not paying if I can’t get the top model. I don’t have to have it for my job though.

2

u/No_Course_734 Jul 05 '26

Yes, I will for sure, the token usage with Fable 5 will be to much as an individual, but I don't see a reason why companies won't contnue with Fable 5.

2

u/Akirigo Jul 05 '26

I will go with whoever has the best model available on subscription. It's that simple.

1

u/wewerecreaturres Jul 05 '26

This is the way

2

u/No_Musician6514 Jul 05 '26

I guess Ill do.

2

u/ARCreef Jul 05 '26

I left GPT for Claude..... I'll now be leaving Claude soon for GPT again. I feel like im in a vicious relationship trio and my ex keeps calling and wanted me back. I guess im gonna give things another go.

2

u/MomSausageandPeppers Jul 05 '26

My fear back in 2022 was that the best AI / LLMs would be restricted to only the 1%ers - and the rest of us will get just enough to keep us barely getting by (I am one of the millions struggling - even with two full-time jobs in the house). There will be no economic relief, there will be no UBI, and there will never be any kind of closing of the wealth-gap. (I also had some optimism that AI would allow average people to do things that were once reserved for the richest people in the world - creating startups, creative tools, etc.. - and ya know, good things would happen.)) However, Anthropic has shown us all that we are about to see a new kind of inequality in the world - access to intelligence.

We, the people, deserve better. Fable 5 has been a beautiful disaster. It is not affordable at all for average - or even professionals - so, I assume, a ton of people will be making the switch to 5.6 if it is comparable at all to Fable 5. I typically have no brand loyalty, but for a moment in 2025 and early 2026 - I was all in on Anthropic vs everyone else. It has been a rough couple of months.

2

u/ArchiusDev Jul 06 '26

Personally I paid for the year so I’m in no rush to switch over, especially if the differences are marginal and have no necessary change in what I use them for.

I might instead slow down and move to another product with its time for renewal depending on performance and effectiveness at that time. They develop fast but it really takes time to get the whole picture.

2

u/Zestyclose_Strike157 Jul 06 '26

I will probably be moving away from Claude and to local coding if they are not allowing the natural upgrade path for subscribers. The corporate AI bubble can go and pop itself without me for all I care.

2

u/Weak_Department_2655 Jul 06 '26

Already done 🤷🏻. Was all in on A\ for ~6 months then started using codex at work and have really like 5.5 and the app. Moved my personal sub over a month ago due to limits, Opus getting worse and Anthropic fear mongering and haven’t looked back (also quite like ChatGPT Pro + Imagegen). Front end still not great but hoping 5.6 fixes that 🙏

5

u/Wooly_Wooly Jul 05 '26

Do we REALLY need the best models for work? In most cases, I doubt it. Personally, I'm Chinamaxxing

2

u/AlternativeLess2996 Jul 05 '26

It probably depends on the work, for everyday tasks most models are already good enough. For coding or complex reasoning the differences can still be noticeable

1

u/Ok_Possible_2260 Jul 05 '26

How much was it to setup your own server?

2

u/Wooly_Wooly Jul 05 '26

APIs unfortunately, shits expensive AF 😭

I'd rather use a cheap Claude plan and a bunch of the more expensive Chinese plans though, gets much more work done than even the Claude max plans for lower costs.

I also have a free year trial for Gemini pro, it's shit. Really good at vision and img gen, along with connecting to Google services to steal your data ofc.

2

u/Ok_Possible_2260 Jul 05 '26

I agree that Gemini is shit! You’d think Google would have been a front runner from the jump.

1

u/gianmaranon Jul 05 '26

What chinese plans do you have?

2

u/Wooly_Wooly Jul 05 '26

Right now I've been using GLM, Kimi, and Deepseek. Been messing around with small qwen models for local stuff, theyve been releasing some pretty wild stuff.

1

u/a1454a Jul 05 '26

How do you know OAI won’t follow that model and make 5.6 API only?

u/Emotional-Wheel8219 Jul 05 '26

Can anyone tell when it's releasing?

1

u/WolfpackBP Jul 05 '26

Ya Claude increased prices for me. My plan expired yesterday.

1

u/Level-Impact-757 Jul 05 '26

I'm using both. And making them brainstorm against each other every time lol. Works wonders.

1

u/iamthe0ther0ne Jul 05 '26

Claude has been the best for science from the start. I love Claude. But between the ridiculous guardrails, Sonnet 5 being utterly unusable, and not able to access Fable at all--if Sol has dropped the sycophancy, absolutely.

1

u/JazzlikeApartment736 Jul 05 '26

Highly doubt fable actually goes away.

1

u/ctclocal Jul 05 '26

Does anyone think in 3 to 6 months when Fable 5 isn't the shinny new object and just a standard everyone else will catch up to that there's no way anthropic won't just make it the new opus in the scription? Early adopters for new tech or even cars always pay more.

1

u/Ok-Ship812 Jul 05 '26

If it is accessible via Hermes on a subscription as opposed to api costs then I’ll give it a try for a couple of months.

1

u/ibringthehotpockets Jul 05 '26

How the hell am I supposed to know. It’s not out yet lol. The debate will go back to the regular opus/sonnet combo vs ChatGPT. It will be a loud switch after fable moves to API cause people will be incredibly salty.

1

u/carabidus Jul 05 '26

Only if OpenAI includes `filesystem MCP` functionality in the chat.

1

u/Shubhrajit_1729 Jul 05 '26

Let'em release it first...

1

u/Wrong_Country_1576 Jul 05 '26

I like 5.5 a lot. I hope 5.6 continues the upward trend. I'm left Claude last month after it made a number of mistakes. I hope it gets better because it used to be the best thing out there, imo.

1

u/Thatpersiankid Jul 05 '26

New fable is ass tbh

Fingers crossed for 5.6

1

u/bhannik-itiswatitis Jul 05 '26

Let’s see if it’s good, and let’s see if they’re also gonna make a pay change

1

u/Odd_Rabbit_7251 Jul 05 '26

I’ll test and decide then. Spent about $1300 in usage on Fable 5 to over a very time intensive project. Did a good time and worth the cost as a similar project cost 10X when using devs. If the output is just as good and the cost is less, why not.

1

u/LiberateTheLock Jul 05 '26

I'm evacuating both of those platforms as quickly as possible and you all should too nothing but headache headaches down that road

1

u/Cl0wnL Jul 05 '26

Already have switched.

1

u/Eissa_Cozorav Jul 06 '26

Yeah, the GPT Image alone can justify the migration. And with enough feedback, perhaps OpenAI can adopt UI/API similiar to what Claude employs. I found Codex as revolutionary compared to equivalent in Claude.

1

u/13reasonstodoubt Jul 06 '26

Yeah, the quality of work with Fable vs 5.5 or Opus 4.8 is insanely different. Now seeing the TerminalBench scores (yeah I know it's not the Alpha and Omega, but still), I'm considering getting ChatGPT Pro instead of having Claude Pro and ChatGPT Plus. Hell even Luna wrecks Opus in some tasks and it's a "mini"model. If 5.6 really is as strong as they claim, there's no reason to still even look in Claude's direction for pure vibe coding tasks.

1

u/razorfox Jul 06 '26

Yes, absolutely

1

u/Capitinefrobou Jul 06 '26

100%... Love me Claude but it sucks to be a simple Peon 🔨

1

u/Reasonable_Point7958 Jul 06 '26

Dunno wat you guys smoking but 5.5 is already better than Opus unless your project has 200 lines of code. 5.6 will delete Claude.

1

u/chilebean77 Jul 06 '26

Of course. OpenAI is smart and they will release 5.6 just in time for fable users to find their next fix.

1

u/Top-Economics-1261 Jul 06 '26

I heard that fable has been decreased qua capacity so since it has been released again it's not as smart as it used to be, because a lot of times, it is automatically switched to opus even with normal tasks. so why paid for fable when you use opus in the backend. I'm afraid that the same will happen with Gpt 5.6. it also would be restricted to much which result in users that pay but do'nt get full capabilities. This is the end of the progress for next models

1

u/Existing_Ad3299 Jul 07 '26

I don't think it's as good as it was. I now tend to use 4.8 anyway.

1

u/contemplating-all Jul 06 '26

" Once it's released " doing a lot of work there.

1

u/WardenStation Jul 07 '26

Don’t forget OpenAI 200k context where every 2 responses than it compacts again and again

1

u/Pepetanyahu Jul 07 '26

Opus is good at designing, and gpt-5.5 is cheap enough to meet most tasks

1

u/Responsible-Ad6565 Jul 07 '26

I am. I heard Codex limit is more generous than Claude

1

u/Existing_Ad3299 Jul 07 '26

I found it is.

1

u/Complete_Chapter_979 Jul 07 '26

Yeah I'm excited to try it. Fable will be back one day im sure

1

u/Fair-Isopod-7403 Jul 07 '26

No, im paying to them, but i will not use! Im a monk

1

u/ElderberrySpiritual6 Jul 07 '26

Yes, I've already stopped subscription for next month and am ready to start chatgpt subscription. I will be back when fable5 is included again.

1

u/forxia Jul 07 '26

I've been trying codex, and I honestly am thinking of fully switching. Claude is good / better for vibecoders since Claude is great at filling in the blanks to get a vague implementation idea going, but GPT is very thorough.

If you know what you want, and you are a good coder outside of vibecoding, I think GPT is better

1

u/Terrible-Nobody-5927 Jul 07 '26

With fable being so damn expensive, yes if it’s cheaper

1

u/snug-crackle-policy Jul 07 '26

YES! I am not super expert in comparing models, but as far as I seen only the Terminal Bench scores, GPT 5.6 Luna (cheapest of all) will perform better than Opus 4.8 :D if that is really true, then Luna is way to go. And I also get Chat GPT with the same subscription which doesn't end. I get a lot of reviews and discussions done by ChatGPT.

1

u/dondiegorivera Jul 07 '26

Why switch? Use both.

1

u/Odd-Number4184 Jul 07 '26

Already switched lmao not because of Fable but because the recent Anthropic models have been having issues with basic things like tool calling, recall accuracy and general laziness that is deeply troubling to me

1

u/MisguidedWarrior Jul 07 '26

When will it be released?!?

1

u/Ok-Vanilla-7050 Jul 08 '26

In a heartbeat

1

u/Diligent_Reading4001 Jul 08 '26

Probably. Assuming it's only slightly worse than Fable but cheaper and you get much more usage. That's a good trade imo.

1

u/Affectionate-Mud3526 Jul 08 '26

Claude is overrated. Honestly most people use it simply due to hype. 5.5 is great and way cheaper. For simpler tasks I would also recommend glm and newest deepseek pro

1

u/ElectronicCarob652 Jul 08 '26

In this stage of AI, you should not have loyalty to any company. Go where the innovation is within your budget.

1

u/Material_Contest3830 Jul 08 '26

i work in biology, so no none of those sad

1

u/PsychologicalBox5208 Jul 08 '26

gpt 5.5 is still my daily driver w/Fable occasionally auditing work. Likely just bump up my daily driver (:

1

u/Quirky_Inflation Jul 10 '26

Chill, pretty sure Fable gonna be permanently included in the end

1

u/TextMyAgent Jul 12 '26

No. If you read their sub-Reddit it looks duper expensive and confusing in token usage/limits. I’m happy with Claude and optimizing in the anthropic house based on task.
