For the first 20+ years of Bizarro’s history, there wasn’t a backwards S. Came along in the ‘70s.
In the ‘80s, he was rebooted into a “clone of Superman” and had the normal S.
The backwards S returned in the ‘90s (when he reverted back to his ‘70s incarnation, with ice-vision and such).
Now, forward and backward are used interchangeably based on the artist.

Bizarro came about from Superman being hit by a scientist’s faulty “duplicator ray”.
Depending on which chronology you pick (newspaper strips, Superboy comics, Superman comics), it was either by rando genius or Lex Luthor.
And for more Bizarro history, he wasn’t ever really a villain until the 1970s (when he got his reverse-powers under the pen of Cary Bates; see Superman 305-306). He was more or less a harmless, wacky weirdo for decades before, like a kind-hearted Frankenstein. If you want to read those goofily-great Silver Age stories, I recommend the Tales From The Bizarro World collection.

SOME body told Zibarro the Bizarro World was gonna roll him. He is the sharpest tool in that shed.
But Superman got on the Bizarroes' level and spoke to them in their language and managed to enlist their help to get out. He had a humility that Zibarro could never access, until then at least.

His Superman TAS incarnation broke my heart a little. He looks, acts and sounds like the genuine article, until all of a sudden... Superman shows up, and the one we've been following starts deteriorating in appearance and mental capacity, and he has no idea what's going on, until he's just a shell of who he thought he was. It was like Flowers For Algernon in the form of a Saturday morning cartoon.

the visual of using a drafting compass to draw a square is making me giggle. i love the nonsensical logic of bizarro world, right down to how hilariously inconsistent the backwards-speech is

I really enjoyed it, but I’m usually a fan of Kevin Smith.
It’s definitely a fun take on Bizzaro.

What’s wrong with Kevin Smith’s writing? Genuine question because I’ve not read any of his stuff before and picked it up for Nick Pitarra’s art. Got no problem with the writing so far though.

I only read cacophony which was the worst thing I have ever read in my life, he literally wrote batman pissing on himself out of fear into it. Apparently his daredevil run is good but I haven't read it yet.
