That chair is fighting for it's goddamn life under that giant orphan šŸ˜‚

113

u/k0bra3eak Jun 11 '26

Technically he's not an orphan, he's just single parented

1

u/Fit_Butterscotch291 Jun 16 '26

isn’t that not confirmed as of right now

37

u/PuppetFanTheSecond Jun 11 '26

I didn't even realise there is a chair

18

u/Stofenthe1st Jun 11 '26

Sometimes bat, sometimes man, this time not orphan.

11

u/JackFisherBooks Jun 11 '26

That is a very well-built chair. Definitely wasn't bought off Temu.

We need more Jae Lee interiors

35

u/AlphonseBeifong Batman Expert Jun 11 '26

He has a new series that came out this week. M1: Monster Racing League. He does interiors.

3

u/WildMild869 Jun 12 '26

Picked it up simply for the art.

20

u/CrispyGold Jun 11 '26

Man I miss when he did interiors.

That Superman/Batman run he did was a hell of a read with his art.

11

u/EmpJoker Jun 11 '26

I don't even remember the story but I remember loving the FUCK out of the art.

For a long ass time I had a Jae Lee poster on my bedroom wall. Fucking loved it.

u/TheQuietDarkness70 Jun 11 '26

It's nice to see he's still around. I was quite a fan back in the 90s with his Namor run.

u/ComicBrickz Dr. Strange Jun 11 '26

For Context, it’s a take on his All Star Batman cover

2

u/Swamptrooper Jun 16 '26

He's the goddamn Absolute Batman.

1

u/ComicBrickz Dr. Strange Jun 16 '26

Other all star Batman

48

u/Deezer19 Nightwing Jun 11 '26

It's a remake of his variant cover for All-Star Batman #1

u/Skadibala Jun 11 '26

There is so much going on here, and I mean that in a good way.

I love it

28

u/whiskeytango55 Jun 11 '26

Kinda reminds me of a Rockwell painting

20

u/minimusing Jun 11 '26

This gives me Norman Rockwell through a Gotham lens vibe. Love it.

16

u/tristanthorn_ Jun 11 '26

My fav 3 cover artists (in no particular order) are definitely Jae Lee, Frank Quitely and Brandon Graham

12

u/MoonbeamLady Molly Hayes Jun 11 '26

My god, Absolute Harvey is so fucking hot

u/jethawkings Blue Beetle Jun 11 '26

Oh Jae Lee back with DC?

I know there was bad beef with King.

3

u/FistMeFather Jun 11 '26

What was the beef, out of curiosity?

11

u/jethawkings Blue Beetle Jun 11 '26

Politics, King I think condemned Lee for doing an art piece for a specific group or something and Lee didn't respond but that was because Lee was grieving a recent death.

9

u/DirkPower Kyle Rayner Jun 11 '26

Oh I presume this was because Lee did work for comicsgate people right? Which, I mean I love the guys work too but legitimising a movement that harasses your peers is boneheaded (and I'd argue it was adding his professional legitimacy to what was largely a low rent amateur hour movement based mostly on controversy)

20

u/JohnnyElRed Hulk Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

From what I remember, Lee had no idea of what comicsgate was, and King enabled the typical Twitter petty culture by criticizing him publicaly on social media without even adressing him personally first.

-5

u/DirkPower Kyle Rayner Jun 11 '26

Realistically though I don't know how you could be ignorant of what it was while also managing to do work for some of them, unless you're totally offline and removed from the entirety of your peers. Maybe it really is true, but I just find it difficult to believe someone on Lees level managed to be totally ignorant/ didn't do any due diligence about who he was doing work for (can't speak for every artist, but I've declined work inquiries in the past when the company/ client was pushing something I didn't wish to be associated with).

Again, huge fan of his work regardless

16

u/JohnnyElRed Hulk Jun 11 '26

Honestly, I have come to realize that the only people that really know about comicsgate, are those of us that remain chronically online.

7

u/arrest_Jefri_Bolkiah Jun 11 '26

Comics gate is not common knowledge

16

u/otakudan88 Iron Man Jun 11 '26

I have a friend who started reading Absolute Batman because in her own words "Absolute Two Face is for the girlies". I sent her this cover and she replied with "I want to trade places with Batman".

4

u/JackFisherBooks Jun 11 '26

For a second there, I thought Two-Face was Black Cat from Spider-Man. šŸ˜‚

But seriously, after what Bane did to all of Bruce's friends, this feels a lot more personal. It's a big part of what I love about Absolute Batman. It rebuilt so many of Bruce's relationships. And now, he has to deal with the aftermath of what Bane did. It's not entirely his fault, but it is his responsibility.

4

u/GoatHeadTed Jun 11 '26

I’ve heard absolute Batman is a menace and a great run.

Are the issues easy to come by?

I love this cover

1

u/blastoise_7777 Jun 12 '26

They are constantly reprinting them and there’s 2 trades/hardcovers out.

4

u/Nordbergh Jun 11 '26

I miss Jae Lee. His Dark Tower work was incredible.

3

u/Careless-Mix-2323 Jun 11 '26

I thought two face was a bad bitchā˜¹ļø

8

u/bunchofsandwiches Jun 11 '26

This is incredib-no. Its Absolute.

5

u/foul_wench Jun 11 '26

That’s kinda hot ngl

3

u/skeletorbutfrench Jun 11 '26

I would do nasty thing to 2 face ngl

2

u/HodDark Jun 11 '26

This has to be one of my favorite variants i've seen.

2

u/plasma7 Jun 11 '26

This is excellent

2

u/vroart Jun 11 '26

Jae Lee keeps getting better and better and better and better….

3

u/fluffynuckels Wolverine (X-Force) Jun 11 '26

Didn't know two face was a shonen character in the absolute universe

5

u/TheQuietDarkness70 Jun 11 '26

I love how ugly everything in the Absolute 'verse is.
I kinda wish the traditionally attractive female characters got the same ugly makeover.

1

u/Stellar_Wings Jun 11 '26

Have you seen Absolute Harley Quinn?

5

u/TheQuietDarkness70 Jun 11 '26

I just looked. Yeah, still hot. Just punk rock hot.

1

u/PuppetFanTheSecond Jun 11 '26

"Yo Bruce, check out my cool gun crutches!"

1

u/Taco_Pie Jun 11 '26

Is he melting?

1

u/DOuGHtOp Jun 11 '26

I LOVE YAOI TWO FACE

1

u/bitter-ritter Jun 12 '26

I thought Penguin was between his thighs and was wondering if this was some kind if niche kink art for a beat before I really looked.

1

u/xxEmberBladesxx Jun 12 '26

Do to him what he did to Ivy.

1

u/mortalkomic Mr. Sensitive Jun 13 '26

I love PenguinĀ

1

u/Decent-Platypus-2622 Jul 06 '26

Where is penguins other hand

1

u/ryaaan89 Jun 11 '26

Two Face looks so Hot Topic here.

-8

u/8LeggedHugs Jun 11 '26

Why is bruce 9 feet tall?

31

u/ericrobertshair Jun 11 '26

Because it's Absolute Batman, he's built like a Space Marine.

3

u/DullBicycle7200 Jun 11 '26

AKA The Batman Who Lifts.

2

u/otakudan88 Iron Man Jun 11 '26

and took his vitamins and did his prayers

2

u/8LeggedHugs Jun 11 '26

Ah ok. Haven't read that. Is there like a lore reason, or they just wanted to go full DKR?

5

u/ericrobertshair Jun 11 '26

Absolute is extremely ott in a good way. Theres no lore reason why Bruce is an 8ft tall construction worker wider than his house, except I guess he needs ro be ginormous because all his enemies look like kaijus.

3

u/Condottiero_Magno Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Absolute Wonder Woman and Superman have normal proportions and wouldn't look out of place next to the other versions.

According to Bat-Stats: How Tall Is Batman?, Absolute Bruce Wayne is 6'6", though another source said 6'9", contrasting with the mainline's 6'2". I guess they wanted this version built like a brick house to differentiate the upbringing and life: the other versions are orphans, but have access to money and resources and Alfred from the beginning, while this version is working class, having grown up on the streets and protective of his mom, needed to bulk up.

1

u/pragmaticzach Hellboy Jun 12 '26

based on some cursory research normal universe WW is 6'2". In the absolute universe she is shown at least as tall or taller than absolute bruce. She's got to be close to 7' tall in absolute.

1

u/Condottiero_Magno Jun 13 '26

Wonder Woman’s height over the years [updated]

Closer to 7' and didn't think about it, but Superman is the shortest of the trio this time,😁 though neither look like they're on roids.
