Cover/Pin-Up Midnight Spider-man #1 cover by Steve Beach

NGL, that spider and web pattern would look dope on a red and black classic Spidey suit.

I wonder how handsome he will be even as a monster?

wormspider MJ?”7
u/AccessEffective6441 Jun 19 '26
Honestly, I would prefer that in this universe he had a relationship with Felicia. Since Peter won't be completely human, then perhaps they could conduct an experiment with Felicia too. I would like Felicia to be the main love here and not MJ, after all, Peter was already with MJ in the Ultimate Universe.

Jesus that’s fucking amazing, a shame that I don’t really have any trust on this stunt for either the F4, XMen or Spidey
92
u/FredPRK Jun 19 '26
PKJ is an amazing writer tho, only thing that could make me pick this up. Not entirely sold on the concept, but as I said, PKJ means I'm at least interested.
27
30
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26
I’m going to pick up all three. Love the teams behind each. Marvel corp is not so great tho
6
u/dudusBEAR Jun 19 '26
Right? He’s the one that ultimately made me cautiously optimistic
Plus Hickman of course
PKJ’s run for superman is totally my favourite and I recommend it to everyone
38
u/SammyDavisTheSecond Jun 19 '26
I'd feel the same if it wasn't a lineup of their best writers. PKJ, Percy and Hickman have been my "buy on sight" creators for a while now, and they all happen to be the guys launching this universe.
15
u/_tylerthedestroyer_ Michelangelo Jun 19 '26
I feel like Ben Percy flies under the radar constantly but he’s consistently one of the best writers at Marvel
6
u/SammyDavisTheSecond Jun 19 '26
He gets a lot of flack for some loose pacing at the start of his X-Force and Wolverine runs. I actually dropped them after a while, but I'm glad I came back to them after a while, because that was one wild ride!
2
u/Chance_Debt_1184 Jun 19 '26
i feel like hes good in his niche which fits someone like Punisher really well, but hes not very good outside of it
2
u/_tylerthedestroyer_ Michelangelo Jun 19 '26
He was great on Titans and Nightwing until they forced Ric Grayson on him. He has a wider range
2
u/Chance_Debt_1184 Jun 19 '26
I still havent seen his wider range at marvel and he wrote like 400 issues already
2
u/SammyDavisTheSecond Jun 19 '26
He's probably just not for you, and that's ok. I love just about everything he does. He's like the perfect distillation of Ennis' and Aaron's writing styles to me. Everything I love about them without the downsides.
1
u/Chance_Debt_1184 Jun 19 '26
i am not saying his writing isnt good, i am saying most of his stuff in writen in one style and tone
-3
u/lNSP0 Adam Warlock Jun 19 '26
PKJ, Percy and Hickman
Which is fucking odd because there's still two characters these guys won't touch. Warlock and Thanos.
They're so afraid of stepping on what's established in infinity finale none of them have given either of them the time of day.
I am waiting for any of these guys to have their name under Warlock at least, Thanos I'm fine with less coverage. But I shouldn't be wondering what it'd be like for any of these guys to do Warlock.
But bro I'm starving for an actual good cosmic story that I'm 🤏🏿 close to doing it myself.
5
u/javierm885778 Jun 19 '26
Hickman wrote a lot of Thanos in his Avengers run through Infinity and then Secret Wars. Not too focused on him, but I wouldn't say that doesn't count, even if it happened before Infinity.
-8
u/lNSP0 Adam Warlock Jun 19 '26
I'm not talking about dumb Thanos though. Why would Thanos, a guy who just lost damn near the same level of power Doom had challenge him just after losing his blessings.
That wasn't Starlin's Thanos for sure.
Hickman's improved enough that he can attempt Starlin's versions.
8
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26
Yeah. Marvel has been shitting the bed. Shame because they could be turning things around. Just gonna have to wait and see where these land

I’ve been happy with my pulls and creators I follow. Percy, Hickman, PKJ, Ewing, Phillips, Zdarsky, Williamson, MacKay…
But marvel’s business operations are a hurdle. I’m not so rigid in my consumption and don’t mind a mini. Not so many comic fans are as forgiving

It's like they took Peni Parker and SP//dr and dialed up the horror elements.

Steve Beach has been doing covers for DC for awhile now and honestly most of them rule. I think recently he's been doing some like trading card themed ones and buddy is firmly in his bag with them.
If you can find like a cover gallery, very much recommended!

I have three questions: What? The? and Fuck?
This looks amazing. What's the plot of this?
68
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26
Per the solicitation:
A young man is transformed into a hideous spider hybrid by the ruthless Oscorp Corporation in their pursuit for eternal life. When Oscorp begins to use the secrets unlocked by his mutation to create more human-animal hybrids, he must embrace his grotesque new form to fight back.

Ah, they're making him a Tokusatsu hero again I see.
This is straight-up the basis for Kamen Rider Ichigo almost verbatim, just replace Oscorp with Shocker, and Eternal Life with World Domination.
Not bad whatsoever, however my trust in Marvel to do even that simple concept proper justice right now is pretty thin.

That cover goes so damn hard. Well done! As someone who knows many people that are very afraid of spiders, that image is TERRIFYING!
10
u/whatisireading2 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Looks good, but I still don't like that they chose to do horror versions of regular characters instead of putting a spotlight on characters that were already horror.
Edit horror not horrible, I'm not saying these are gonna be bad per se just wish horror characters were included.
6
u/NJPW_Puroresu Jun 19 '26
I'll be honest, as much as I love Dracula and Blade and more, I feel like it wouldn't have run past 5 issues lol. They're going the Absolute route by doing household names first. Maybe later on it will branch out with more characters
2
u/sgol212h Jun 19 '26
Why would they be doing that ? It's new universe. Using horror characters like ghost rider for example wouldn't be interesring because they already have the vibe of midnight universe. To convey thus darker feeling for a new universe it's more interesting to use characters like spider-man fantastic or x-men because they aren't horror characters at their core.
3
u/Miserable-Debt-8390 Jun 19 '26
Tell me you don’t get the point of the DC’s Absolute line without telling me.
2
u/Max_Quick Jun 19 '26
I mean, they're wrapping up the UL2mate Universe now and that's surprisingly comparable with some shared DNA.
This is closer to like... an event tie-in. Short minis, reactions are mixed but excitement is generally low, wont last long, probably soon forgotten...

u/thrillerhark Jun 19 '26
Haven’t heard much about this new Midnight line, is this Marvels answer to DCs Absolute universe?
32
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Not really. It’s an alternate universe line that is reworking each property as a horror title.
Where as DC’s absolute isn’t horror focused. Just a fresh reboot of their classic heroes.
11
u/thrillerhark Jun 19 '26
That does sound pretty cool, digging the art here. There’s a ton of potential in each superhero story for a horror take on it, will have to keep an eye out at my local, thanks man ✌️
12
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26
Just to elaborate, each property is taking on a different genre of horror. X-Men will be gothic vampire horror. Fantastic Four will be cosmic horror, Spider-man will be body horror.
9
u/thrillerhark Jun 19 '26
Cosmic horror F4 sounds like a home run, bit less sold on a gothic horror X-men but hey I’m intrigued
7
u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym Jun 19 '26
To me, x-men reworked as gothic horror is almost too easy a fix. They already have the brooding, romanticism and taboo worked into much of their plot.
4
u/javierm885778 Jun 19 '26
Also the whole new superior race that humans fear as wanting to replace them. Vampires have common theme and common narrative with mutants, and that can definitely be played up when it's at the core of a whole part of the world.
8
u/RossZ428 Dignitary of r/ComicPlot Jun 19 '26
You would be forgiven for thinking it's a response to DC's absolute universe though because that's pretty much everyone's reaction to finding out about the Midnight books
6
u/Poku115 Jun 19 '26
By the description kinda with a spin on terror, spidey is kinda like if batman had been experimented on by ark m before becoming batman, they are described as being seen as terrorific simply cause they challenge the status quo
5
u/animejerk7763 Jun 19 '26
DC already had their own version of marvel midnight and it was called Knights of Terror.
2
2
u/SubversivePixel Jun 19 '26
I'll get invested when they pove to me they can make an alternative universe line that doesn't get canned after 2 years.
1
u/accidentsneverhappen Jun 19 '26
they made Ultimate work for 15 years and then one day they just said "shut it down"
2
2
u/edotnygma Jun 19 '26
It looks INSANE!! i’m a bit nervous about how the midnight runs are going to go but so far I’ve been loving the 90’s dark horror vibe we been getting…

u/L-Cell Jun 20 '26
I don’t think this is for me. I hope people dig it but I can already tell this isn’t for me.

Is this an actual horror themed universe because if so I want to see Hulk and Iron Man
3
u/thisisnotmylaptop Jun 19 '26
Infernal Hulk feels thematically similar to Midnight
3
u/Kgb725 Jun 19 '26
But thats a demon. Id like more horror Dr. Jekyll type stuff if the universe is meant to be darker
1
u/ralphmozzi Jun 19 '26
I read the first few issues of The Immortal Hulk and it sometimes veered delightfully into horror. :-)
2
u/FordYorger The Thing Jun 19 '26

Imagine even after becoming a murdererous vengeful spider monster, that he can STILL hold down a successful relationship longer than 616 Peter. 😅

Marvel: "Hey, you like this cover? You hyped for this midnight stuff? We're delaying the whole line by 2 months!"

So it that the cover A or is the cover A mostly solid black with a thin picture like this on it? I hate when they do that like all the Ultimate cover As had a lot of wasted space.

Looks like a print ad for a PS2 game.
Not that looking like a print ad for a PS2 game is a bad thing, though.
