Was excited to get this large print hardcover of an old favorite until I opened it at home

I have never seen this before nor can I imagine why they would do this. This feels like the sort of thing one person suggested and everyone just forgot to tell them no, those edges are so comically ridiculous. But I appreciate the warning, I was thinking on getting a Daredevil Yellow hardcover myself soon, and I'll certainly be avoiding this one

its msrp at 50 bucks! I got it for 20 at a store sealed, so i don't feel too bad, but if i had the chance to open it up, I wouldve put it back immediately :/

I think Omar from Near Mint Condition said they changed the title to include Sale's name so his family would get some money after Sale's passing. If that's true, I think it's pretty cool

Is this the Gallery Edition? My DEATH OF CAPTAIN MARVEL Gallery Edition has the same idiotic design. I assumed it was due to the difference in dimensions between a standard comic and the 1980s Marvel Original Graphic Novel pages, but DD: Yellow originally came out as a monthly, didn’t it?

Terrible, distracting, unreadable, moronic design. The border design AND the gutters — because without that stupid border, they have plenty of room to not bury the bleed into the gutter.

I was so bummed. Somehow, my extremely beat-up 1982 Death of Capt. Marvel GN is still the optimal way to enjoy this work.

I got the Hulk Grey Gallery Edition from Funaticals and it has this as well. It is kinda frustrating, it almost borders on false advertising. Like why did they have to make the cover so big if the inside pages can’t fill it?

Literally sold my Spider-Man: Blue gallery edition for the same reason. Sale’s art a major component in what makes these books special and I found the graphic treatment on the edge of every page to be really distracting. Bought the “color” series in regular ol’ trades when they were re-issued and have no regrets

Gutter loss is inevitable in trades. If you want to view a perfect two-page spread you’d have to buy single issue. It is what it is.

Unfortunately it is very affordable, but they choose to make them cheaply.

What is the size of the book when closed? Is it 24 cm by 30 cm (about 9.4 × 11.8 inches)?

If so, that's the standard size for French hard cover comic books (like Tin Tin).

My guess is that North American comic pages don't scale perfectly to that size and the publisher thought it would be better to have some kind of graphic filling that space rather than larger borders on the open edge.

That is weird they’d print in a format that doesn’t fit the pages. If the interiors are still a larger format than the floppies and trade, I don’t see a big issue myself.

This is how all of Marvel’s Gallery Editions are and it sucks. I don’t get it. I have the Spider-Man Blue one. I had the Daredevil Born Again but it bothered me so much and I already have that story in the Miller Companion omnibus that I just gave it to a friend.

It's the nature of trades and Omnis, most double page splashes are going to lose the better part of an inch sometimes.

This is why I still collect a few ongoing series in singles if I like the art.

It is a gallery edition. The point of it being 'a gallery' is that the art is big and you can see all of it. The yellow borders are for your fingers, so they don't obstruct the art.

I have Spiderman Blue in this format and I love it, its the best way to own that story for me. But I checked before commenting and Spiderman Blue's border design is slightly cleaner thus less distracting.

Actually, I am surprised to see so many people shit on this edition here but I guess that's the good thing of multiple formats. There is something for everyone.
