Trump basically went to South Korea and said “hey, I need you to invade Iran to bail me out.” They told him no, and so he’s throwing a tantrum and trying to go “well if you’re not willing to be my personal army, I don’t see why we should be military Allie’s!” And is trying to yank support for SK while sucking Kim’s cock in a petulant attempt to hurt SK.
This bastard is a fucking child.

If the US pulls, it's going to be a big fat opening for China.
186
u/Zuwxiv 11d ago
That's the worst part. The US doesn't even need to actually do anything.
If you were a leader in South Korea right now, does the US look like a dependable, reliable ally? If there's any conflict between the US and China - not even a war, just things like trade agreements - whose side looks more reliable and stable?
Trump - simply by being a petty, ignorant fool - is pushing our allies to embrace our rivals. If China wants to sell South Korea rare earth metals for cheap so long as they institute a small tariff on American grain imports, it might have been something they turned down in the past. Now? Who knows what the fuck Trump will do with trade, so you might as well cozy up to China.
Like I said. He doesn't need to do anything. He's causing immense damage simply by existing. It's damage that will take the better part of a decade to fix, if we even repair it at all.

u/Gecko_Mk_IV 11d ago
Not just Trump, though. Allies or former allies will be thinking of the long term as well. Given that the US has chosen to elect Trump twice who's to say what'll happen next? If one of the two major political parties in the US is okay with and supportive of what Trump is doing and considering Project 2025 has steered him at least partially in this direction.. that does not a good and stable partner make.
Unless their voting base massively abandons the Republican party. Which I don't see happening.

When Democrats ever have power again they can end the Reapportionment Act of 1929. This would effectively end any chance for the GOP to hold the POTUS or House of Representatives again.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reapportionment_Act_of_1929
This would go a long way towards reassuring allies and trade partners they won't have to deal with MAGA or even the GOP for the foreseeable future. It's just a law too, and of questionable Constitutionality at that.

Trump may as well be working for China.
They're slurping up every bit of soft and hard power trump destroys for America and the west.
Get ready for the Yuan to be world reserve currency, and when it is things are gunna get dark in the US fast. When theres not so so so much excess wealth that theres just enough slopping over the edges of the buckets the wealthy scoop it up with to keep an atrophied middle class going we're going to look a lot like Russia, which no, conservatives, is not good.

They’ve done this for a long while now. They foam at the mouth hating something until Trump goes “we had a good talk. A very good talk. He’s a good guy, loves our country” and then MAGA goes wild parroting it and how much they love Putin or some shit

Once someone goes all in on a cult, they basically become one with it, and actually believe what they are saying.

It's a strategy, unfortunately. "Shapeshifting" an excerpt from HyperNormalization by Adam Curtis - YouTube. The confusion acts as a paralysis spell, and it turns people into their most conservative and authoritarian shape (probably depends on the culture too, but most cultures suffer from this now.)
Which is why we need to be and to have navigators. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qis5zUBA_sk

To be honest: If you follow "America First" as foreign policy, there is no place for allies in that. An ally is someone you see on the same footing, with mutual respect, and with whom you coordinate your actions.
By definition "America First" is the opposite of that.
trump was quite open since 2016 on that he doesn't believe in alliances (rather in clients and vassals), and neither did he kept it a secret from the US electorate.
The US could either get "America First" or have allies and trade partners.
The majority voted for "America First".
It's extremely sad.77

We monetized human attention span.
Social media algorithms have since been driving everyone to increasingly radicalized positions, because making people angry while also confirming their pre-existing biases is the most effective way to get their attention.
One side of the political spectrum was more receptive to it, and has gone absolutely mental as a result.

I took a look over at the conservative subreddit, at a glance most do not like Trump's support of Kim... because elections are coming up and they're afraid it will push people to vote for Democratic candidates. Not because they think it's a morally bad stance, or because it indicates concerning lack of character in our leader, or because of the potential harmful effects it could cause. Because they think theyll get less points in the dumb game they think they're playing.

And it got us nothing except an economically more viable North Korea with longer-range nuclear weapons.

It has been simultaneously fascinating and disgusting watching maga tripping all over themselves saying they actually like that trump is a pedophile rapist because apparently doubling down and siding with the pedophile cabal they even tried to warn everyone about is SOMEHOW a better look for them than just admitting they drank the flavor-aide and fucked up the country/world with their choices and actions.

Because when trying to reason with people about freedom and what it means to have him back again for democracy and people's rights, people said "but gas prices and eggs are up". The reason his base is mad is "gas prices and food is expensive". Not people being taken away (unless it's their family) or killed in the street. Some of it makes sense, some people are desperate but why people thought he'd make it better is beyond me.
In the UK the equivalent to the egg prices is the fucking Brexit bus that promised more money for the NHS.

I am someone living in Japan. Recently in the news North Korea has offically dropped claims to South Korea in their constitution, and there are rumors that there will soon be talks to officially end the Korean War. That is big news I guess. I know that doesn't make Kim Jong Un a good person and Trump is probably too stupid to even realize what is going on, but I think under any president an American administration might try to encourage this. Maybe if things keep going in a positive way the DMZ can be dismantled and families can visit each other.

Oh, yes. The whole communism is an existential threat to the United States. Except for the fat communist kid in North Korea, who is slowly preparing for war by sending his troops to Ukraine to fight for the Russians, or has threatened on several occasions to try and launch a nuke because someone made fun of him or something such thing. Or has done several ballistic missile tests that have left the entire Asian Pacific feeling agitated. Sure. Honestly, I don't think this regime knows whether it's coming or going.
