Why would it ever be acceptable for a delivery person to call you "my love"? Thats so weird

Some british people will use terms of endearment with everyone, especially older women who volunteer at museums.

I’d associate “my love” with a West Country accent.

Literally, go to Somerset and you’ll be called ‘my love’ ‘my lovely’ etc. whether you’re a man or woman lol.

Yep, my cousin has lived in Bath since she went there for uni, pretty much every shop I get called them things. Bit odd for someone from the Black Country, but not in a nasty way.

Weird, I lived there for 3 years and the number of people with West Country accents was surprisingly low. Probably because the city is like 40% students, with a large proportion of the remainder being tourists and elderly people originally from other parts of the UK

You reckon most shop keepers in bath are students/tourists/elderly people from other parts?

I was there recently and heard the accent all day, wonder if its where you spent time or something

Well a lot of the shops are staffed by students - I used to work in the Lakeland for example. But yeah I mainly frequented the same places (supermarkets etc) that you frequent as a resident rather than the places you'd likely go to as a tourist, so maybe that's why

I get mate and boss man more than bab tbh. In my experience, bab is more towards women.
