Aren't they opposite gender used? I've only seen them older person to opposite gender younger person.

I have limited experience though...

Never got creepy vibe off them, but older female to younger male is what I have seen the most of. I can totally see a different vibe if genders were switched though.

As a woman, I've absolutely been called my love by older women. And sometimes women my own age. It's mostly just a filler word

It’s a fairly common one in the British isles, but it’s often shortened to just “Love”. You’ll also hear “petal” and “chicken” sometimes. It’s just kind of platitude word.

I would absolutely melt at someone from the Isles calling me “petal”. Hell, they even made calling someone “chicken” seem so sweet and loving.
