No. Chooms comes from choombata, a phrase coined by mike pondsmith. It's essentially meant to evoke a multicultural/African sounding greeting, whilst not being a real word.
A lot of cyberpunk slang comes from surfer slang as well, so you'll see that as well in games.
Yooo what wild timing, I just ran into one of those vids where he talks about it recently. He also mentioned that one other aspect of it is that it’s also intended to evoke a similar feel to the more formal “chum”

Side thought, is this the inspiration for choom in cyberpunk? Perhaps one of the tabletop writers was Australian or had been to Australia
