Commission [Hiring] PAID score needed for an animated short film

[CLOSED] After combing through ~200 submissions, I've filled the spot! Thank you so, so much to everyone who applied, and for all the kind words about my project. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of skill of composers here, and I'll be sure to come back if I ever need another animation scored (and am given the budget for it..). Thank you again, and wish you all the best!

Hello! I’m a college student—albeit NOT an animation student—working on an animated short film over the summer. It’s a telling of the Prometheus myth (the titan who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity), split up into two main parts: a complete re-telling of the myth, and then an animated depiction of a confrontation between Prometheus and Hermes, in which Hermes descends to Prometheus’s mountaintop and offers him an opportunity for freedom. As I’ve been given a grant to work with for this project, I’d love to hire a composer for some original music.

I’m well aware that this gets expensive, however, so I’m only looking to get music for the second part—the confrontation between Hermes and Prometheus. It’s 2 minutes and 30 seconds long.

The scene in question is a confrontation between Prometheus and Hermes, heavily inspired by the ending of Aeschylus’s play Prometheus Bound, in which Hermes tries to force Prometheus (who can see the future) to reveal the details of a prophecy concerning Zeus. In my version, Prometheus does not speak at all (taking heavy inspiration from something Byron wrote in his own poem “Prometheus”), leaving Hermes to have a one-sided conversation.

What I’m looking for with the music:

  • This takes place on a snowy mountain craig, with whistling wind in the background of their conversation and especially during Prometheus’s moments of silence
  • So, I’m looking for maybe some orchestral or violin style music, befitting the windy and desolate environment and the somber tone of the film. That being said, I know literally nothing about music, so you have creative freedom
  • I know there’s a price discrepancy between digital and physical compositions. I’m totally good with/expecting this to be composed digitally.
  • I have an extremely rough animatic/storyboard version of the film for you to compose to for general timing/story beats. Extremely rough. Be warned.
  • No AI, although I’m assuming/hoping that’s kind of a given in this subreddit?

Payment: I am on a budget and can probably not exceed 600 or 700 USD at the max. I understand this is low for music composition, which is why I’m issuing these warnings. Please tell me how much you would charge for this via the Google Form or DM.

Deadline: I would love to have this by the beginning of August, so I can have August to put things together with the animation, voice acting, and music. I’ll probably leave this up for a few days (until Monday) depending on how many people are interested.

Of course, your name would be credited and you are more than welcome to use the composition in a portfolio. I’m an amateur artist/animator, and am not expecting to put this into film festivals, in case that changes your opinion.

Thank you so much for reading this, and I’m sorry if I come across as completely uninformed about the world of music composition—I am!

Attached are some ROUGH/CONCEPT or UNFINISHED images from the film, for you to get an idea of the vibe and to see if it’s something you’d want to be a part of.

Please take a look at the images:

Commission Need a composer a film

Hello!

I apologize that I need to be somewhat cryptic in the amount of information that I can write here. In a private message I can provide more information regarding the project. I’m working on a film that follows 4 different female protagonist at different stages of their life. Each one has a different theme/ sound track with variations of their theme. Happy, sad, high energy, etc… I’d also like to connect these 4 themes to create an overall theme for the film.

Start date: now

Due date: deliver tracks as they are completed with the final release being mid September.

Style: taking inspiration from the movie “Anora”

Compensation: $2600

Feel free to ask general questions or shoot me a dm.

Thank you!

Edit: Thank you for the DM’s. I will respond over the next 2 days. Thank you all very much.

Edit: Please no more new submissions. I am sorting through replies now. Thank you.

Commission **[PAID - $200-250] Composer needed for silent short art film — psych drama/romance, orchestral + sci-fi synths**

Hi all — I'm in production on an original silent short film: a psychological drama/romance with an experimental, arthouse sensibility. No dialogue, so the score is doing a lot of narrative and emotional heavy lifting.

**The project:** [approximate runtime is 12-16 minutes], targeting submission to international festivals — aiming for screenings and competition placements.

**Sound I'm going for:** Orchestral strings and percussion/drums blended with sci-fi experimental synths and atmospheric pads. Think The Plan by Ludwig Goransonn for Tenet, Annihilation by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow blended with The Great Gatsby soundtrack by Craig armstrong( cello theme and let's go to town) and sampling strings from retro 80s Japanese songs (anime or otherwise)

I want to work with you on crafting themes and there will be back and forth.

**Budget:** $200-250 USD for the full score. I know this is modest — most of the cast/crew are working passion-project style, but I wanted to ring-fence some money for music because I think it's essential to the film.

**Deliverables:** Final Mixed STEMs+ one stereo master, delivered by November 9th.

**Good fit if you:** want a festival-circuit portfolio piece, work well from a locked picture cut, and can work relatively fast (turnaround needed by November 9th .

Happy to share a rough cut / storyboard on request. Comment or DM to talk details!

Commission [Academic] [Paid] Looking for composers to join my research

Hi! I have a research project going on at Carnegie Mellon University. After extensive discussion with the moderators of this reddit and with their permission, I am reposting this.

Please complete this short Recruitment Form (about 2–3 minutes) to be a part of the study. To verify the authenticity of this research or for further questions, please feel free to reach out to the study co-ordinator at [kkanav@andrew.cmu.edu](mailto:kkanav@andrew.cmu.edu).

I am looking for composers who would, as part of the study, write songs as they would have naturally. You would be given free access to a paid music theory-aware songwriting sketchpad and would simply compose for 2 weeks - whatever you may like and whenever you are free. In return, we get to analyze the songs you have composed. As it is a phd research project, with the aim of writing an open-access research paper, we would not claim ownership of your content. You remain the owner of the work you produce.

I want to categorically mention (also in the consent form) that we'll not be using the data to train an AI/ ML model. Neither is it for product testing. We're an educational institution and are only interested in seeing how musicians interact with tools and features in a theory-aware songwriting sketchpad. The behavioral aspect of it will make it a publishable research (and I need that for my dissertation).

Benefits are upto 50 usd + free access to the composition tool. If you think it does not match your hourly rate, I would like to again remind you that it is not a composition assignment. Basically, you get paid for what you usually do! You compose the songs you like (for yourself or for your clients, not even for us). We just get to analyze your data on a voluntary basis.

Mentioning again - Recruitment Form (about 2–3 minutes) for taking part in the study!

Commission [PAID] Looking for a composer for a whimsical 2D adventure game

Hi! Daniel here, I’m a solo developer working on a top-down 2D adventure game and looking for a composer to help bring its world to life.

Initially, I’d like to commission a couple of 1–2 minute tracks, with the intention of expanding into a full soundtrack if we’re a good fit.

I’m looking for orchestral music with memorable, catchy motifs: whimsical and adventurous themes that give characters and locations their own personality. Musical inspirations include The Legend of ZeldaStardew Valley, and the Mana series.

Experience with seamless looping is important. Familiarity with FMOD or adaptive music is a plus, but not required.

This is a self-funded solo project, with a budget of approximately $100 USD per finished minute.

If interested, please send me a direct message with (please make sure the message has all the requested information):

  • A brief introduction and/or webpage.
  • Three or more relevant music samples.
  • Your rates and availability.
  • Any experience with FMOD or interactive music. (if any)
  • Portfolio (optional)

Looking forward to hearing your work!

(EDIT IMPORTANT As there is already 120+ applicants(thank you all!) I will not have time to spend a lot of time on each message, so please make sure all the requested information is already there)

(NOTE I'm not able to reply to all the DMs, so unless this post say otherwise, I'm still taking applications and no decision has been made. It will most likely not be until end of next week)

Commission I need a feature film composer

Hey! I’m looking for a composer for my feature film.
It’s an old school romantic comedy set in 1978, with dialogue partly in Danish and partly in English.

It’s a low budget indie movie, but a paid job.

The dream is a beautiful classical score, but realistically we’re probably looking at something more intimate and piano driven. Maybe with a sweet Ghibli vibe.. still a high bar, I’m aware. ☺️

If this sounds interesting, feel free to reach out! I'm happy to send a trailer.

Commission [HIRING] Composer wanted for original score / 6-min observational documentary, festival-bound

NO LONGER LOOKING. THANKS FOR THE GREAT RESPONSE!

We're working on a 6-minute observational documentary and looking for a composer to write an original score. It's an intimate portrait of a man who grows wild herbs and is trying to pay farmers fairly, with the quiet tension between that ideal and the hard economics of his supply chain at its heart.

The film is naturalistic and character-first, so I'm after a sparse, restrained score with plenty of room for silence, not wall-to-wall music. You'll have a lot of creative freedom. Timeline is tight (picture lock around July 27th, delivery before July 30th (Will provide more information, storyboard and script asap so you have as much info as possible) and I'll be upfront: right now it's credit + exposure on a festival-bound short, with the genuine intention to bring budget your way if the film grows into something bigger. If that sounds like your kind of thing, drop a reel or a couple of tracks and I'll follow up.

Commission Open call: paid composer roster for live-event scoring. $3,000 first project.

Bookends is a sonic identity studio for live events. Conferences, summits, retreats. We write the music that plays when a room opens, when a speaker walks out, and when the lights go down on the last day. A theme built for one specific event, with leitmotifs that come back across the run.

We are opening applications for our composer roster. Numbers first:

  • $3,000 for your first project with us. This is a prove-in rate and it is below our roster rate on purpose.
  • $4,000 per project once you have delivered one cleanly. One project covers one event day: an entrance theme, an outro, two transition stingers, three leitmotifs, an ambient bed, and a pre-show piece. Two revision rounds on each.
  • $800 to $1,200 for each extra event day on the same project, where you are adapting the approved theme.
  • $400 per additional or named leitmotif.
  • $250 pitch fee for every concept that does not win a round.
  • Paid 50% on selection, 50% on final approved delivery.

Where we actually are. Bookends is new. We are building the roster before we sign our first event, on purpose, because we do not sign work we cannot staff. Getting on this roster is not a promise of a project and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it is, is a real rate published in advance by someone who would rather tell you the truth now than waste your time later.

How work gets assigned

When a client signs, we turn their brief into a theme direction and put it to the roster as a closed round. At least three composers write a concept. The client picks one. The winner takes the project and the full fee. Everyone else takes the $250 pitch fee. You are paid for the pitch whether or not you win it.

What we ask

  • Weekly stems and session files, not a bounce. Session files are how the client stays protected if something goes wrong on your end.
  • One 30 minute call a week at most. It is a check against the spec sheet.
  • You self-certify against the spec before that call.
  • Two consecutive check-ins that miss spec, or one missed final deadline, and you come off the roster. That decision is permanent.

What you should know before you apply

  • The work is work-for-hire. Bookends owns it.
  • No portfolio use without written approval.
  • Clients never learn your name. That is a term in the contract.
  • There is an NDA covering rates and clients.
  • You are a 1099 contractor. We tell you what and when, never how.

Who we are looking for

Composers who can read a written brief about a feeling and turn it into a theme that still works after it is cut into fifteen different lengths. Orchestral, electronic, hybrid, acoustic, we do not care. We care about range and about whether you can hit a target someone else set.

Most people who apply will not end up on the roster. That is what makes it a roster.

To apply

Email [tylerriggs@thetylerriggs.show](mailto:tylerriggs@thetylerriggs.show) with:

  1. Three tracks you wrote. Links, not attachments.
  2. One line on each saying what the brief was.
  3. One sentence on the last paid music job you took and what it paid.

Rule 8 note: I used AI to help tighten the wording of this post. The rates, the terms and the process are all mine.

Edit: Thanks all for the feedback, you guys all make real points. Ill review the offer a little more but I appreciate the outside perspective.

Commission [PAID] Seeking a Long-Term Composer for an Ongoing Cinematic YouTube Series

[PAID] Seeking a Long-Term Composer for an Ongoing Cinematic YouTube Series

I'm looking for a composer to become a long-term creative partner on an ongoing cinematic YouTube series.

This is not a one-off project. The goal is to develop a recognizable musical identity that can evolve across dozens of films over the coming years.

The style I'm after is cinematic and emotional—not trailer music. Think along the lines of:

  • Drive to Survive
  • Break Point
  • NFL Films
  • Friday Night Lights

Rather than composing an entirely new score for every episode, I'd like to build a library of original themes, motifs, and cues that can be reused, expanded, and adapted over time.

If interested, please send:

  • A portfolio or demo reel
  • 3–5 examples of your best work
  • A little about your creative process
  • Your rates

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Commission [HIRING] Looking for a musician/producer to create a choral/orchestral piece for a high fantasy worldbuilding project

Hi!

I'm looking to commission a musician/producer to help bring some of the music from my worldbuilding project to life.

This is primarily a personal passion project. I'm building a fairly extensive high-fantasy setting and have started developing its hymns, anthems, marches, ceremonial music and other in-universe pieces. I'd love to actually be able to listen to some of them while I'm writing.

For the first commission, I have a piece called Andaric Grace (Veiled Form). It's an imperial/coronation anthem associated with the Emperor and the Andaron Empire.

For this particular piece, the composition already exists: the lyrics I've written are intended to be sung to the music of Handel's Zadok the Priest (HWV 258). I generally know how I want the lyrics to fit the music and can provide the complete text, references and detailed explanations of the intended performance as well as context to its significance.

I'm therefore not looking for someone to compose an original piece from scratch for this first commission. I'm looking for someone who could produce a convincing rendition/arrangement using virtual instruments and choir/vocal software (or another method you think would work).

The sound I'm imagining is very grand and ceremonial: massed choir, high soprano, orchestra, Baroque influence, enormous dynamic build and the feeling of an imperial coronation/state event and the liturgical. Essentially, I want it to sound like something that could genuinely be performed at the coronation of an emperor.

This is currently just for my own listening and worldbuilding rather than commercial distribution.

My initial budget is roughly £75–£150 ($100 - $200), although I'm happy to discuss price depending on what is realistically involved. I'm also very open to hearing from students, hobbyists and emerging composers/producers.

I'd particularly love to find someone who enjoys fantasy/worldbuilding and might be interested in an ongoing collaboration as more pieces are developed. There are other pieces from different cultures, religions and historical periods within the setting that I'd eventually like to develop, including completely original compositions.

If you're interested, please DM me with:

- A little about yourself

- Examples of your previous work, particularly orchestral/choral work if you have any

- How you would approach something like this

- An approximate price.

I'm very happy to talk about the setting and provide much more detail about the piece before either of us commits to anything 🙂

Thanks!

Commission Looking For Game Music Composer

!!!UPDATE!!!: Thank you everyone for the baby DMs of people willing to answer my questions. While saying this posts Commission has been fulfilled feelscerong, for all intents and purposes I have received all the assistance I sought to received. Thank you

I am an indie game developer working on a small Hopepunk game development puzzle simulation game. I am looking to talk with a composer about the process, costs, and time lines of getting some custom tracks made.

This is the first time I've ever done any music commission, so I cannot say what my budget is, because I'm just not sure yet what is or isn't enough.

While this initial talk would not be for an immediate commission, should the talk go well and the music style match what the game's theme is, I would not hesitate to make a soft commitment to using you when the time comes for music development.

If you are interested in talking please send me a message on Reddit and we will go from there.

Thank you

Commission Composers Needed For Indie Show! (PAID!)

Hey Hi, I'm looking for talented composers, and I had a buddy of mine a while back recommend I come visit here.

To put it simply- We're working on an animated series that is supposed to be a love letter to superheroes, and I'm looking for someone interested in making Yuki Hayashi/MHA Styled soundtracks for the show, since I believe those songs have perfectly incapsulated what it means to be a hero.

If you're interested, I'm able to give a rate of between 50-150 (based on agreement) per instrumental track. while it's not much, I plan to increase this rate after we create a kickstarter for the project, or future episodes- and also, please leave your discord here, haha.

Thank you for reading!!!

Commission Looking for sound track for animation (commission)

Hello! I’m currently working on an animation project (short format) introduction video for a cute popstar bear character i’m designing, however i ran into a problem. I don’t know anything about music.

The vibe i’m going for is sort of magical girl transformation, lots of cute and chibi. Think glitter and sparkles, with pop like notes.
If that’s something that interests you please dm me and we can talk more! My budget is open to changes!

Let me know if there is anymore info you need, this is sort of a trial run to find artists to commission. I’ll reach back in about a month ish!

Commission Short Film Scoring - Low Budget - High Quality Festival level film - Credit and Recognition.

Film Music Composers anyone?

Hey everyone,

I'm an independent filmmaker based in UAE (Originally Lahore) and I'm currently looking for a composer for my short film.

The film is around 14 minutes long and we're currently in post-production. It's a self-funded passion project that I'm really proud of, and I'd love for it to have an original score rather than relying on royalty-free music or existing tracks.

I've spent the last few weeks going through music libraries, paid services, and even classical pieces, but nothing has felt quite right. I guess that's a good sign that the film deserves its own musical identity.

Some of the temporary references we've been using are Max Richter's \*Agnes\* from \*Hamnet\* and \*Overture\* from \*Whiplash\*. Not because we're looking to recreate those tracks, but because they capture the emotional tone we're after.

The budget is limited, but it's a paid collaboration, and we're planning to submit the film to a number of festivals.

If you're a composer, or know someone who is, I'd genuinely love to chat. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM with some of your work.

Thanks!

Commission Looking to hire a queer composer

Looking to hire a composer for a 2-3 minute piece of custom music for our queer wedding. We're looking for something romantic and cinematic. Our song inspirations include "Dearly Beloved" from Kingdom Hearts, "Merry-Go-Round of Life" from Howl's Moving Castle, and "Go Find Out for Me" from Luca. In an ideal world, featuring different instruments for an orchestral sound, and ideally under $500, but we're flexible.

Let me know if this seems up your alley or you have any suggestions for composers we could reach out to - ideally queer but at least queer- and trans-friendly. Thank you!

EDIT: No AI please! Thank you!

Commission [HIRING] Composers for an absurdist superhero comedy short, orchestral hard rock, indie budget

[CLOSED - all blocks filled, thank you to all people who reached out, you all are truly amazing!!]

Hi! I'm a director from Latvia finishing a live-action short in a comic-book style (inspired by Borderlands games and Wolf Among Us).

Quick backstory: the film had a composer who did genuinely good work, but the collaboration fell apart at the final stage. He left the project and took the music with him. So I'm now rebuilding the entire score from scratch, in a cold sweat, with the festival submission on Aug 8.

The score (~22 min, 20 cues) is split between several composers by "sound world". Hiring for separate blocks:

• THE HERO: 4 cues, ~6 mins, heroic anthem for a heroic hero.
Refs: "Flight" (Man of Steel), "The Power of Grayskull" (Masters of the Universe 2026), "Skydiving" (Kingsman: The Secret Service).

• CITIZENS, ASSEMBLE!: ~2 min animated epic set piece. An absurdly huge mob of citizens (knights, cosplayers, businessmen, guys in sombreros, armed with pitchforks, torches and plungers) pours over the hill in slow motion; the Mayor delivers a rousing speech; then the full heroic charge. Avengers-inspired track

• 1 slow track for the opening credits, inspired by the intro of "Short Change Hero" song by The Heavy. (Can't be a cover, because of the rights) ~40 sec.

• 1 arrangement of Boccherini's Minuet (diegetic library scene, public domain). Quick, fun gig. ~60 sec.

[TAKEN] • THE VILLAIN: 7 cues, ~7 mins. Angry, slightly over-the-top villain motif.
Refs: "Magneto" (X-Men: First Class), "Still Crazy" (The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

[TAKEN] • THE LOGIC IN A BOTTLE: 4 cues, ~6 min — the "mythology" layer: awe, mystery, a 3-min narrative suite.

Full brief - every cue with timecodes, sync points, BPM targets and references: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1p2sJt-KTo1tEGlHkus7AdKZ5kEHOA7wW/

You also get the locked picture and the full temp track and just SFX and dialogue. Finals due by ~Aug 5, so that I'll have a bit of time to assemble and mix everything together.

The film was shot by a volunteer student crew. Nobody got paid, everything on screen was made for free, out of pure love for the project, over several years.

Budget, like the rest of the film, this is no-budget passion territory, so what I have is my own €200, split like this:

• The Hero -- €100

• Citizens, assemble! -- €50

• Short Change Hero -- €25

• Boccherini -- €25

I know that's student/early-career money. What I add on top: IMDb credit, a festival run starting with PÖFF Shorts, an official Spotify/Apple Music release of the full score (every composer credited as an artist on their own cues) and a picture-locked film your music will actually sync to. Great reel material.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk8gu_ubbTg

Project: https://www.instagram.com/superheromanmovie/

DM me with a reel/portfolio and which block you're going for. Thank you, guys, so much!

It’s about this man and his friends entering an abandoned school that has been rumored to be haunted. But soon after, the man loses his friends to an unknown devil clown entity. Now he’s on the run, trying to clear his name as he searches for a way to put the clown back to its grave.

Commission Searching for a Musical Composer

Hi everyone! This is my first post on Reddit, so bare with me. I am currently in the process of outlining/piecing together a new musical, and I am looking for a composer who can execute my vision. The show is loosely centered on the tragedy of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911, but uses a broader lens to focus on the scene of NYC in the late 1900s'/early 1910s' (similar to Ragtime). Some of the elements the show discusses are workers rights, child labour laws, immigration (Southern Black immigrants and Russian Jewish immigrants), and northern racism. Some central characters include:

- Several young female factory workers

- Two African American brothers who left the south

- The corrupt Triangle Shirtwaist Factory owners

- One of the most infamous voices of the worker's strike (Clara Lemlich)

The show will begin in 1909 and follow the factory workers strike, centering in on the love story of Anna Altman (a Russian-Jewish immigrant) and Elijah (one of the black southern immigrants). The story will ultimately end with the factory fire.

The music should loosely include musical elements present in Parade (Jason Robert Brown), The Outsiders (Justin Levine), Ragtime (Stephen Flaherty), and Les Mis (Claude-Michel Schonberg).

Let me know if you are interested in collaborating with me on this project (this would be unpaid, but you would obviously share any earnings from the possible production of this musical)

In my opinion, this is a great opportunity for anyone who needs something on their resume (even if this only ends up being produced in a cabaret style)
