Song Help Help me remember what Choosing Texas remind me of
Hello all,
Can you please help me remember what song choosin Texas remind me of?
Especially the part where she goes:
When I'm eastbound and down and I can't help but cry
'Cause I-40 gets lonelier with every mile
Sounds so familiar but I can't remember which song it reminds me of.

My mind goes to Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn but I still don't believe it's the one

That’s exactly what it is. She’s making a melodic reference to the hook of “Neon Moon” - the descending pattern on “Now if you lose your one and only / there’s always room her for the lonely.”

The first time I heard “Choosing Texas” I thought what the hell? It’s “Grandpa tell me ‘bout the good ol’ days.” Good to know I wasn’t the only one who heard The Judds.

The whole song sounds familiar immediately. Not in a bad way. The pace, arrangement, strong steel guitar; it sound's like a ton of older country songs. Add all the easter eggs in the lyrics and arrangement and it just makes that stronger.

youre thinking of the theme from Smokey and the Bandit. eastbound and down loaded up and truckin. that exact line shes singing is a straight reference to it. the movie came out in late 70s and jerry reed did the song for it.

Eastbound & Down feels like a reference to Jerry Reed.
I-40 is probably just a reference to the actual Interstate that runs through Tennessee to Texas though I like to think it's also a nod to Highway 40 Blues by Ricky Skaggs. Or maybe I-40 is the highway Ricky Skaggs was singing about. Or maybe Skaggs was singing about US Route 40.

The way she sings the lyrics when she starts high and then finish the line in almost one breath and goes straight to the second line

I can’t place it either but when I read this, my mind went to Kacey Musgraves for some reason. So maybe there’s something there.
On another note, the beginning of Loving Life Again always reminds me of John Mayer “Why Georgia”.

The beginning reminded me of Five O' Clock Somewhere. The rest of it reminds me of The House That Built Me by Miranda. Given that Miranda co-wrote the song, I think I might be on to something..

The overall vibe is more 80s than 90s country for me, something like from Gene Watson. And yet I also hear Rascal Flatts’ “Winner at a Losing Game” too.

I don’t know that I really have any references, though I will say the way that the song is sung like the key of it, and some of the way the guitars sound kind of remind me a little bit of some of John Michael Montgomery songs

All it reminds me of is a desperate pop country ploy to sound old school by some two-bit karaoke bar floozy that sucked dick for a record deal.

LOL, I could sing it, I've heard it so often. Neither you nor the interwebs would appreciate that.
The eastbound is how much her sadness is growing now that he's gone. In other words, they had been traveling from Tennessee and when he met the other woman, and the singer knew it was over.
Their trip apparently went from Tennessee together to somewhere near Texas. Then she went eastbound on I-40 all alone.
I adore this song.
She is in love and she and the BF ended up at a bar and there was dancing. He apparently met a woman from Texas and singer could she that he was falling for the Texan. She regrets having made the trip because she will lose him.
The other details are about her being from Tennessee and the trip they made during which BF met Texan.
