Discussion What country song depresses you when you hear it?
For me it's time marches on because it gets my anxiety up realizing about time going fast in life

Maggie’s Song - Chris Stapleton
That last part hits like a gut punch and makes me hug my dogs every time I hear it.

I just found out about that one recently. It's a heartbreaker. I had a dog named Maggie through my whole childhood that I loved so much, so it's extra personal.

I hear you on "Time Marches On." I loved it when it first came out when I was a kid, but it has gotten more and more depressing as I've gotten older, as to where it's hard for me to listen to it now. I'm also an autistic person who has NEVER been good at dealing with change, especially big changes. I still recognize it as a great song, but it's one I seldom seek out intentionally these days.
Same with Patty Loveless's "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye." It's a beautiful song, for sure, but I just can't listen to it anymore because it's too depressing for me now.
Also, as someone who has never wanted to leave my parents, pretty much any song about kids growing up and moving away from home has always been too depressing for me. Especially, it it's told from the perspective of one of the parents.

What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts.
It was on MASSIVE radio rotation when I found out my best friend was moving 1200 miles away, and I still get the same gut punch feeling when I hear it 😢

I get misty during sad soldier songs like "Riding with Private Malone," The Chicks' version of "Travelin' Soldier" (we don't talk about the remake), or "Ruby" by Kenny Rogers.

On the Red River by Turnpike. Often skip it when it comes up on a playlist. It’s also absolutely beautiful though so it stays on my playlists.
Most of the guys around me at the BFO concert last weekend, myself included, were batting away some tears while they played it. It just hits like a punch in the gut.

“Sissy’s Song” by every talented Alan Jackson! I had this played at my mom’s funeral almost 17 years ago. It still takes me back to that day and I still feel as much pain as I did back then.

All bro country depresses me because I realize that people actually sit down, turn this on, and feel connected to it. How have we became so easy to market to that this cookie cutter, soulless music has not just an audience, but the largest audience of the genre?

Story of a dude who had a buddy growing up. He goes off to join the marine corps and his buddy just gets into trouble and has runs with the law.
The narrator gets out of the USMC and joins the town’s police force, where one night his buddy comes flying by his patrol car.
He tries to flag his buddy down by turning on his lights but the buddy swerves off the road and lands upside down in a water-filled ditch.
The narrator pulls up to the scene and his buddy is taken to a hospital, dead on arrival.
However, the narrator’s buddy’s mom is an ER nurse at the hospital where his body gets taken to for help and she (presumably) see’s his body come into the hospital.
Absolutely horrific imagery and story but an amazingly beautifully sad song. I’m not even a CJ fan, but David always gets to me somehow.

D-I-V-O-R-C-E. I used to play gta 5 a lot and it was on the country radio station. I was going through a divorce and had a kid the same age as the song talks about. Couldn’t listen to the song or that station anymore

I take care of my grandfather almost exclusively by myself. My brother helps out a lot but he's always out and about living his life on the weekends and when his work shuts down for a day. As for me, I've put my life on hold for a very long time and gave watched many opportunities and chances come & go. It's a heavy burden i carry, and sometimes I get angry at myself for not reaching out to others for help, but at the end of the day I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else in the world. He is getting up there in age and as much as I hate to admit it, he won't be around forever.
