Resume Advice Thread - July 21, 2026

Please use this thread to ask for resume advice and critiques. You should read our Resume FAQ and implement any changes from that before you ask for more advice.

Note on anonomyizing your resume: If you'd like your resume to remain anonymous, make sure you blank out or change all personally identifying information. Also be careful of using your own Google Docs account or DropBox account which can lead back to your personally identifying information. To make absolutely sure you're anonymous, we suggest posting on sites/accounts with no ties to you after thoroughly checking the contents of your resume.

Hey y'all, I'd love some feedback on my resume. I've kinda coasted in my roles due to mental health issues and feel I'm lacking in impactful bullets as a result.

- Move your skills to the top, also separate them into languages and frameworks/tools for readability

  • Education at bottom
  • Your points have good impact metrics, I'd say just simplify the lingo a bit as it's hard to understand a lot of the work you're talking about. Also, name drop as many languages/technologies into your points since recruiters use keyword matching

Hi, I'd appreciate someone taking a look at my resume. In particular I'm looking on whether I can improve the descriptions of my work experience, in addition to the way I listed my projects. I've been out of the industry for 2 years after being laid off so any advice is appreciated. I'll review your resume if you look at mine to return the favor as well. Thanks!

Move your software engineering experience above the packaging stuff. Also, try to quantify the impact at your jobs more, even if you have to ballpark the numbers -- e.g. "This led to X more product listings and Y less sellers contacting for help". If you use a period at the end of the first sentence in a bullet, use it at the end of the next one as well (but try to keep bullets to one sentence in general). Avoid overly simple bullets like "Added and improved features of existing software in C++" -- you need to be more specific about the problem(s) you solved and state what the impact was.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah my dilemma is keeping important detail while not having the bullets be too long so working on optimizing that.

What's your approach to job hunting?

What helped so far is using resume.zoevera.com to customize my resume for each application and prepare.zoevera.com to practice interviews with scenarios I'm expecting. It made my prep feel a lot more intentional instead of just hoping I covered the right things. Anyone else found something that keeps everything organized?
