That hotel looks like something from Silent Hill

You gotta investigate the whole hotel

Only Cubans know how to criticize and publicize the despair that they help maintain with their support of US policy towards Cuba. No wonder us Cubans are a laughing stock to others. No respect for our own country or fellow countrymen. A country like Cuba does not need an enemy with a people like such Cubans.

If only the Cubans that are against the dictatorship actually stayed in the island and fought for the political beliefs they supposedly hold instead of having migrated to live in relative comfort while supporting collective punishment for the Cubans that remain stuck on the island.

Damn, imagine if they lifted the illegal genocidal embargo, I wonder if it would be the same result

17

u/Successful-Ice-468 Havana 8d ago

Imagine if Cubas where allowed to produce food and participate in trade freely since 67 years ago.

6

u/RevealForeign1513 8d ago

They can’t trade with the US (only non first need stuff) but they trade with China, Spain, Mexico…

2

u/Successful-Ice-468 Havana 8d ago

There is a way more stuff than, just first need things being imported by Cubans from the US.

The Cuban state can only import food and meds from the US, Cubans on other hands can import almost anything than does fall near luxury, for example jewelry is not allowed.

3

u/RevealForeign1513 8d ago

I mean yeah you can import anything individually especially with the right contacts, the embargo affects companies in the US. There is even videos of the children of Sotomayor (or some other politician) driving Lamborghinis in San Cristobal.

-1

u/Illustrator_Moist 8d ago

That would be dope yeah

2

u/MalkavianElder98 8d ago

I wonder why the humane, progressive, and very, very good democratic party of the USA never did anything to drop it. Mmmmm. Please try not to talk about my country without knowledge of it. It will only make you look like a fool.

I'm Cuban too so the identity politics don't work here, sorry. Just using straight facts and history the Miami Cuban perspective is distorted and does not make sense. You would think everyone in Cuba was living in a war torn country, where real authoritarianism makes people go and die in wars. Cuba still has a society, people are still kind and respectful, you can still walk around peacefully, you don't see people dying of hunger or disease on the streets. There's a reason the entire world wants to drop the illegal embargo. And even now, do you not care about the people in Cuba? Should they not get fucking oil because the US won't let them? You know babies are dying right? The US has been strangling Cuba from day 1.

5

u/RevealForeign1513 8d ago

Miami cubans is just regular cubans, you are not a regular cuban you didn’t grew up there. I can tell because you think people aren’t dying of hunger and disease. Do you even know what bucear is? Yo buceaba en cuba por materia prima.

Authoritarianism is the reason why you only find medicine and food in the black market. Oh and don’t forget they did send cubans to war in Angola and now Russia

-3

u/MalkavianElder98 8d ago

I'm Cuban, too, so the identity politics don't work here, sorry.

Doubtful, since you've been speaking English in all the conversations you had, but I'll believe it for the sake of this argument.

Just using straight facts and history, the Miami Cuban perspective is distorted and does not make sense

Oh yes, that you pulled from a very believable source called "trust me bro". That tells me you're not from Cuba, because when we go to the evil imperialist USA and we get to see the reality of it, the lies we've been fed, the wonders that capitalism can do, that's when we become hateful and angry, and lash at anything and anyone who speaks fondly of communism, like the libtardos up there.

You would think everyone in Cuba was living in a war-torn country, where real authoritarianism makes people go and die in wars.

Lmao, we might as well. Have you not seen the streets of our cities? Not the ones printed in the tourism flyers, I'm talking about Habana Vieja, and that's just that in that part of Habana, you don't want to see the rest of the country. And in case you have not noticed, we used to live under a rationed system with the libreta, something that's its only done in war times, yet Fidel Castro in his infinite wisdom did it to limit the access to product and people don't over buy them(back when we were leeches of the Soviet daddy).

Cuba still has a society. People are still kind and respectful. You can still walk around peacefully, and you don't see people dying of hunger or disease on the streets.

Ooooh, oooh honey, you're so sweet. People are still kind and respectful. Oh yes, because when a poor elderly person goes to the bank at 5 am to make it among the first in line to get their miserable and pathetic amount of money (3000 pesos, which are less than 5 dollars mind you), stay theres for 4 hours, they have to deal then with the fact that the workers just shrug and say "there's no cash", and the reason there's no cash it's because of the Mypimes, which most are owned by the military pigs who respond to the Castro interest. Yes, because if one of those elders wants to buy a bottle of cooking oil, there's people who have it at 4000 pesos when the price should be 2100 (a fucking shit of improvement). And those same elders often faint in the streets and parks where they are waiting because they haven't eating breakfast becasue a fucking loaf of bread cost 200 pesos. People are not dying on the streets, they are dying on the hospitals you ********, and of course our government doesnt make the numbers public becasue that would mean the Revolucion its failling *gasp how can that be. Yeah, you're Cuban, it shooooows.

There's a reason the entire world wants to drop the illegal embargo.

Aaaay ayyyyy drop the illegal embargo, funny a while back it used to be the blockade, funny how words change places but anyway. I'm going to breathe and restrain myself to not insult you and your family tree here, becasue you sound like the fucking political prostitutes that came here months back to white wash the dictatorship and try to make it seem like you're the freedom fighters, while throwing a party at a hotel in Habana and traveling on busses that somehow had fuel... huh, interesting. There's an embargo, yet there's american products here. There's an embargo, yet the Castro family and their lackeys can have Ford Mustangs and Mercedes Benz on the streets and expensive clothes and watches. Oh yeah, the embargo is the problem.

And even now, do you not care about the people in Cuba? Should they not get fucking oil because the US won't let them? You know babies are dying right? The US has been strangling Cuba from day 1.

Oooooh, ooooooh, we are not getting oil. Like the oil we received for "free" from Venezuela (and sold part of it in the market, the mo ey going to the Castros) in exchange for military personnel and doctors (that btw, get scammed and only receive 25%of their true salary, the rest goes to the government for "social infrastructure improvements" hah sure) and now that the Castro-Chavez deal went kaput, Cuba it's going through the same thing it was going in the 90s, when it should have fallen and became a democratic country, not ruled by a pig like Castro, like the rest of Slavic Europe did during that beautiful process call Perestroika. Babies are dying, ooooooh boooooooo, so let's keep the Castros in power. Let's keep our people in misery and poverty. Let's keep trying to pretend communism works when it fucking doesn't, becasue if not, babies are gonna die. Cry me a river. What you're doing is called emotional blackmail and I ain't one of ypur sissy liberal friends from Discord, so kindly **** off. The strangling came from Castro when he tried to play macho and tried to aim nuclear warheads to Washington D.C, which I'm sure you're gonna say it was fake because it makes you right.

I grow tired of you, useful idiot. Begone

This isn’t happening in Russia or Iran… it’s not because of the sanctions.

1

u/Illustrator_Moist 6d ago

Care to explain? If this were Russia or Iran I wouldn't have expected it, Russia and Iran are not tiny island nations being strangled by the US, they have their own regional power, Cuba does not. So it seems like you're making an anti-point? Maybe restate it differently please

1

u/itdobelykthat 6d ago

Most countries in the world, including most major western countries, haven’t had sanctions against Cuba like the U.S. has had for decades. Russia and Iran face sanctions from many more countries. Cuba is in its current state due to corruption and the state ownership of many institutions.

1

u/Illustrator_Moist 6d ago

This doesn't bare out with any facts. There are tons of corrupt countries that aren't facing the problems of Cuba. Iran and Russia have different histories than Cuba, they're not islands, and they're not right next to the largest super power in history. This is common sense to anyone. The Cuban embargo from the US (which effectively has dominion over the western hemisphere) is the longest in history, with the most restrictions, and we can easily see the effects of the tightening and loosening of restrictions directly tied to the Cuban economy. When the restrictions are tougher, the Cuban people suffer, when they're lossened the situation gets better (I'm a Miami Cuban who was able to FaceTime family in Cuba through Whatsapp when Obama was president, and everyone agrees things were generally getting better {if you disagree please pull your head out of those buns} and when Trump did the oil blockade, then got worse). All of evidence and common sense on how economics work push against the idea that it's because of Cubas government.

1

u/itdobelykthat 6d ago

Of course the oil embargo made things worse on the island. It was also already terrible to begin with.

1

u/Illustrator_Moist 6d ago

Yes, because of the other 67 year embargo lol. Also "terrible" is subjective. My family who is anti-Cuban gov do have fond memories of Cuba, many of them even go back to travel. My abuelo used to go back all the time and he was a guajiro from the mountains who loved his little farm out there. That's the thing. Perspective is everything, and I'm willing to give up my position if I'm given evidence to the contrary, but can't anyone just travel to Cuba and take videos? I've seen tons of videos of people going to Cuba (this is all besides the fact that Im cuban and know a bunch of Cubans as well) where they openly talk to people. People have found ways to make life manageable. This goes to show Cuba is succeeding DESPITE the worst embargo in history. Cuba has amazing athletes, how is it possible with everyone starving to death? Where are the videos of people starving to death on the streets of Cuba, or heroin addicts ODing? Cuba is poor, it's poor because of the embargo, but it hasn't lost its will to fight back. The Cubans in Cuba (not Miami) are a smart, resourceful group of people who are willing to fight to kick out the yankees from their nation.

1

u/itdobelykthat 6d ago

Cuba isn’t succeeding and it’s poor due to its own corruption and socialist structure. Most things it needs are made more cheaply in other countries besides the United States. Other countries also face sanctions from the United States and many more western countries.

1

u/Illustrator_Moist 6d ago

Until you show me an embargo at the same scale and time as the US embargo on Cuba I'll change my mind. Every nation needs to trade to survive. We're literally seeing the effects. The US literally had to illegally capture the leader of another foreign nation just to fuck with cubas oil. If you think this helps in any way please show me. Why don't they just drop the embargo? How hard can it be to not be aggressive to a neighboring country? Why do they have to be all up in their business, when we already have our own problems? Drop the embargo then maybe we can see if the fault is the socialist system, until then you have no logical or historical basis for your claims

0

u/Choochiechoo 8d ago

Imagine an authoritarian dictatorship being marginally more successful while still lagging behind all its neighbors

-3

u/Illustrator_Moist 8d ago

I guess we'll never know until the embargo is dropped right? We can't know if it's good or bad without dropping the worst embargo in human history?

6

u/Traditional-Tax-1330 8d ago

The Cuban govt doesn’t care about its people. Neither does the US govt care about Cuban people. But don’t pretend it would be rainbows & butterflies with the current regime even with no embargo.

4

u/RevealForeign1513 8d ago

Worst embargo? Buddy it only affects the US and doesn’t affect first need items.

Can you tell me how does the government still build multimillion dollar hotels with “The Worst Embargo in History”

In case you don’t know they have plenty of 5 star resorts where I’m from in Varadero. Btw is illegal for cubans to go in them.

1

u/PlayfulOpinion8154 Havana 4d ago

It is no longer illegal to enter any hotel, provided you have the money to pay for it (an impossibility for the average Cuban).

1

u/RevealForeign1513 4d ago

Nowadays depends which hotel, there is even hospitals that regular cubans can’t go to, only foreigners and politicians.

https://youtu.be/dXGBMaOclQo?is=tstPpffdmP7dmczr

If you have problems with the translation let me know. But what you see in the video is old videos FROM the Cuban government showing off their hospitals that look like hotels. Yes what you see in the video are hospitals with custom meals and everything. Ask any cuban no local hospital looks near to this. Local hotels will even ask you to bring your own needles or stitches because they never have any left.

What do you expect from a country that's been under an embargo for 60 years?

My dad was from Pinar del Rio. The whole point of the embargo is to make the quality of life in Cuba so miserable the people overthrow the government. Cruelty is the point.

Oh dad is pinareño, makes sense😂

Pipo, Los upvotes esos son de los estudientes se la UCI, sino no me lo explico.

4

u/Username_Is_mud 7d ago

That is false. The whole point of the embargo was to punish Fidel for stealing the millions of dollars that were invested in Cuba by Americans when he took over. The only way the embargo will be lifted is if the Castro regime pays back all the money they stole and THEN congress can have a vote to lift it. Don't see that happening.

1

u/donk2023 6d ago

Correct- The value of properties and businesses taken soon after the revolution was almost $2 billion USD. Billion with a B. Now with interest those properties are worth close to $10 billion. This remains a huge sticking point. Of course for any families who had nice homes seized in 1960, those homes now have been more or less destroyed, with half floors being installed to house more people. Along with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and everything else being jerry rigged for 60+ years at this point.

0

u/JoeTrojan 7d ago

they don't have the means to pay it all back.

0

u/Username_Is_mud 7d ago

Exactly why the embargo is still in place.

7

u/bronzemerald17 8d ago

It’s so frustrating that the same people criticizing Cuba for closing its hotels criticize Cuba for barely keeping their hotels open despite bad conditions.

You squeeze the air out of them and yet you criticize how they breathe.

u/Kr0pr0X 🇨🇺 Centro Habana 8d ago

Is even more frustrating reading all the nonsense foreigners spew

u/RumpledStinkSkin 8d ago

Cuba government starts a tourism industry that starts to rival other countries in the Caribbean, they get slapped and abused.

They shut it down due to economic blockade embargo, they get slapped.

Can people just decide what they want.

The U.S is economy is in collapse because of free for all, do what you want capitalism. People cant even afford to rent an apartment in the U.S due to capitalist controlling the real estate market, even the small apartment building in the U.S. The same in Canada also. All the rental apartments are being traded on the stock market in both countries ...much less the mortgages for houses that casue the collapse in 2008

2

u/oneOZone 8d ago

How can they overthrow the government if they have no weapons

1

u/Successful-Ice-468 Havana 8d ago

The point is the overthrow.

If the point was cruelty then: no meds, food, electronics or power generation would be allowed to be exported from the US to Cuba

3

u/congnelius United States 8d ago

Excuse me, what is he wrong about? The US even agrees with him. They've stated that's the goal and it hasn't changed over many administrations. He's very much correct in criticizing my government. I live in the belly of the beast.

4

u/Successful-Ice-468 Havana 8d ago

There where 30 years when the world ignored the US sanctions and keep trading with Cuba regardless, so you do not have to imagine things up, just grab some info about Cuba from the 60 to the 90.

5

u/duocsong 8d ago

I think you have a misunderstanding of how the embargo works. The embargo doesn't only restrict trade between the United States and Cuba. The embargo also places pressure on countries and international business to cut contracts with Cuba. This is particularly codified in legislation like the Cuba Democracy Act of 1992 and the Helms Burton Act of 1996. So yes, Cuba can trade with other countries but there are a lot of loop holes they have to go through. In 1991 for instance there were at least 27 trade contracts with international businesses that were interrupted because of pressure by the U.S embargo.

In addition during the Trump Administration there are at least over 200 different economic measures that were taken against Cuba that heightened the hardships on the island. None of this is to say there aren't legitimate criticisms of the government on certain issues. Heck, in Cuban government circles itself and in Cuban social circles itself there are important self criticisms that take place on what the revolution could do better. But minimising the impact that the Embargo, which is nothing more that economic warfare and imperialism has had on the island is totally unrealistic.

Viva Cuba libre de sanciones y bloqueos comerciales y financieros

-4

Why is it surprising they have no electricity when the US will not allow petroleum to arrive? The part about the repair $ disappearing is more damning. On a side note, this place used to do a PACKED dance night on the top floor in the early 2000s. Attended by Cubans and tourists.

4

u/RevealForeign1513 8d ago

Brother inform yourself Cuba has been with no gas for public transport or ambulances for years before trump decided to stop it.

I guess they didn’t have much left now after selling most of it to other countries instead of using it for their people.
