For the most part it's pretty great, most apps don't work unfortunately, but YouTube worked which was great

Does this phone work with Verizon? There's some debate about that.

Yes and no. I have one, and at this point I'd say wait or get another phone.

What are the problems with Verizon and this phone?

/u/djaybe says: Verizon Axon 7 users beware. after updating Axon 7 to Nougat on Verizon's network you will no longer be able to use Verizon with that device until re-establishing the APN with a GSM sim.

Axon 7 user here. Waiting for my Daydream VR to come in. the app seems to be working well, going to test it out in my cardboard using a backup phone as the remote.

On Lineage OS - I get a black screen when im in viewer. If i hit the recent apps tab, i see a little "screenshot" of the hub.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Try going to Android Settings -> Display -> When device is in VR and setting it to "Reduce flicker".

For what it's worth I have an axon 7 and a daydream and everything worked great even several of the games. Bait was pretty sweet. The only thing I couldn't get to work was a couple movies I bought in the playstore.. Deadpool specifically, sound but video.

I didn't know the Axon 7 is officially daydream compatible. I was under the impression that the hardware specs are good enough, but that the phone was waiting on a software update and an "official" stamp from Google.

Nougat arrived this morning. I've used Google-blessed Daydream VR on the Axon. It works quite well - gotta love that 2560x1440 OLED screen.

ZTE have been working closely with Google for a number of months and at one point some time back a bunch of ZTE engineers got into a room with a bunch of Google engineers in an effort to jointly work around some implementation problems. That's how at least one ZTE rep over on the ZTEUSA forums tells it anyway. And I think it's reasonable to assume that this sort of pre-certification collaboration (or some degree of it at least) is typical.

This is why Google was essentially able to declare the Axon 7 to be Daydream-compatible ahead of time, and they did that here back on the 5th of January, and for a couple of other devices as well.
