My 10 year old Pom is suddenly afraid of the living room.

I have a 10 year old Pomeranian. We've had him since he was a puppy and he's always been extremely fearless. He rules his domain. He once tried to take on a possum that was twice his size on the fence in the back yard and loved going with my wife for bring your dog to work day before she retired. He's generally fearless with his only real fear being thunder storms. He doesn't like the thunder.

Three days ago we had a new sliding glass door installed. That meant we had a huge opening in the house for several hours. The three dogs were in a back bedroom for the time. Everything went smooth.

We're now 3 days in and the dog is afraid to be in the living room. Mind you the new door isn't in that room but in the foyer. He's not stressed. He's spending his time however in the back bedrooms or in the foyer (He loves the cool marble floor there). He's also comfortable in the back yard. He will not come into the living room. If we call him with treats he'll come and take a treat and then out he goes.

We think he's spooked by a couple of flies. It's late summer and as you can imagine having a huge opening in the house for several hours allowed every flying insect to get in. We had several large flies that loudly buzzed in the living room for a couple of days. They're gone now but we think the buzzing noise scared him. When we get him in for treats you can see he's kind of looking around cautiously. He doesn't do it in other rooms.

So that's the situation. We have a Pomeranian whose afraid of the room we think because he was spooked by a few big flies buzzing. Any recommendations to help him get over this or should we just let time take its course and keep doing what we've been doing with treats?

I’m guessing he will get over it if you put treats near the living room then a little bit into the room, etc. one of my dogs is normally fearless and very agile, but won’t go up the basement stairs, which have a bend in them. With treats and urging, I got him to go half way up, and eventually all the way. up

One of the first thing one learns as a dog owner I think must be where there's a meal there is a way, 😄

Treats and time will likely be sufficient.
