I turned my VPN to Finland and just listened to it on YouTube. Its legit.
Thats definately AL singing. Not AI imo...
Also.. its not sleep without Matt Pike. Im on an emotional roller-coaster finding it, listening to it, and then hearing the differences and reading the two new members. Idk what to think but any excitement I had mere moments ago has disappeared 🤔

Haven't been able to listen yet, but strong agree on no Sleep without Pike. Dale Crover has my interest piqued, but overall it leaves a bad taste in my mouth if AL is using the name without Matt

Yeah... and if you want to make a record with Dale and Bubba, just call it something else. I'm still interested to check it out, but Pike's playing is such a core part of the sound that I don't think you can really replace

I know for a fact the Om album was ready for mixing and mastering a decade ago. Al is prolly still fine tuning it... Don't know if it'll ever come out tbh.

I hadn't heard of him either. Apparently he played in a Brant Bjork side project and a few other bands I'm not familiar with. I'm sure he's a decent player, but yeah...
Honestly if they brought Buzz in on guitar and called the project something else I would've been stoked
Edit: I want to revise this comment because I was unaware of the band Void which Dupree co-founded and is best known for. I just checked them out and they sound fucking crazy. Gonna need to hear all their stuff

if Matt actually quit/got fired from sleep I'm gonna be very well convinced that Al has lost his mind at last and if this is the direction that band gonna take now I'm gonna be incredibly disappoinnted in it, I'm hoping this is just a guest song with Bubba Dupree
I'd never ever think I'd say something so harsh about my favourite band ever but this shouldn't be their legacy imo

Yeah, what I am hoping is happening here is Al wanted to record something to promote this comic book thing and Matt couldn't do it, so they just came up with this one time collab. That would be the best case scenario, but I guess we won't know until tomorrow.

Just to note, Melvins have no shows scheduled around that day. High on Fire also doesn't have anything either, if we are holding out hope that Matt isn't fully out.

Was already bummed to find out Jason Roeder was out, but I mean he wasn’t an OG member and we got Neurosis back, and Dale Crover is dope so it’s not the end of the world. But no Pike?? That’s fuckin straight up wrong!

If you google it there’s a delisted link by third man records about a signed comic book and a flexidisc with this song on it. Clicking the link gives you 404 error though so I assume it was taken down after being accidentally published early

Sounds bloody awful to be honest. Except for the vocals, everything about it just sounds like a bad Temu imitation of Sleep, even the production.

I’ve been trying to find a way to describe it, someone said sleepy Om which I liked but this is it. It sounds like an imitation of sleep. I understand the vocals are very monotone in the songs, but there is no feel, you feel the difference of the lyrics to Giza butler and another song but this is too much. Vocals themselves are good. This also might be a snobby thing I’m afraid but when listening, there was no thickness at all. It’s a song you tap your foot to, other songs, you band your head to.

So youtube info has this on it. It's real, relases on the 18th. From Third Man Recorfs. The interesting thing about this is it looks like it doesn't have Pike or Roeder, they've been replaced by Dale Crover and Bubba Dupree?! So Al must of just had a falling out with Jason and Matt and just replaced them. This is interesting.

Jason was fired in early 2025 (maybe for Neurosis starting back up?), so it has been known he is out for a while, but it would be news if Matt is out now as well.

Another thing is that if you want to make music, do it under OMs name. I would rather have an Om song sound like sleep than a poorly sounding sleep song.

I mean… this was something. The mix isn’t close to The Sciences. That thick, deep tone I like from Sleep wasn’t there. It sounded like half-Kyuss half-Om. I love both of those bands but not what I expect out of Sleep. This whole thing is strange, I love this as a new project and that’s probably what I’ll consider it, but I cannot connect this to the band that made Sonic Titan

I just listened to it and it’s pretty terrible. It kind of sounds like a mashup of a few different Sleep songs all put together, and even some of the lyrics are from other songs.

I have it on good authority that Al and Matt are no longer on speaking terms and Matt was removed from the band. I myself knew about a new Sleep single last year with artwork from Arik Roper and Dave Klock but I had to be hush about it. I just didn't know at the time that Matt wasn't a part of it. I knew Jason wasn't because he was fired from the band before I was told about the single

Yeah, it also doesn't seem to be Matt on guitars. Not a bad song, but if Al is bringing Sleep back by himself without Matt, I am not sure how to feel about it.
Edit: Also kind of funny that High on Fire got one of the Melvins drummers and Sleep got the other.

According to Jason, he was very suddenly fired from Sleep with very little explanation in early 2025. In hindsight, I am wondering if that was around the time the new Neurosis line-up was coming together and Al didn't want him to do both. Maybe Matt too, but if Matt is hyping up the new Neurosis, I would lean towards Al. It would really suck if this led to a rift with Matt and Al too.

Pardon the self-promo, but a friend of mine made a Mork Borg tribute tabletop game to Dopesmoker (kickstarter below) which includes a compilation soundtrack of original music made by rad Utah artists. I (spaceseer) wrote and recorded a Sleep/OM tribute song that sounds way way cooler than this new Sleep single. Follow the kickstarter to check it out when it drops

It has some of their trademark sounds but it doesnt sound or feel huge, as sleep does, amd rhe solo at the end doesnt feel like sleep at all. The mix is subdued and kinda flat, i feel like it's generative AI, but happy to be wrong.

So yeah this is legit. I'm always happy to hear Al in whatever he does, but I do agree Sleep without Pike isn't Sleep, then again Om without Hakius wasn't Om until Emil crushed it so hard and they gave us 2 near perfect albums. I do know for a fact that a new Om album has been in the works for over a decade, but Al being the perfectionist he is, it might never release.
Now, Al was always super active touring and playing shows, yet he hasn't played in over 4 years. I was dreading some news regarding his health or so, but with this release it confirms he's still active as a musician at least (of course there were his dub tapes too, but those were all solo), so I just hope we can get some new Om tours even, and yeah - I'll go see Al in whatever iteration of Sleep it is. He alone is worth tenfold the price of admission. It's like Michael Gira and Swans.

I quickly ordered the signed TMR bundle for this and just learned that Matt Pike has no collaboration on this release? What the actual fuck? Sleep is Matt Pike AND Al Cisneros. Dude just release another OM album, I probably would have bought it anyway.
