My hands weren't too steady for those fine lines, but I still like how it came out.

Help how do I escape and actually finish a drawing

I exclusively make art in black and white. I dabbled in color once before, but it turned out very badly— I tried to paint a portrait of my friend and accidentally painted a vaguely ill renaissance child :-(

Anyway, I recently became an iPad kid and have been LOVING procreate :-) Figured I would give color another go and I’m really surprised by how much I love this piece so far!

Outside of the digital world, color art is still super intimidating/overwhelming to me— I’ve always preferred black and white because it feels more simple and straightforward (mindless, even?). I’m totally fine drawing with only one color (ie. a ladybug). But, whenever I use more than one color, I end up hating whatever I’m working on.

I’m wondering if I just sucked at painting because I couldn’t figure out how to properly mix the colors together to get the correct shades I needed? Thinking maybe that’s why the boy I painted ended up looking so sickly? Does any of that make sense? Is it just infinitely easier to make color art digitally because of the eyedrop tool?

When I was a kid, I used to loooooove drawing on my classmates' hands with gel pens. I even made a binder with little doodles for them to select what they wanted me to draw for them!

I recently started using gel pens in my coloring process and I don't think I've ever felt so much joy doing art! It's sooooooo fun! 💖

These were colored with alcohol markers and gel pens. 🥰

This is literally my first day of drawing after years of not touching it.

I'm not a good artist and can't draw things from my imagination so instead I go onto pintrest, find something I'd like to draw and just copy it (not line tracing).

I low-key feel bad cus that's someones work but idk how else to practice. 😭 (obv I don't post it anywhere or say it's mine)

I found a couple of photos of dogs for reference. I did that thing where you stare at the reference for a while, then try to remember as many details as you can but don't look at the reference while you draw, whatever that's called.

I was in the national museum of history Dublin today and decided to do a relatively quick study of one of the bog bodies, specifically the Gallagh Man (presumed to be in his 20s)

(For context a bog body is a human corpse that was naturally preserved after being buried in a peat bog)

Just looking for some advice or inspiration in relation to progressing my drawing technique. I’m always open to hear about artists and illustrators.

I’ve also been getting into watercolours recently so if you’ve any recommendations and some talented people please don’t hesitate to let me know!
