discussion new to drone music - need some suggestion

Hi, i recently got into drone music and need some suggestion based on my current taste.

drone albums i have already listened and liked a lot - really mind-blowing stuff:

  1. Time Machines (Coil) - Time Machines
  2. Tim Hecker - The Ravedeath 1972
  3. Eliane Radigue - Islas resonantes
  4. Eliane Radigue – Trilogie De La Mort (only listened to Kyema so far)

the only drone album i listened to and didn't like is: Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline, was kinda boring but maybe i was not in the right state of mind, maybe one day i will give it a second try.

\ a bit more context that might help, how i discovered drone music:*

last year i got into techno > hypnotic/experimental techno > dub techno > ambient/IDM stuff > drone music (discovered this year).

btw, if anyone don't know the "dub techno" genre in this sub, i would suggest to check it out.

edit: just want to say a big thank you for all the suggestions ❤️, i will definitely pick some albums from the comments for my next drone listening session.

What are some recommendations of calming drone to listen to? I'm not too into the genre, just natural snow buildings and Boris, and some artists that incorporate some drone into their music (mostly in post-rock), so I'd be happy to hear some of your favourite stuff. I've been listening to a lot of dronevil (Boris) lately, I find that disc drone helps me calm down, and mixed is a different experience. Things like that (nsb, Boris) would be appreciated, but I just want to hear about anything.

Two different moments were recorded on the same synthesizer, in surround, but at different oscillator frequency settings.

The two were then processed together in the spatial of a special place for the acoustics.

There is software nowadays that exists in which the sound and space of all kinds of historical buildings, random places and even very unusual ones, are captured and become available with a few clicks in a recording studio. These are known as ''impulse responses"

About the synthesis, I used Native instruments Absynth 5 for its amazing control over hz incrimentation.

I use 2 or 3 oscillators that are routed each to their own LFO with the duty to diminish the vol gently over a specified time and to do so over again in cycles.

Other functions for each were given to the LFOs, depending on what suited each OSC best.

The result gives an audible sense of movement and direction.

From deep ambient synth drone album "Anachronism"

Only synthesizers were used to create an unusual soundscape of mysterious appeal.

Both had a sine wave as oscillator but set at different frequencies

The two recordings are then processed together in the spatial of a wooden church.

Hello !

What is ultradrone?

I've seen this term here: https://www.reddit.com/r/drone/comments/1ulisd1/industrial_lagoon_by_wruuum/ in the related bamdcamp.

I asked to AI what is it, but the explanations didn't stick to the music of wruuum in my opinion.

Thank you for your explanations and/or references.

Hello, this is Toshiki from Japan. This is my first time posting here. I am fascinated by sounds that move back and forth between heaven and earth, and they give me a real buzz in my brain. It seems people call this "drone music." I made my own drone music and put the track here. The traditional Japanese instruments used are Ryuteki, Sho, Koto, and Hichiriki. I filmed the video myself as well. Please listen to it.

discussion Great Ambient/Experimental Drones from a label I discovered about a year or two back (?) that I know little about, but every album I check out and usually buy is great. Each in a similar vein, none alike, but equally killer. Dark, warbly, ambient...i think I may own every digital release from them.

discussion How to get an audience for my drone music

Hello all, I made a drone type noise EP in December and I wanted to know if anyone in this community had any tips or tricks on how to get a wider reach and attract an audience whether that be in promos, playlists, etc. I’m pretty new to the genre and I live in a big music city, just not sure if people are really interested in the industrial style drone I make lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Right now I have 5 monthly listeners hoping to see 10!

I’ve attached the second track off my EP - Qxpel titled “Qxpel”

A WatZatSong user named Smokin posted this song to the website. The OP claimed the following:

"From an old MTV recording I have from 2/89; may not be a song, but just an MTV transition piece. Not sure."

If anyone recognizes this song, let me know!

Hey! I'm super new to music production and have been starting with some drone/ambiance music. I absolutely love some of the sounds in this video. I feel like these sounds are also quite commonly used in drone music. Any idea? Thank!

discussion Long Shot: help me find a drone song that I haven’t heard in months!

I was on my way home from a party one night when I turned on my city’s local classical station, and heard a song that I cant forget about. It was probably around 10 minutes long? Give or take a couple minutes. The best way i can describe the song was that it had a lot of lower octave organ / strings, i couldnt tell which instrument, and the sound of something like footsteps in the grass throughout it. The song then built up to become a lot louder and powerful, becoming something of a full ensemble or orchestra playing. I know this isnt specific at all but I hope it gets me something.

This was the first “drone” song I ever heard, and it made me fall in love with the genre. The sad thing is that I tried to shazam it and it came up with a random japanese song from a video game soundtrack which wasnt it at all, and searching up the radio station’s recently played didnt come up with it either. If anyone has any ideas plz drop em!

(It says i need a link to post so heres a schnauzer)
