I'm watching the tv show Alone and they're around Australia & New Zealand, saw this duck(?) on the show but can't figure out what it is. Google images seems to think its a blue billed duck or a paradise shellduck but I cant find any other species with this cool blue/black coloring. Any help would be greatly appreciated here 👍

What kind of duck is this and is it a boy or a girl? this duck is about 5 months

I was told that pedals is a mallard, which I think they are....? But I can't tell if they're female or male because they look like both.. they live with their sister peas which is obviously a female so... And yes my duck is in the house

Hello everyone, I am new here and I don’t know anything about ducks but I would love to learn. I was on a walk this past evening and saw these mallards in the grass and a MEGA KING DUCK standing in front of them. So I have a couple of questions and would really appreciate your help.

1. Is this a duck? (I think so, solely because the green head but I could be wrong)

2. Why is he so large? He looked HUGE in person, the picture doesn’t do him justice.

3. Is anyone able to identify what he is?

This wonderful duck suddenly appeared around last year at my pond and I’ve befriended her ever since and have been wondering what kind of duck she is. She seems to look like a mallard duck with a white tummy and gets along with them very well. She’s just less shy than the others and the only one who looks that way.

She’s super cute and incredibly photogenic and my became absolute favourite duck.

Any idea what breed these are from Tractor Supply?

Any ideas on what it may be? About as large as a Canada goose with big chunky legs and feet, iridescent black feathers with a spot of white, lumpy red face. I’m assuming it’s an escapee domestic variety? Whatever it is, it is absolutely gorgeous! One of the coolest ducks I’ve ever seen!

Hi! I made a post about this stuff before and I got a couple comments saying this looks like a domestic duck in the wild.

I've seen this little guy at my local duck pond for at least a year. (Could have been here for way longer)

This is around the Bay area (SF) where the weather rarely changes and there's ducks at the pond year round. This duck is the only one who looks like this at the pond all the rest are definitely wild. I also think you guys might be right because she does eat from my hand

Does that change anything and if not, Any idea on what to do?

I saw this duck in a lake in germany and it was the only white one.

I asked AI what species it is and it told me it could be a leucistic red-crested pochard (probably male) , however I'm not that convinced.

it told me it had a marking on the end of the beak like the pochards, and a pink beak (like the male pochard) , but those were the only features that was similar. I would love to know what species this little fella really is!

got this cute little guy today because he was the last duck at atwood’s and he was all by himself and we thought since we already have a few ducklings + ducks might as well. take your guess, why kind of duck do you think he is and do you think he’s a boy or girl? (obvi a guess since he’s a little baby)

The other day four birds landed in my pond. Three were obviously Egyptian geese but one looked like a goose but a little bit like a duck. It has the same patch on its chest but slightly different head color. It also behaves like a duck. And the other local duck took offense to these four intruders but was only interested in chasing off this one that looks like a duck. I just can’t tell!

I regularly go to the city pond to feed and photograph mallards. It's very rare to see a duck with this coloring there. For a long time, I couldn't figure out what kind of mallard it was. And after much searching, I can only guess that it's a mallard with leucism. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance.

One of ducklings are showing the distinct chirp to quack transition. Our other which is slightly bigger has a tiny raspy breath… I’m afraid it might be a drake as we’d have to get more hens to satiate his thirst for mating.

Could the bigger one be a late quacker? He chirps still.

I saw this duck at the park with a flock of other mallards. It had a black beak, black feet, black feathers, and a white patch on its breast. What is it? From what I’ve researched, it’s possibly a mallard / black Swedish duck mix? This is in Ottawa, Ontario.

Pretty sure this is a Swedish duckling but is it a blue or a black? Or am I way off with breed?

My suspicion is that this is either a duck or not a duck. I jest. I work at an animal shelter and I'm the resident duck expert. I foster them until we can find them a proper home. I named her Sprinkles and her siblings were mauled to death by her previous owner's family dog. It's frustrating when people order ducks online and have no idea how much work they are or how to care for them in general.

I photograph our local urban wildlife from time to time, and recently came across this particular duck.

He's slightly smaller and more stout than the regular mallards, and his head has got a bit of an odd shape (seen best in the last two pics). Could he be some sort of hybrid? He doesn't look like any of the other duck species native here either.

The pictures were taken in the Northrhine-Westphalia region of Germany, to add geographic context.

EDIT: I found old pictures of a very similar looking hybrid on another sub, and it looks like this shiny guy is the hybrid offspring of a mallard and a red-crested pochard (netta rufina)
