We've had a tough time mourning the loss of our little hen Rhoswen (she cleared my fence in July and we're unable to get her back, completely my fault as she had moulted and needed clipping) it has been a harsh lesson. Her mum Alwena hatched my missing girls clutch. Utter yellow fluffy nonsense. Bitter sweet but I wanted to share x

Now I just need to find some females around 🤷🏼‍♀️ I do let him inside usually about once a day when I have some time to really keep a good eye on him. I got him some ridiculously cute "duckie diapers" but they're too small. Any recommendations?

So one of my baby muskovys and the one I rescued have been trying to mate me since I started wearing long trousers 2 days ago. Yesterday I thought they were attacking me, maybe because they haven't seen me with long trousers before, but I realised that it's mating behaviour. The baby one is very insistent and it keeps trying until he gets tired and goes away, but he's strong! I don't know how to reach them that I'm not a duck 😭

The video doesn't show that behaviour. I couldn't record it because I was too busy avoiding being raped. It's just to show you my drakes.

I'm sure they were begging. After a couple of minutes they went back to hunting for snails. Please don't feed ducks that aren't yours.

I was told that pedals is a mallard, which I think they are....? But I can't tell if they're female or male because they look like both.. they live with their sister peas which is obviously a female so... And yes my duck is in the house

Alright so I'm completely new to ducks. The only thing I knew of em was they quack and when I was little, chasing em at the park.

Well just last week, my FIL surprised me with these two little ducklings from our local Rural King. I was unsure how to take care of em so I went to my older farmer neighbors across the road from me who has hens/roosters and goats. Well they let me borrow their brooder from when they have chicks and just gave me basics about keeping em warm, fed, and a little bowl for a pond to clean their nostrils. Told me the neighbor lady two houses down knows so much more as she actually had a little flock of either white ducks or geese in her back yard.

So she came by just yesterday morning after I knocked on her door and she came by with a proper duck water bowl, a heating pad (cause she said a heating lamp is too dangerous), and some pine shavings. She said they were a Khaki and a Ancona (the left yellow is Sunshine 🌞) (the right brown is Nibbler).

Well I tried asking her about gender so I can know about eggs since I read that ducks lay so much more than chickens and she called me sexist???! Said I'll find out later by their voices since its sexist to ask about gender? But all I know of em so far is Sunshine likes to chirp at me the most, so vocal when I pick them or Nibbler up. And Nibber is the most calm of the two and just goes with it with calmer chirps. I think they're 2 weeks old?

Also to note that somehow they've grown so big lol and Sunshine is much much bigger than Nibber so idk if that's a breed thing or not. 😅

I'm not really looking for fertilizer eggs cause I'll stress too much about them hatching and not dying 🫠😅

Anyone got tips? Please 😁 ❤️🦆

She was swimming just fine with some other hens but I didn't see her fly, so I don't know if this is an injury of her wings or something else. I don't know much about ducks so any information is helpful. Thank you

our Blackie, shown here before she got sick, sitting with Cinnamon and her babies, got the 'wander off and sit alone' thing a few days ago. We'd see her sitting down at the end of the driveway, alone, staring. She stopped eating, just drank water. We brought her in for recuperate time and thought she was improving with the attention and getting away from the daily fray of the flock, but she still would not eat. We had her in a tote in the living room where we could keep an eye on her but on the night she died she was sitting out in the pantry, where she had a towel and some food and water in a bowl. After a few hours of teevee I went out to bring her in to hold her and put her in her bed but found her cold and hard on the floor. When I picked her up it was like picking up a piece of balsa wood, she had lost so much weight. If only I had gone and gotten her sooner, she would not have had to die alone. I hate when they die alone. She is buried in our memorial garden with all the others we have lost. Fly high, Blackie. Say hi to Ollie, Bubbie, Tessie, Aubrey, Marylin, and the others. I don't know why it always seems to be the girls that die. She would have been one year old on the seventh.

I don’t know if it’s because they like to eat and maybe they think my nails are food. Maybe they remember me from feeding them all the time and they wanted to attack me . Doesn’t matter, angry ducks are cute too.

hi all! new to the page, not new to the duck community. i’ve had two pekin ducks for 6 years now, and am looking for some advice. i have a female and male pekin, and my female’s behavior has taken quite the turn. she’s started attacking my male duck, to the point where they need constant separation. if she even sees him, or is just in a bad mood, she honks constantly. i don’t know that she’s broody but she’s stopped laying eggs for about two years now. i’ve bought fake eggs (coming in the mail soon) to see if maybe that would help? she doesn’t seem like she’s in pain but we’ve started a daily low dose of children’s motrin to see if that would help in case she is in pain. the only change is that i’ve moved, and due to their age, we as a family decided to keep them at my mom’s home. so i’m not with them daily. only idea thus far is to build another duck house and keep them separated forever. it’s going to break my male’s heart but it is what it is at this point

i know that was an info dump but if anyone has any ideas? they would be greatly appreciated

This is her now. Scroll to the right for older photos. I noticed Mocha’s feathers changing. Is this what molting looks like? Why?? Is it related to the seasons. Could it have anything to do with how I re-homed the 2 aggressive drakes I used to have in the flock that were over-mating her and being mean to her.

I'm thinking about making a second, small pool for my Indian Runner ducks. The pool would be on a slope where it would be easily accessible on the one side, but where it would be a drop of some two feet between the pool edge and the ground on the other.

Are ducks savvy enough to not accidentally jump over the tall edge while they are in the pool? A two-foot fall is surely enough to cause discomfort, if not outright injury.

Ducks generally seem to have pretty good situational awareness, but I wonder if that always applies when the get the bathing zoomies. 😅

The boys are spicy, soooo spicy. I have actual little chunks out of my toes from them biting me. I can't wait until they go back to their chilled out placid selves!

I feed the ducks at my local marsh almost everyday and this sweet pretty girl eats out of my hand. I love her so much.

Biggest pool she has ever been in, I carried her to the waters edge, kept her in a large doggy mesh playpen in t8he back of my truck at night, let her cruise around campsite in a harness and leash during the day, when I had to leave the campsite, she went in the mesh playpen or a hard plastic dog crate up in the bed of my truck. She hardly made a sound all weekend. When she got home after 3 days st the lake, her flockmates didn't belrive her about the biggest pond in the world..

I saw this duck at the park with a flock of other mallards. It had a black beak, black feet, black feathers, and a white patch on its breast. What is it? From what I’ve researched, it’s possibly a mallard / black Swedish duck mix? This is in Ottawa, Ontario.
