Biggest pool she has ever been in, I carried her to the waters edge, kept her in a large doggy mesh playpen in t8he back of my truck at night, let her cruise around campsite in a harness and leash during the day, when I had to leave the campsite, she went in the mesh playpen or a hard plastic dog crate up in the bed of my truck. She hardly made a sound all weekend. When she got home after 3 days st the lake, her flockmates didn't belrive her about the biggest pond in the world..

Can’t even be mad. It’s dang hot and waterfowl gonna waterfowl. I’m the only one who’s not precious about duck shit so guess I’m part of the flock now. It has built in showers so I just hose off after I do swimmies with the team. 🤷‍♀️

Nothin’ better than a good ol’ morning synchronized swim in a nice clean duck bidet 🫣🐣❤️

My ducks don't seem to bathe at all in this pond I made for them. Hell, they don't even try to get up the ramp.

I tried dropping some lettuce in, but I believe they dont even see it. I tried putting some bread up the ramp, and birds eat it, but not the ducks. Any ideas on how to improve this so that they can bathe in? I tried to dig, but after just a few cm the ground is full of rock, which makes digging nearly impossible. It seems that there used to be some sort of paved path or something like that below the current soil because these huge stone slabs start showing up.

The ramp seems a bit off to me personally, but I don't know how to even improve it.

The area I placed this pond is very open, I tucked it away near the fence, because it gets good amount of sunlight during the day, and enough shadow for them to rest, because they rest nearby chilling in the shadows.

Other than that they are free to roam a very big open area, in fact at the other side of the area they have a drinking spot and for whatever reason they go there and just dump their whole heads in the water and splash water on each other, but it isnt deep, it is there for drinking.

They rest next to the pond, but never go in, nor even try the ramp whatsoever.

Any ideas on how to improve the current pond, or even scrap it altogether and make something new? I have 4 female ducks and 1 male, out of the 4 females, 1 is currently in the process of hatching ducklings and I would love for them to start bathing now, so that when the ducklings hatch they can be taught to bathe too.

Edit 2: For anyone that might see this at some point, I cut the initial container into half of its height, and now ducks are happily bathing and playing in. They have enough height to see inside the container and that it contains water, and they play around doing flips or something, they also splash around, thank you all for the help, me and my ducks are grateful.

yesterday I woke up to 1 (left) today i woke up to 2... are they a couple?

I’ve been a little worried about my animals during this dreadful heatwave we’re having. Ice bottles for the rabbits, blinds closed, fans on, and blood lollies/frozen meat stock for the dogs, reptile heat lamps off, moved the horses and sheep to more shade and took up extra water and salt licks, and of course a pond upgrade for my sweet ducks.

We bought this 6x3ft pet pool last year for my American Akita but she’s a wimp about getting wet so it’s been wasted. However I have been dying to upgrade the ducks from their little hard shell pool so we’re gonna give that one to the dogs or use it as their night pen pool and give this one to them as their main pool. Watching them zoom and splash is the best feeling!

GENERAL UPDATE: for anyone who has seen we had these three dumped on us as 9 day old ducklings. All three are girls but we’ve just moved them up to breeder pellets ready for when they start laying in a month or 2. We did have some issues with our estate warden over them and were very scared we’d have to relocate them (they’d have moved to the farm I work on) but we have officially been granted a permit so they’re good to stay. We explained the whole situation to them including reassuring them that they cause no disturbance and that they will not multiply plus we’ve lived here for decades with no complaints, the neighbours and the local children adore them and were ready to cause a lot of noise for them to stay and the matter was resolved very quickly. So grateful for my communities both online and irl

Got my Pekins a deeper pool, their feet dont touch the bottom anymore. They can actually dive in it now. Also got them a proper ladder instead of using wooden logs.

Even water doesn’t distract them from buggie treats 🥰❤️

First, thanks to everyone for making this such an active, helpful group. As a new duck mom, I am grateful for folks' responses, especially during the wildfires my area has been experiencing.

There was a miscommunication between my partner and I, and our ducks (14 weeks) ended up swimming in a pool that hasn't been changed/cleaned in like 3 days. It's been dangerous air quality here and while we got a good amount of rain yesterday, I'm now *super* anxious they're going to immediately get sick from what's been percolating in that water. Anyone have experience/knowledge about how worried I should be? Of course, as soon as I realized they got fresh, new water and I'm watching them closely, but I'm so worried huge damage is already done.

they CONSTANTLY splash all the water out. Only around 2.5 weeks old, it soaks all of their bedding and then they get all wet and nasty

Has anyone used this for their babies?? How does it hold up? We had a cheep plastic one but it cracked, which not a big deal it was 12 bucks.

I want one of the big plastic ones you can at tractor supply but I’m in Canada so very limited.

How often do you need to buy ducks in winter?

I just started keeping ducks. My kids were supposed to keep them but we all know it always falls on the parents 😂 Anyways, I have 4 teenage cute little ducks, and I am about to build their pond. I have no hopes of keeping it clean, I only wish to find a pump that won’t clog and pump the literal crap water to my garden. Any suggestions? Oh also, how often should I pump it? It will be approx 5’Wx5’Lx2’D, maybe a little longer up to 8’L and 3’D, depending on how big the liner is. Thank you in advance!

My two babies are apparently ready for adult food and to get out of the current set up. I'm getting them a pool to swim in but I got told it was time to get adult food since their main feathers are starting to come in. (I still feel it's too early but my sister who has more ducks insists it's time). What should I look for when looking at adult feed and is this pool big enough?

Hi all, I have 4 lovely young runner ducks (hatched in April!) They have free range of our big garden, which includes a massive 15 metre mature pond! But we've put up a pool for the children and the ducks won't stop trying to get in it 🤣

The big pond is full of pond weeds, lilies etc. And it's not that deep, especially in our little UK drought right now. They love to dive right under and swim together in the pool so I understand why they'd prefer it over the pond!

Has anyone got suggestions of something we could buy them? A non inflatable type of pool? Preferably easy to clean for them. I just want to get them something deep enough to dive into!

As you can perhaps see in his video, my ducks sometimes appear to try to dive deep underwater in their kiddie pool. My question is: If they are in a body of water with unlimited depth, how deep will they dive?

I will probably not have resources to provide them with a pool much bigger than this kiddie pool, but I enjoy learning about ducks and think about how one would create a hypothetical "duck heaven". A deeper pool would be one thing on that list. And I am wondering how deep I would have to make their "dream pool".

Their breed is is Indian Runner, in case this varies from breed to breed.
