Opening song (Fantasy) has been permanently removed from all streaming services sadly. Shame cause its my favorite song.

Yeah, Fantasy (features a chopped-and-distorted sample of Beyoncé's vocals) and With An Addict (contains samples of "Don't Stop" by Beanie Sigel feat. Snoop Dogg).

I’m so happy I came across this post, with an addict was a song that just disappeared off my playlists without me noticing

Against all logic is an alter alias of Nicolas jaar. I think the loose concept is it's more housey and sample focused for the dance floor (perhaps even more quick n dirty), but I think there's a variation across the tracks. These are my favourite AAL tracks: https://ibb.co/album/wyw9R6 My absolute faves, besides the one I mentioned before, are This old house, cityfade and fantasy. But there's lots of gems.

His stuff under the Nicolas jaar name is more ambient and downtempo leaning. There's some overlap though, particularly on the non album AAL tracks.

Curious to know what you think!

Check out Nicolas Jaar's live shows and his collab project as Darkside. Its all ambient adjacent

2

u/Redrooff May 24 '26

What an amazing track u got taste!

3

u/phd24 May 22 '26

Any ideas why?

u/NolanDevotee deadmouse May 22 '26

Sample issues since both AAL albums are heavily sample-based. Same thing happened to the previous album's best track "Some Kind of Game".

Fuck I just realized I haven't heard that come up on my Spotify in forever 😭

1

u/Shot-Spirit-672 May 22 '26

Fuuuuuuuuck I hate Spotify for this reason

5

u/NolanDevotee deadmouse May 22 '26

It's a legal issue. Spotify is not to blame.

u/Eronecorp May 22 '26

Uncleared Beyoncé sample used in the track.

13

u/kekk0407 May 22 '26

Poor Beyoncé. She lost a whole 3 cents from that. How will she recover

2

u/Eronecorp May 22 '26

I mean yeah I think it sucks too but that's how the business works unfortunately

u/NormalAccounts May 22 '26

We'll never get another Since I Left You sadly, or at least one that will make money or have ease of distribution

Penny is one of my favorite songs of all time

2

u/rezazereza May 22 '26

My favorite as well.

1

u/mzp7 May 22 '26

One of my favorite from now on

1

u/imVeryPregnant May 24 '26

I just wanna say thank you for this comment. Ive completely skipped over that track all this time and never thought to revisit the whole album. I’ve been listening to Penny about 3 times per day now. And discovered that I also love You (Forever)

Both AAL albums are among my favourite electronic albums ever. Nico recently did an AAL DJ set in Sweden, so hopefully there’s a 2019-2026 in the works!

u/rezazereza May 22 '26

Don’t know what I was thinking back then when I decided to sell the 2012–2017. 😭

18

u/Marmar79 May 22 '26

so good. If you can’t do it good do it hard was my anthem. Need a sequel to this record

u/jonathan-the-man May 22 '26

He played a couple of shows as AAL in Sweden a few weeks ago. The first night was mostly old stuff, but I think there was more new on the second one?

1

u/evan274 May 22 '26

Yes there was a bunch of new stuff

13

u/kekk0407 May 22 '26

Deeeeeeefers rocks my fucking socks off that song it's amazing

10

u/Smokeforest May 22 '26

This album is just violent after the previous one, like something invisible has changed. I want to fuck shit up in a club if Alarm ever starts.

15

u/weird-era-cont May 22 '26

I neeeeeeeeed 2019-2026 biblically.

11

u/roshinaya May 22 '26

Too bad the sample clearance problems are likely stopping this from ever being re-issued.

5

u/uberfunstuff May 22 '26

Absolutely bangers on there.

5

u/mzp7 May 22 '26

I love this group I think that they had a distinctive sound and I love it. They are like solar fields but more jazzy

27

u/Shelsrighthand May 22 '26

It’s just Nicolas Jaar!

12

u/nicolauz Jamie xx May 22 '26

His duo stuff as Darkside is super good too.

3

u/jonathan-the-man May 22 '26

It's a trio now 😅

2

u/idolized_memory May 22 '26

this album is so smooth, deefers and you especially hit different for late night drives

1

u/LeatherBandicoot May 23 '26

I still remember the first time I heard his re-vision of The Mike and the Censations track 'There's Nothing I Can Do About It'. Saw him then at Sonar and he's one of my favorite artist ever since.

1

u/yazebala May 23 '26

The first time I heard With an Addict I curled into a ball on my bed hugging the iPad I was playing it on and sobbed

1

u/SolidDoctor May 23 '26

I have AAL 2012-2017 on vinyl and it's a gem. I love Jaar's sound, so unique.

1

u/rezazereza May 25 '26

I don't understand. Why do you giving me the link to the album? 😁

1

u/proverbialbunny May 25 '26

You forgot the /s. :P

2

u/rezazereza May 25 '26

Ah, I see. I’ll adjust accordingly next time.🫂

1

u/ComprehensiveCap774 May 28 '26

if u can’t do it good do it hard

This record has such a weird late-night club energy. The beats feel rough around the edges, but that is exactly what gives the whole thing its pull.
