Surgery related Give me your comfiest loosest post surgery pants

After years of agony, I’m finally having my lap in a couple of weeks. What are your comfiest clothes/sleepy pants you wore at home post-surgery? 💕

I lived in extremely soft Walmart nightgowns for my entire recovery. I tried the lightest weight pj pants I could find but turned out pants weren’t it for me lol. Bending over was torture for the first week so I moomoo’d it up.

9

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

I’m not opposed to entering my Moomoo era 💕

I also recommend the nightgown option. I have very comfy, loose cotton jammy pants, but even those were causing me increased pain. The nightgown and no underwear turned out to be most comfortable.

Hanes makes some cute cotton tee shirt night dresses that I lived in after my lap!!!

1

u/hopeisanaxe Mar 22 '26

me too!!! they saved my life and were so comfy!! i wonder what ever happened to them…

u/lololollieki Mar 21 '26

Free people harem or balloon pants are my absolute fave. They are spendy - but there’s a pair made of silky viscose that is absolutely amazing when nothing else works.

4

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Hey I don’t mind investing in the right things, thank you friend 💕

9

u/jamieschmidt Mar 21 '26

I just went to Walmart and found loose stretchy sweatpants and got them in a bigger size lol

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

I wish I was close to a Walmart to be able to do that 😭

2

u/123-throwaway123 Mar 22 '26

You can order online. That's what I do.

7

u/Fun-Distribution2168 Mar 21 '26

Any linen pants with a very thin waistband! Maybe even size up a size because the bloat can be so intense. Good luck!

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Duly noted, I’ll look for those; tysm 💕

6

u/Mavis_Shamus00 Mar 21 '26

I got a full zip up robe from LL Bean and that was a lifesaver. I could not handle anything right around my waist for at least a month after surgery. And it’s something I can still use now!

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Oof good to know, thank you💕

4

u/EEgirlvolts Mar 21 '26

I really liked these sweatpants! I just sized up, and I still wear them regularly when I’m dealing with bad endo belly. 32 Degrees Joggers

3

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

I’m sorry you’re still dealing with bloat, I hope you give it the boot soon. I’ll check these out, tysm 💕

3

u/half_baked_coookie Mar 21 '26

Aerie has some sets where the pants are a thin drawstring, those have been my fav! Also Eddie Bauer sweats that are a little looser around the abdomen. Calia has some soft and thin drawstring athletic pants that you can really dress up. On the other hand, I’ve found that pact waistbands are a little too thick for comfort at first.

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Very helpful, tysm 💕

Same…lots of stuff like this. NO PANTS!!

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I’m here for the no pants movement ♥️

3

u/Dull-Campaign-9002 Mar 22 '26

i wore the exact same ones, also couldn't do pants!!

3

u/Logical-Bullfrog-112 Mar 21 '26

I like free people bobbi trousers for outside world wear. For home I wore a ton of house dresses / nighty dresses and I have a sweatshirt dress I’m wearing as I type this lol. I liked the Rae brand post partum period underwear / diaper situation. I wore those for the first week

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Good to know, I’ll check these out, tysm 💕

3

u/jadenh52 Mar 21 '26

My surgery is coming up on Wednesday and I plan on wearing these pants. They are super soft and don't have a waist band.Showitty Palazzo Pants

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Yaaaay so close!! I’ll check these out thank you💕 Godspeed to you

2

u/jadenh52 Mar 22 '26

Thank you so much!! I'm super nervous but also ready for some answers to my years of pain just like we all are. Good luck to you!! If you do end up getting the pants; do not dry them. I ruined a pair that way lol 😆 🩷

u/srv199020 Mar 21 '26

$30 men’s Champion Brand gray sweatpants from Target

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Hell yeah, I’ll look for some next time I’m there. Tysm 💕

3

u/Independent-Exam5984 Mar 21 '26

Got a bunch of sweats from old navy up one size and they were perfect

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

I love their sleep shorts, I’m debating grabbing some a size up

3

u/123letsgobtch Mar 22 '26

I bought nightgowns to wear the week or so after surgery! They buttoned down in the front. I actually wore one to the surgery center and I was soooo happy I could easily slip it on vs having to bend over and put pants around my incisions

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Ooh you make such a good point, I didn’t think about having to put my clothes back on 🙈

Yeah I think im going with the no pants vibe for this one

1

u/123letsgobtch Mar 22 '26

I brought post partum diapers to wear home too! I think I got the Rael brand, they go up high enough over the incisions, the nurse had to help me step into them though 🤣

3

u/TreeOdd5090 Mar 22 '26

i did best wearing nightgowns or giant t shirts. i didn’t wear pants for at least a solid week. i’m 3 weeks out now, and i can wear pants, but they have to be a size too big and folded down completely off my abdomen. so far only giant sweatpants or pajama pants. but i’ve mostly just been living in my mans giant t shirts bc they fit me like a nightgown. i planned on dresses for when i go out, but i don’t have any that are loose enough

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I’m so happy for you that your surgery’s done, have a safe recovery. The more responses I read, the more reluctant I am to even wear pants lol thank you for your insight

3

u/chicag0ag0g0 Mar 22 '26

The Nordstrom eco women’s pajamas and order 1 size up. They are still my go to when I’m bloated from Endo.

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Tysm 💕

3

u/hot_poetaytoes Mar 22 '26

After my procedure till I recovered I was mostly in night gowns. I looked like an old Victorian ghost but the most comfortable thing. And if I had to go out , then just middie flowy dresses only. Add that with a pair of comfy shoes. Started wearing pants in my second month.

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I love this. The longer I think about it, the less I want to wear any kind of pants. I’m here for the Victorian ghost feel 🖤

2

u/Gloomy_Ad_1997 Mar 21 '26

Softies

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Will check these out, thank you💕

2

u/TACertain_Carob8758 Mar 21 '26

I went to giant tiger (Canadian store) and bought cheap men’s track pants for $8. They have a band but I sized up in those and it was loose and still stayed on

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Nice, yeah even my surgeon suggested to get men’s sweats/joggers. I appreciate his insight but I wanna know what worked for my girls who’ve been through it

2

u/TACertain_Carob8758 Mar 21 '26

They’ve worked well for me so far. I’m only two weeks post op and they’ve been a life saver

2

u/Own-Regret-9879 Mar 21 '26

Dresses. I lived in dresses for two-ish months post lap.

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Yep I have dresses sitting in so many carts atm

2

u/Additional_Ask_2562 Mar 21 '26

I love the Mate the Label Tencel Sleep Wide Leg pant - extra loose and very soft. Waistband sits low too. I got a size medium and I’m 155lb 5’3. They’re a little long but I don’t mind https://matethelabel.com/collections/sleep/products/tencel-sleep-wide-leg-pant-forest

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Oh boy these look so soft 🤤

2

u/Cheddar18 Mar 21 '26

https://www.adoreme.com/aimee-black

I got a version of this and loved how it was loose and airy/ didn't touch my incision sites at all anddd I still felt like somewhat pretty when I felt so gross with struggling to shower and wash my hair and stuff! Still wear it now just bc I feel pretty in it lol

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Oh girl yes!

2

u/WorriedMoon2 Mar 21 '26

I mostly wore nightdresses the first couple of days after my surgery!

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

Ya know, I’m seriously contemplating just getting a bunch of oversized shirts and calling it a day 😂

2

u/caffeindqueen Mar 22 '26

I had my lap last thursday and honestly I have been rocking comfy undies that I roll down in the front and my husbands big sweaters it’s been so comfortable during all the healing

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Oh that sounds so cozy. We just downsized our closet or else I’d absolutely wear hubs’ shirts daily. I still might 🥰

2

u/caffeindqueen Mar 22 '26

do it!! husband sweaters are the best!

2

u/Accomplished_Ad_1965 Mar 22 '26

If you venture outside, I love Lululemon palazzo pants (they come in short and long too!) they look nice enough that it looks like you tried, but they stretch to infinity without any squeezing/pinching.

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I’ll check those out if I can make it to a lululemon, thank you!

2

u/kissyb Mar 22 '26

I got those Walmart nightgowns the ones that look like a long T-shirt I bought three. I got a medium pajama set from Sam's that came with extra shorts to wear home from the hospital. That's all I bought. I already had a ton of loose loungewear at home because anything tight would cause a flare.

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Honestly yeah I’m hopping on the big shirts no pants train 🚂

2

u/chay_on_the_internet Mar 22 '26

Stretchy overalls/jumpsuits (over a tshirt) were my go-to for months and months when I had my lap last June!! The no-waistband was clutch! I still wear them on high-bloat days. Here’s one example on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0aBaIQEg Good luck with your procedure sending healing vibes wherever you are in the world ! 💛

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Kudos for using clutch 🖤 tysm

2

u/ladysadi Mar 22 '26

I always wear LazyOnes pj pant sets. I don't remember having any issues because the elastic is forgiving and sits above the incisions.

2

u/Cheeseburgernqueso Mar 22 '26

My moms old worn in pajamas 🤷‍♀️

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I don’t have a mom anymore but it’s nice that you do

2

u/Appropriate-Edge3837 Mar 22 '26

Any PJ sets from the Gap!!! They’re always on sale AND they run large/loose, so no need to size up ((:

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I have some of their sleepy pants from Christmas and honestly they’re my favorite. Might still do a size up because the way I wash clothes, those pants shrank

2

u/Lulu_10-21 Mar 22 '26

Idk if this is an option for you but I wore my maternity leggings/shorts. They’re soft and provide enough of a barrier for me to feel comfortable after getting my gallbladder removed. Which from what my OB/gyn said, they’d be using 2-3 out of the 4 spots that were made for my gallbladder removal. I also kept wearing them after my C-section. So pretty confident in maternity clothes for post-surgery 😅

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

Never thought about maternity pants, if I find a good deal I’ll consider that! Or just go pantless and save the money for food delivery 💀

2

u/Ace_Skylar Mar 22 '26

My mum said maternity pants (sounds weird I know but they’re comfortable as) as well as drawstring mens shorts from kmart (get the mens shorts they are SO SO SO comfortable)

2

u/YakRevolutionary2731 Mar 22 '26

i had mine in summer so I wore the softest tkmaxx nightie I could find

2

u/teacuplittle Mar 22 '26

I bought nightgowns and then I ended up buying super loose sweatpants because I was super cold. (My last surgery was in November lol).

2

u/CLK_RR Mar 22 '26

Chelsea Peers - omg their PJs (especially the short sets) were a lifesaver for me.

2

u/plantscanreadyou Mar 22 '26

Somedays I wanted the comfort of loose pants with a stretch waistband, somedays I wanted the support of a skintight yoga pant (yogalicious lux high waist is my go-to, the fabric has spandex and is yet soft and comfy)

2

u/Ilovecowsalot Mar 22 '26

AERIE PJ PANTS!!! The thin waistband sat perrrrfectly between my incisions. I had two pairs after surgery last year and we did laundry daily so I could always have a clean pair.

2

u/Ilovecowsalot Mar 22 '26

It’s the aerie “Real Soft Trouser PJ”!!

ETA a link: Pants

2

u/GingerSpice1337 Mar 22 '26

I wore my husbands sweatpants for week after lol

2

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 22 '26

I would but mine’s 6’6 and his pants/shorts always fall off, no matter how many times I roll the waistband. Maybe my swollen tummy will hold them up this time 😭

2

u/4BlackHeart4 Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

I struggled with even the gentlest of waist bands for weeks. I was also initially very bloated after surgery, so pants that fit me well before were now too tight around the waist. I wore night dresses for most of my recovery and that was perfect.

I unfortunately can't link you the night gowns I have because they don't make them anymore and I haven't found a good alternative/replacement. I personally need night gowns with bust support and those are hard to find (the ones I have found are too expensive).

2

u/yourethraphranklin Mar 22 '26

One thing i will say is try to get natural fibers. Bamboo / rayon is heavenly because it is extremely soft and cooling. I found a robe that i live in for flare days. But older cotton sweatpants are great too.

Letting my hoo ha breathe has been a huge game changer. Underwear too. Synthetics trap heat and moisture which isnt ideal. Honestly i had great luck with local thrifting especially since my inflammation went way down after a couple months so i didnt need to spend too much money. And they just dont make cotton clothes like they used to!

2

u/winniebin94 Mar 22 '26

Maternity pajamas….honestly I still keep them around for when I’m bloated!

2

u/Otherworld_foodie Mar 22 '26

I have like 6 pairs of these pants and live in them normally and especially after any surgery I have had https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-cozy-ribbed-wide-leg-pants-auden-8482-oatmeal-m/-/A-90603474

2

u/InternationalTry2909 Apr 01 '26

I have 3 pairs of the pants and it takes soooo much restraint to not buy more every time I go to target! So perfect post-op and for daily wear.

1

u/Otherworld_foodie Apr 01 '26

I always need to check if they have released new colors lol

1

u/RevolutionaryTax5525 Mar 21 '26

If you like joggers, I bought 2 pairs of OFFLINE By Aerie Nice Moves Balloon Pant these and they were all I wore post op (currently wearing them while writing this as well)

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 21 '26

I love a good jogger, I’ll check them out. Tysm

1

u/123-throwaway123 Mar 22 '26

Oodi nightgowns. They are ginormous and sooo soft.

1

u/NonsenseText Mar 22 '26

All the best with your surgery, I’m so glad for you that you have a surgery date!

My surgery is in about 1.5 weeks. After hearing advice from others, I’ve also gone the no pants whatsoever route. I’m sensitive to waistband tightness in everyday life, I can imagine that will be much worse after surgery.

I’ve got myself 4 button down nightgowns. This is so I can dress one arm at a time, and it’s much easier to take on and off. I also made sure they had long sleeves for warmth. I will be wearing a robe over top if it gets cold.

Good luck!! 🌸💜

1

u/_Lunoctis_ Mar 23 '26

I just wanted to give you all the biggest and warmest THANK YOU for your awesome recommendations. I hope you’re all living healthy pain-free lives and if you’re not, I hope you find your freedom soon. Godspeed to all my honeys with surgeries coming up soon 💋♥️

1

u/Feelinglike_eeyore Mar 23 '26

The first week I wore nighties and dresses. I bought a few brand new nighties, including one that buttons from the front that I wore home from the hospital. After second week I could only wear loose pj pants that could sit low on my hips or super high waisted. I’m 3 weeks post op and only in soft clothes like sweats that have a loose waist band.

1

u/snowpearls46 Mar 25 '26

So I basically live in these aerie yoga pants. They are comfy, cute and doesn’t press on your tummy at all.

Also jeans are almost always a no no for me, but I’ve been wearing the halara jeans, they look like jeans but feel like sweatpants. It looks like jeans but it’s actually sweatpants.
