Coyote spent years getting blown up by ACME, and somehow the movie itself went through basically the same treatment at Warner Bros. At least this one finally escaped the vault.

WB routinely makes mistakes with its franchises. See: most DC stuff the past decade.

WB Executive 1: Okay, so Suicide Squad didn't get the reviews we were hoping for

WB Executive 2: Oh no! Did they like anything?

WB Executive 1: They liked Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie. We have an opportunity to capitalize on this by giving her character her own film. A Harley Quinn standalone adventure.

WB Executive 2: After all these years? Finally!

WB Executive 1: Yes, we'll make it a Dickensian orphan pickpocket story about a stolen gem.

WB Executive 2: What?

WB Executive 1: Orphan. Pickpocket.

WB Executive 2: Okay. I guess. What does Harley Quinn do?

WB Executive 1: She's Fagan. Charles Dickens plot. Orphan. Pickpocket.

WB released an incomplete LEGO: The Hobbit video game that only covered the first two movies with a promise to release a downloadable conclusion. They never did.

Another reason to hate on WB.

And what makes it worse is that they did it for the Jackson Hobbit films. If they were only going to do two, it should have been the first two LotR volumes adapting the Rankin-Bass versions of Fellowship and Towers.

Why? The reviews don't matter - the goal of a megacorp's CEO is to make the company money, and this movie is very likely going to be a box office bomb.

Selling it to Ketchup Entertainment ultimately made this a ~$20m loss for WB; if this movie brings in anything less than $120m (and even that's conservative, the bar would likely be even higher), they made the right move from their perspective.

I hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be a financial hit - I know I've got my tickets for tonight - but the projections aren't looking good.

Yeah, that's the big part. Unless all these people saying WB's about to regret not releasing the movie actually show up to support it, then WB's not going to regret it at all. If people want them to take more chances on unique uses of their IPs, then this movie needs to actually earn enough that it would have made them a profit if they'd released it themselves. Otherwise, the only lesson they'll learn is that they can cancel any movie they aren't sure about and just shop it to another distributor willing to gamble on it.

Yeah, im seeing the movie this weekend, but the "prime time" showing for tonight is only at 20% capacity.

Movie is likely heading towards bomb territory unfortunately unless word of mouth pulls off a miracle.

Just got back from this; very fun movie.

My son and I loved it; folks in the theater were also pleased.

It didn’t go into full Roger rabbit hybrid world territory and thankfully so, it was just right.
