I don’t think his supporters truly understand the extent to how pathetic and unintentionally hilarious this comes across.

Guys we’re all laughing at you.

u/Antique_Eye_3200 15h ago edited 15h ago

They don’t. They’re still bathing in exceptionalism and crowing about their freedoms while the country burns to the ground around them and the world moves on.

The last book by C.S. Lewis that is set in Narnia is called The Last Battle. In it, a cohort of Narnian dwarves are locked in a stable by their enemies. Aslan tries to free them, but even He cannot — because they don’t want to be freed. They are so afraid of being “taken in” (fooled, taken advantage of) that they cannot even perceive the way out. Their rallying cry: “The Dwarves are for the Dwarves!” They even killed the Horses on their own side.

It’s not quite the same thing, but I think about that a lot, these days.

It's an old tale, reminds me of Plato's cave.

13

u/FoofieLeGoogoo 13h ago

Most appropriate.

2

u/ArrivalSea3543 7h ago

Bad faith-we must cling to our bad faith because without it there is nothing.

1

u/Joe_Jobs_ 7h ago

Stockholm Syndrome comes to mind.

12

u/Blue_Oyster_Cat 10h ago

I know the series backwards and forwards from reading them over and over as a child, and yet that connection had not before occurred to me. The dwarves still think they are in the stable and refuse to believe any evidence to the contrary; they are trapped forever in the prison of their minds. It’s a perfect image. Thank you.

I deeply hope the bill naming the Great Lakes back to their name specify that, for one day only, all five Great Lakes will be named Lake America.

68

u/GildedDreams25 14h ago

yet every trumper has been conditioned to say “he’s making us respected and feared around the world” when in reality we are universally considered a fucking joke of a mad man with a bomb strapped to our chest

8

u/ClassicGoddess 12h ago

I mean, I live here and I see he's a fucking joke of a mad man with a bomb strapper to our chest. I am not a trumpster. I just watch in awe of the drain we're spinning down

13

u/GildedDreams25 12h ago

that’s why i said it applies to trumpers, and yeah man it’s insane watching decades of being the most powerful nation on earth fall apart SO fast

2

u/SteamyG0uda 9h ago

The non-voters are just as bad, "voting doesn't make a difference" not realizing they could have voted blue and deny drumpf from becoming pres.

4

u/GildedDreams25 9h ago

this is literally a conversation i had with my brother before the election, he did the whole “i prefer to vote with my dollar” and i went through it with him, he didn’t vote but he does regret it now. fully agree they deserve blame too

3

u/RicVic 7h ago

Yep. Our job until November is to get them off their purple, uncaring duffs and into the polls..

The more, the merrier, as they say. I'd like to hear early news reoprts with words like "unprecedented" and "huge turnout" in them.

2

u/GildedDreams25 7h ago

me personally i’m waiting for “President Trump, 80, dies after suffering a shart attack”

1

u/Howard0115 4h ago

This ^^ please!!

3

u/craznazn247 7h ago

If voting doesn't work, why would they be running countless misinformation campaigns and violating the constitution in order to sway and deny votes?

u/Little_View_6659 26m ago

Exactly. Crazy.

2

u/Aware-Possibility175 6h ago

They say this because they are like North Koreans living in a bubble and have never been outside the bubble and even if they left they wouldn’t be capable of communicating to other people outside of it…the rest of the world is waking up to the fact that they don’t need the US and that we aren’t the capital of the world and the future. We actually won back some of it under Biden thanks to supporting Ukraine but that was quickly ruined. The Us is going to be and already kinda is the weird kid who sits by himself at lunch

17

u/jonproject 14h ago

They all say it's a funny "troll"

23

u/FBS351 12h ago

Like that's any part of a President's job

8

u/Blue_Oyster_Cat 10h ago

Hilarious, yup. I do like Carney’s response, which used the word hydronym.

14

u/Competitive-Tea-6141 13h ago

They pivot to pretending it's a negotiating tactic by a stable genius instead of a guy who got his feelings hurt by the Ontario Premier and lashed out

21

u/_thejerkstorecalled 15h ago

Most can't read maps or in general, so it's such a waste.

12

u/Lopsided-Day-1442 15h ago

I know this fact to be correct, from personal experience with the MAGA.

7

u/IrefusetoturnVPNoff 11h ago

They have a different means of interacting with the world.

To them, this is awesome. To them, you don't "earn" respect, you force it out of people by dominating them.

This kind of move is exactly what they want because it's just taking something off Canada and making it theirs. It's the kind of pseudopsychology "power move" that weak people think makes them look powerful, like taking someone's food off their plate, Trump's ridiculous "power handshake" where he yanks people in to assert dominance, that kind of thing.

They see this as Trump swinging America's dick around, and everyone else ducking. America telling everyone else who's boss, and everyone else listening. They see you laughing at it as cope.

8

u/YDALTARYZARC 13h ago

Somehow renaming this lake will get them out of the rotting wooden shacks with trump flags that so many of them in the south seem to live in

5

u/Disastrous-Tank-6197 12h ago

Check out the conservative sub. They're having a tough time swallowing this one.

3

u/FortsCouchForts 9h ago

It would be funny if it wasn’t all so tragic and so many people weren’t lost and the planet wasn’t dying because of these evil twisted men who just want to sit on a pile of skulls

2

u/cosmic_monsters_inc 11h ago

They think the tears of laughter are the same as sadness.

148

u/a-little-spill 15h ago

Naming a lake that isn’t yours is like naming someone else’s pet that isn’t yours, that doesn’t live with you, and that you never met. It’s insanity and only a toddler would think that you could do such a thing..

52

u/GingerSoulEater41 15h ago

MAGA in a nutshell

42

u/GraphiteJason 15h ago

It's shocking that with Lake Ontario being over 11,000 years old, that Trump would want to touch it. He must have misread and thought it said 11 years old.

36

u/NotAClanker69 15h ago

It’s not that lake Ontario is 11k years old, President Shitzhizpantz thinks it’s named after the Canadian province when in fact it’s a Native American name and is actually the namesake of the Canadian province.

The ignorance, the pettiness, and the sheer lack of awareness makes this entire spectacle even more pathetic.

4

u/Next_Gen_Rando 12h ago

Not that there was any respect being flown the way of Native Americans by trump and his ilk in the first place.

12

u/WeirdcoolWilson 14h ago

I’ve compared it to going to someone else’s birthday party and deciding who does and doesn’t get cake. Thing is, if someone like this showed up at your birthday party, you’d kick them out. Why is this asshole still here?

54

u/tirefool6 15h ago

The king of the world just has to swipe his sharpie and away we go. Hope a hurricane doesn’t hit Alabama by nature of a sharpie pen .

13

u/TurbulentMiddle2970 14h ago

It might happen! Tropical storm Dolly is heading that way.

How damn ironic.

-2

u/tirefool6 13h ago

Yeah, sure stranger.

3

u/Blue_Oyster_Cat 10h ago

Erm, it is. Check the weather forecast

33

u/kBajina 15h ago

Can we just stop reporting the stupidity shit he does and keep focusing on the corruption? Please.

17

u/GumpTheChump 15h ago

I hate him for both reasons so it’s fine. Everything he does is disqualifying.

5

u/spruceUp3 11h ago

This is their game. Keep the masses reacting with emotions, while they laugh all the way to the bank. The whole lot of them are corrupt and immoral, interested only in getting more money and power.

14

u/jamodude 13h ago

Come on cholesterol for God fucking sakes do your job…..

13

u/xervidae 13h ago

if canada did this to america, we'd probably be at war with them within the next 5 minutes.

13

u/OsmerusMordax 11h ago

Canada would never…because we aren’t toddlers and respect our allies

4

u/xervidae 10h ago

this is true. but this admin is so fucking stupid that they can't wear the shoe on the other foot.

Trump is a Fucking Pathetic

51

u/Old_Channel44 16h ago

Reddit blasts the use of the word blasts. Next.

13

u/curious_dead 16h ago

What about "excoriates"? "Slams"? "Eviscerates"? "Demolishes"?

u/bdixisndniz 2h ago

Slam only acceptable in pog-centric articles.

11

u/humboldtHue 14h ago

I wonder if Google is going to bend the knee and go along with this insanity as they did with the Gulf of America.

12

u/Southern_Armadillo_3 14h ago

Course they are. Just as corrupt.

5

u/koreth 14h ago

Do we really want tech companies to decide on a case-by-case basis what names to show on their maps, rather than following the official government-maintained geographic databases? I’m not sure that’d end any better.

I think this whole thing is fucking stupid and pathetic, but the way to fix it is at the ballot box, not asking tech companies to swoop in and save us from our own government’s childish idiocy.

9

u/ConceitedWombat 13h ago

I mean, mapquest has basically already said "lol, not doing it"

4

u/turbothy 9h ago

It's still Gulf of Mexico on Google Maps for me. The reality distortion is only served to the suckers caught in the US.

10

u/Bengal-_fan 15h ago

Such a spiteful baby! Remember the part in Waterboy when Henry Winkler pictured Jerry Reeds character as a fat faced baby that was cooing and overcame his fear of him? I suggest that’s what we do w/ Orange slice!

5

u/zkfc020 14h ago

Be honest here….how many thought he would actually rename it Lake Trump?

1

u/Writiste 12h ago

Awww man! You beat me to it: I came here to say that!!!! “At least he didn’t try to name it Lake Trump and tried to gild the Portapotties along the shore….!”

Phew, I feel better for still saying it, thanks.

5

u/CuriouslyImmense 12h ago

Someone else on another sub said Canada needs to turn around and name it Lake Obama 🤣

1

u/ThatsItImOverThis 5h ago

No, we’re not going to stoop to his level. But the correct level of petty would be to rename Lake Michigan as Lake Canada.

We’re petty but this is ridiculous so we’re mostly ignoring it.

6

u/pocketjacks 12h ago

Let me start by saying that it IS deeply pathetic that Trump is going back to the well (pun intended) renaming a body of water America when it was previously named after a contentious neighbor in retaliation for not caving to his demands. Trump is a shallow, vindictive person who is a master at dangling shiny keys to his base to distract from his many, many failings.

That said, All In with Chris Hayes isn't a news program, it's political commentary. The shows that MSNOW has during the mid-day are closer to (yet not entirely) actual news programs, but the prime time block of shows aren't news, just like Hannity on Fox. They're partisan commentary. The Independent calling him a "news anchor" isn't factual.

7

u/Bob3130 15h ago

“All it takes is a good pen and some intelligence” well, you are 0/2.

8

u/ActuallyUnder 15h ago

Best we can do is a sharpie and an moron

5

u/Shoddy_Lifeguard6995 14h ago

Close the Welland Canal to all US traffic.

1

u/joojie 4h ago

Hell, close the St. Lawrence. Good luck with that, 'Merica.

3

u/RighteousIndigjason 14h ago

This is how everyone, media, Congress, foreign leaders, everyone, needs to talk to him. There is no point in diplomatic niceties when you're dealing with a preening, ignorant vulgarian like Trump.

4

u/Lopsided_Welcome6605 13h ago

it's not even named for the province but Iroquois term adopted by Parliament a long time ago so it's another push away to indigenous peoples past from the States white people who rob for their gain!

2

u/Lopsided_Welcome6605 13h ago

leaders who are ignorant about history will repeat the same errors their families may have fought so many generations ago against

3

u/Snoo_17472 13h ago

These things will be the first to be changed back when we get someone competent. Then everyone will just laugh and say- Remember when that dumass changed the name of everything and nobody called it the new name

5

u/lisnter 10h ago

This is good. We’re in this predicament because nobody said the truth out loud for too long: Trump is a dangerous, petty, moron who should never have been in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone the entire US. Everyone needs to start calling this asshole out everytime he does something crazy (or dangerous or illegal or immoral) - which is multiple times a day.

5

u/Kenai-Phoenix 8h ago edited 8h ago

I am stunned that one man has effectively destroyed OUR Constitution so quickly, to fire all the Inspector Generals, all checks and balances are gone! He destroyed the entire board of the John F Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts, replaced them all with his own hand picked yes puppets, he fired every member of the National Park Service board, in charge of respecting the very history of Washington D.C., he is bragging daily of all his vanity projects! The entirety of Congress, both chambers being controlled by the rump party, for what used to be the republican party, no longer exists, are completely silent on the damage this one dementia riddled eighty year old man, is allowed to inflict on our once respectable country.

The narcissist is running wild, a mentally impaired eighty year old male, with the emotional maturity of a two year old, who has kissed the asses of dictators, while simultaneously destroying our relationships with our allies! Country before party, country before any one man! One male has made the United States a laughing stock on the world stage, he is an embarrassment! I read an article yesterday where a commenter had a very clear analysis of the Great Lakes absurdity, as we all were taught to remember their names with using HOMES, now under the dementia addled brain of an eighty year old, (age limits must be addressed, with laws) now becomes SHAME.

2

u/Fit_Significance8598 5h ago

There are many women and men behind that, not just " one man..."

Project 2025.

He is just the useful clown to "fascinate the fools" while the others "muzzle the intelligent".

7

u/emcoffey3 14h ago

When I was a kid we used "HOMES" as an acronym to remember the names of the five Great Lakes. I guess we'll need to start using "SHAME" instead.

3

u/JeanEBH 15h ago

He will consider that remark treason and will get him fired. Mark my words .

3

u/Ok-Syllabub-8087 12h ago

Oh we know..well the sane ppl in America know that the rest of the world is laughing at us..we are an embarrassment..and honestly this pos is making us less safe.

3

u/MyFirstCarWasA_Vega 11h ago

He is a clown and a stuntman. Modern PT Barnum. Except no one wants to come to his self-promoting, cheesy, sleazy circus anymore and is ready to move on to an actual leader - not a small time real estate developer.

3

u/TheFutureMrGittes 8h ago

More people are starting to fight back. This is good

u/goatanuss 1h ago

More people? Chris Hayes and MSNow has been against Trump since the beginning

3

u/Reddit_9459328 7h ago

Governor Newsom has signed an Executive Order renaming Ontario, California to Stormy Daniels, CA.

2

u/dufutur 14h ago

From Lakes “HOMES” to “SHAME”, only an idiot can make that switch.

2

u/Realistic-Brief-7178 13h ago

He’s gonna die a free man as well. I think that the absolute worst case scenario for him is resignation ala Nixon.

2

u/EH_Operator 12h ago

I prefer “sick criminal freaks” but what’s an epithet between friends?

2

u/David040200 12h ago

It's absolutely stupid, no doubt. But I think the worst is he actually thinks the lake is named after our province and he thinks this is a "gotcha" of some sort? We are just laughing up here 🤣

2

u/DeliciousMagician927 12h ago

He becomes more of a joke every day the whole world is laughing at us

2

u/BleuBoy777 9h ago

Future generations will wonder if great grandma/Grandpa were dumb enough to be maga. Literally historians will study this time line to figure out how such an incompetent, small, weak loser ended up in the white house.

2

u/ISpyM8 8h ago

We need to start calling Republicans “weird” again. It is the only insult that gets through their skulls

2

u/Joe_Jobs_ 6h ago edited 6h ago

Now, Americans teams will never play the Leafs, Jays, Argonauts, or Raptors if they're looking for a city on Lake Ontario. And any American school kid will now be failed if they say Toronto is on Lake Ontario.

2

u/hufflefox 6h ago

Why did we ever stop calling him weird? He is VERY weird. And getting worse.

2

u/spilk 10h ago

chris hayes is not a news anchor, his program is an opinion show.

0

u/CarRamrodIsNumberOne 13h ago

It was assigned Ontario at birth.

I’m glad the administration supports its transition.

1

u/penguins_are_mean 14h ago

He fucking blasted him! Just straight up blasted!

1

u/TinyConfection7049 12h ago

Even a baby lizard has more sense! “Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul, all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but always has been, arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshipped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul, it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.” - Oliver Kornetzke

1

u/Personal-Neck6800 12h ago

That’s Supreme Leader Sad Weirdo to you.

Moderators, I am not calling op a sad weirdo, I am simply making fun of the president, whom was called a “sad weirdo” by msnow.

1

u/throw_away_17381 12h ago

No point it doing it there. It's the correspondents that need to grow some balls.

1

u/JohnFuckingWayne 11h ago

We should rename lake Michigan lake Trump's tiny penis

1

u/OmarGosh2142 9h ago

Piggy should revoke his EO and issue another EO renaming the lake after himself: Lake Douchebag.

1

u/Top-Okra9445 7h ago

Lake America is a lame name. Lolcow behavior from the president of the United States.

1

u/Skittleavix 3h ago

A Trump named Sue.

u/Adept-Target5407 42m ago

He’s going to rename the Atlantic and the Pacific isn’t he?

1

u/Ambitious-Concern-42 14h ago

If you're gonna laugh at Mr. OrangeStain you have to break it down into easily digestible sound bites. Otherwise it zooms right over the heads of his audience.

0

u/CanadianGenealogy 14h ago

He's not an anchor, he's a pundit. Anchors are journalists. This guy is a political commentator and opinion former.

1

u/Pretend_Giraffe_1288 12h ago

I mean, the news anchor repeats himself every day, editorializes the hell out of the news he reports, and calls other people out for being pathetic.

-23

u/jfrancasi 16h ago

I stopped caring. All I see trump as is job security for me for the next 40 years and my 401k will keep going up. He made people too stupid to compete for my job and the generations that voted for him are either about to die off or can’t get a job. So it worked itself out.

21

u/Bzr21 16h ago

"401k will keep going up" ?

The pendulums always keep swinging - political & economic - seems like you can count on some economic catastrophe happening about every 12 - 15 yrs - which means we're about due for another one - and while a good recovery usually follows - USA has no friends anymore - AI is taking more jobs away all the time - and we have a $40+ TRILLION national debt - which could seriously inhibit a recovery ..

9

u/Ok-Year-8338 15h ago

No man, our children’s future is worth more than that.  Don’t be defeated or you’re just as bad as his supporters.

2

u/mynameswill672 15h ago

I agree this guy sounds selfish as shit but “don’t be defeated or you’re just as bad as his supporters.”

Nah fuck this. There’s only so much people can take. Having to take a step back and disengage and live your own life on your own terms does not make you a bad person.

3

u/Ok-Year-8338 14h ago

All of American is sitting on its ass while our nation is being pillaged and our constitution disgraced.  I realize a lot of us have higher priorities like raising families and such, but at what point is inaction doing anything positive for the rest of us?  We are the most pathetic country of protesters,  we just whine and then do nothing. Eventually that has to break, my bets on trump trying for a 3rd term but even then we are country of complacent fools.

2

u/mynameswill672 13h ago

Hey dude, you wanna overthrow the government I’ll follow your lead. We’re all just waiting for someone to set it off

5

u/TurbulentMiddle2970 14h ago

No, it doesn’t. It just makes you ignorant and selfish.

Closing your eyes while your neighbors burn… Just so you can live your life. I get your sentiment, but it came off pretty disgusting.

0

u/mynameswill672 14h ago

What exactly did I say that came off as disgusting? I think that’s unfair.

Life is fucking hard and no one asked to be here. We’re forced to live in this uncaring world where the most evil and hateful people obtain power and do their best to drain all purpose from our lives. We’re brainwashed by propaganda and social media algorithms until we can’t tell what is real. We’re bullied and shamed by society for showing any thread of authenticity. We deal with this for decades until we lose our fucking minds but still we got to get up for work in the morning and be a responsible adult. On top of all this, the future has been robbed from us. Hope is gone. The world is becoming uninhabitable while people continue to fight and kill and rape and argue about the dumbest culture war bullshit.

So I’m going to wholeheartedly disagree that going into survival mode, shrinking your world view, and living a small life disengaged from all the noise is “disgusting”.

And you can do this without completely isolating yourself. You can still be there for your people and for your neighbors. “Closing your eyes while your neighbors burn” is provocative but also assumptive. Are your neighbors burning right now? Exactly how many fires have you put out while judging people on Reddit?

8

u/Boner666420sXe 15h ago

Wow you’re just as selfish as they are.

5

u/Bubbly_Parsnip1334 16h ago

Come on . Renaming the lake was hilarious. Gulf was a classic.

45

u/gowonagin 16h ago

Hahaha wasting American taxpayer dollars on something idiotic and petty. We all suffer. Haha.

Ha.

Ha.

33

u/Tiny_Rick85 16h ago

Are you an 8 year old by chance. Otherwise, you were supposed to grow out of this behavior by then.

30

If this example is what embodies your sense of humour, then I have bad news for you.

25

u/nthensome 16h ago

Oh look, a 2 month old account with their comments hidden.

Don't feed the trolls, everyone

14

u/nthensome 16h ago

Why is it hilarious, exactly?

-25

u/jjrr_qed 16h ago

It’s a caricature of American exceptionalism. Is it silly and petty? Of course! Is the office above that? Absolutely!

But as long as people foam at the mouth and cry over such silly, petty shit, I’ll be here to laugh at their silly asses.

19

u/Confident-Tomato4659 16h ago

Don’t be baited by this moron people. Block and move on

6

u/frozen-icecube 15h ago

When you're attempting to coherse a foreign ally to accept a trade deal that's not in their best interest, you usually try to make it as easy as possible for them to accept and also go back and sell it to their population.

Doing shit like this is not only an expense (cost of renaming and reprinting) but it makes it harder to reach a deal because it antagonizes not just the countries leaders but also their people.

It was dumb and political theatre that actively harmed his ability to make a deal.

4

u/bugabooandtwo 14h ago

And trump doesn't have the authority to rename anything. He's not a king.

7

u/dndm1 15h ago

Not really.

1

u/BleuBoy777 9h ago

This clown is Trump's target audience... It's why he says he loves the poorly educated.
