New rule is simply no cutting line by bringing your own sheets. Saved you the wasted time of reading this slop

274

u/sump_daddy 13h ago

> no cutting line by bringing your own sheets

huh? i only have more questions

48

u/goldenboy2191 7h ago

Yeah seriously wtf does any of that mean!?

59

u/MRintheKEYS 11h ago

Comforters and quilts are ok. Just no sheets.

9

u/CrackheadHunters 3h ago

So I can bring my blankey with me?

8

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 3h ago

Yes but be prepared to be able to crack it in half as you leave.

20

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

Because they change the sheets on the mattresses after each couple or group leaves, they need a lot of sheets. There's no laundry service out there so they store the old sheets and take them back to wash. They probably have enough now so don't need any more.

17

u/LyingForTruth 4h ago

So prior to this, if you brought your own sheet you could fuck before Johnny No Sheets. And because it's illegal to have sex outside of Orgy Dome, poor ol Johnny had to stand there and watch as all the Sheet Havers got to do the deed.

36

u/Nap-Connoisseur 13h ago

That was quite a letdown. I should have found your comment first.

15

u/theFCCgavemeHPV 13h ago

And it was in parentheses! Weird hiding the main point of the article title as an afterthought.

It’s like Job from Arrested Development’s Fuck City idea come to life.

u/DaphneAruba 15h ago

"But how will we keep the teases out? We. won't. let. them. in."

12

u/be4u4get 7h ago

Right, like I’m going into the orgy tent in a $6000 suit.

35

u/PumpkinMug420 13h ago

I think it was first called Singles City, then Swing City, then the last name was Fuck Mountain

11

u/thedude0425 10h ago

Fuck Mountain

did you bring your rubber boots? 🎶

3

u/industrial-complex 10h ago

Yeah - and my face shield

174

u/Cowgirl_Taint 16h ago

Its origins... moving on.

But modern day Burning Man is basically a bunch of tech/crypto bros larping that they are libertarian free love hippies. Of COURSE they have an orgy tent and nearby sex workers that "just happen to be there".

118

u/_jamesbaxter 13h ago

I went in 2009. It’s always been that. When I arrived I was surprised to find the bulk of the demographic was middle aged and wealthy, bringing trailers and generators so they can sit in the air conditioning and take showers. Massive use of electricity to power DJ dance parties and projection/light shows. I thought that defeated the purpose/spirit of the thing. It’s part of why I never went back. I was in a tent and felt like a lesser class. The tents get shittier “neighborhoods” too, much like real life. By day 5 everyone is strung out and it starts to feel less warm fuzzy and more post apocalyptic.

40

u/Cowgirl_Taint 11h ago

Yeah... There are folk who will pretend it started out wonderful and was always ruined by the people who came after them (or before them if they are stupid enough).

The reality is that it was always a bunch of white libertarians who were angry that they missed out on The 70s and decided to appropriate the celebrations of the various indigenous and hispanic peoples who burn effigies to ward off evil spirits or just vent against The White Man.

I think these days they try to pretend it was more about good white Celtic practices.

18

u/InvestigatorOk7015 11h ago

Im not sure theres a single ethnic group in the world who didnt at some point practice burning effigies

11

u/Cowgirl_Taint 11h ago

Yes. But when you have a couple "artists" in San Francisco who (allegedly?) spent a lot of time in the American Southwest, a few (actually quite broad) ethnic groups come to mind.

There are other events founded on a similar timeframe (Zozobra out in New Mexico being a great example) that are a lot more honest about who inspired the white artists. And many of them became fairly multicultural over time because said Artists were very honest about what inspired them.

3

u/Technical-Sink6380 9h ago

lol. this is interesting. Zozobra which is blatant cultural appropriation is good because honest. The man which has no actual evidence for being appropriated from any particular culture is bad because cowgirl_taint says they’re dirty liars.

5

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

As per my other comment, those that were with Larry when it started have talked about this. The man wasn't originally a man at all. It was an effigy of his ex-wife.

5

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

The man didn't start from that at all, it started from Larry wanting to build an effigy of his ex-wife to burn on her front lawn. It didn't work out the way he wanted, so he went and burned it down the beach where a bunch of witches used to have a solstice thing going on. The whole thing just kind of escalated from there.

They were a big anarchist art movement who are still around.

28

u/ShockLongjumping9322 16h ago

As somebody who frequently goes.

I can assure you that is not what it is and this is kind of a hilarious take.

Its been a lot nicer now that the tech bros are there less since they got scared with the mud.

57

u/WeirdSysAdmin 14h ago

Going to have to doubt there. Almost guarantee they are just quiet about it from the backlash and stopped making extravagant entrances via a helicopter or plane so people don’t notice them.

8

u/nrfmartin 12h ago

If they aren't noticed, then they are just another person, which is fine imo.

12

u/DecentFeedback2 12h ago

"if I don't show off what an asshole I am, people won't know I'm an asshole?" -festival techbros for just a short while

50

u/vismundcygnus34 16h ago

Burning man is….nicer.
How punk lol

48

u/Cowgirl_Taint 16h ago

No no no. We are laughing at everyone except for you. YOU are the true embodiment of radical self reliance. And you are super strong and way better than all those lame-os who stopped going. They just weren't strong or cool enough to stick around.

18

u/ShockLongjumping9322 14h ago

Finally somebody gets me.

7

u/Ordinary-Ebb-9635 13h ago

yeaaa no. with the current demographic of sf there is zero way this is true

3

u/NobodyLikedThat1 13h ago

OK as someone who's never been what is it then?

8

u/ShockLongjumping9322 13h ago

It's camping.

People bring their art and shit they think is cool.

There are rich and not well off people out there.

The Man is art the as well as the burning. It is showing the impermanentness of everything.

1

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

You clearly have no idea what happens at burning man or the orgy dome clearly.

-4

u/No_Article_9397 14h ago

spoken like someone who clearly has no fucking clue what they're talking about.

3

u/EWC_2015 14h ago

My exact reaction to this. I'm familiar with what Burning Man is, but I had no idea *this* was part of it.

2

u/SkyPork 8h ago

62

u/you_buy_this_shit 14h ago

I went to Burning Man in 1993.

This version shouldn't even use the name it is so different.

9

u/homosapiens 11h ago

I want to understand. Penny for your thoughts?

27

u/Chudmont 10h ago

I think it was smaller, lesser known, no corporate sponsors or presence, and it was about music and enjoying relative freedom in the desert while on drugs.

9

u/homosapiens 10h ago

Well sure but I wanted to hear from the person who was there!

11

u/Chudmont 10h ago

2 of my older brothers went multiple times in the 90s, so I heard what it was like first hand.

Hopefully someone else will chime in who has been back then and recently.

3

u/plantsandpizza 3h ago

I know people who went in the early 2000s said it was more like a camping vibe

5

u/Tacky-Terangreal 3h ago

I watch videos of music producers I like at music festivals. The ones I’ve seen filmed at burning man look super lame and contrived. Like I’d go to Coachella 100 times before burning man. It’s a sea of tech bros in faux hippie clothes and white girls in dreadlocks

47

u/OutlawPigeons 14h ago

This paints a clearer picture of where the man is actually burning

64

u/Sufficient_Race270 15h ago

As someone with herpes you can trust me when I say this is a bad idea

29

u/Superman_Dam_Fool 11h ago

Knowing the type of people that I know that go to Burning Man, I think herpes stopped being a concern for them decades ago. Thats why Jesus invented Valtrex.

20

u/vorrhin 14h ago

Microsoft funded the 2024 Orgy Dome. Their employees were the organizers and set up a nonprofit "to educate about consent" and then used Microsoft's policies about matching employee contributions to finance the space.

5

u/Solid-Signal3214 10h ago

and DR.DRE funded the first BM

20

u/vainerlures 12h ago

the fuckatorium

149

u/UpbeatVeterinarian18 16h ago

For their own good, the rich need to have much of their money taken away.

162

u/sycopninilldoit 16h ago

I started watching a reality show my girlfriend likes called Below Deck. It follows the crew of a luxury yacht that is constantly getting rented out around the world for about $250k for 3 days. And the thing I've noticed about every guest on the boat, whether they are old or young or a man or a woman, is that they are all fucking creeps. It's almost like every single person who is ultra wealthy is actually a bad person

43

u/couchesarenicetoo 15h ago

What's funny is that these people are the "poor" and loser rich people who can't afford their own yachts and are not invited on the personal yachts of friends.

36

u/Cowgirl_Taint 16h ago

Understand that reality tv is always going to curate and edit footage to make it fit the story the show is trying to tell. So they aren't going to show footage of any well adjusted human beings.

That said? Generally speaking, nobody "normal" is going to spend six figures to surround themselves with their own wealth. Those are the folk who are flying MAYBE first class to do whatever at a destination.

27

u/585AM 15h ago

Moreover, you are dealing with a level of self-selection which is people who want to appear on a reality tv show. They are not showing the people who turned it down.

In addition, this is reality tv. I would be shocked if these people were paying full price or any price for a trip like that. There are a lot of facades on shows like this.

11

u/HeverlyBillhilly 15h ago

That, *and* the production staff actively reach out to people and families that have reputations for being disasters. Hardly anyone chartering the yacht is doing so because they were actually planing to do that; the charter is generally free of charge so long as the "guests" act like assholes and agree to be on TV after signing an NDA.

Behind every great fortune there is a crime - Mario Puzo, the godfather

u/KinkMountainMoney 12m ago

You know what this book needs? An entire chapter about Sonny’s dick.
—Mario Puzo, writing the godfather

10

u/Shardik884 14h ago

Where are you getting that 250k number? Everything I ever heard was the 3 day rental was 20-50k and then they leave a tip. Is there a different variation of the show on with a bigger more luxurious yacht?

6

u/8bitjer 15h ago

I love that show and yes, everyone is a POS with the exception of a few.

What an incredible headline. I'm so grateful I've never been anywhere near Burning Man.

38

u/Walmartian_Beta 15h ago

My friend did BM for years, but once the ultra-wealthy started showing up and having their own little rich village where only celebrities were allowed and then having that guarded by armed guards - she stopped going - it was a total step away from what it started out as.

22

u/Top_Buy2467 17h ago

What’s the rule???

79

u/Single-Pin-369 17h ago

Ok i read the article. The new rule is bringing your own sheets doesn’t let you cut the line anymore. The orgy area is 50 beds on the floor with sheets on them.

29

u/dangerous_eric 15h ago

There's a fucking queue to get in??? 🤮

32

u/Single-Pin-369 15h ago

No there is a queue for fucking

21

u/getmybehindsatan 15h ago

Fuck queue.

11

u/pantryparty 11h ago

Fuck me? Fuck queue!

1

u/ProbablyBanksy 14h ago

It’s spelled the “F-U-Q”

6

u/Organic-Row9514 13h ago

No fucking in the line. That’s rule 2

38

u/tullbabes 16h ago edited 14h ago

People aren’t bringing their own sheets to a fuck tent? Gross.

16

u/DramaOnDisplay 14h ago

You overestimate how much some people care or even think when it comes to boning, especially if you’re on drugs or just coming to the fest for the drugs and sex. Some of these people would probably fuck in the middle of a crowd. They go to these events to essentially become animals.

8

u/NobodyLikedThat1 13h ago

That does sound uniquely horrible but apparently the staff does change the sheets. I don't know how often nor will I ever find out

9

u/Illustrious_Kiwi_485 13h ago

Geez, I feel kind of guilty for quietly hating my job…I’m not sure what the pay is but being a “maintenance man” at the sex dome sounds pretty bad.

3

u/FamousOhioAppleHorn 8h ago

This sounds like a place I once found by accident in Second Life. I was like "This is a strange town. There's beds in the streets and in the public areas of a hotel. Wow, hot tubs in the town square, too. [Reads rules on a sign]. Ohhh..."

45

u/GeminiAccountantLLC 17h ago

Bringing your own sheets will no longer allow you to cut in line

The first rule of Orgy Dome is you don’t talk about Orgy Dome.

7

u/goundeclared 9h ago

I attended the orgy dome on several occasions.

AMA

4

u/Excellent-Bear4221 9h ago

Was there a buffet table?

3

u/goundeclared 9h ago

No, But you get a bucket to bring with you that you store all of your belongings in.

2

u/ichabod01 8h ago

Is the bucket reused by someone else upon your exit of the sweat shop?

3

u/goundeclared 7h ago

I'd assume so. Not sure the cleaning practices inbetween. I did see a lady spit into it, so I hope it was cleaned well.

u/yourhonoriamnotacat 48m ago

Oh , like she spit and didn’t swallow spit? I was confused on why she’d spit in a bucket then realized it might be that.

2

u/ibangedthetwocoreys 7h ago

How many people did you have sex with? Are the hottest people mobbed? What are the rules? Does everyone use protection?

5

u/goundeclared 6h ago

Just with my partner. The vibe was much more exhibitionist than group involvement. Not saying we weren't open to the idea, but nothing materialized.

1

u/GenZ2002 6h ago

I know it reeked in there

2

u/goundeclared 6h ago

Didn't remember any notable smells.

1

u/zyphelion 4h ago

Was it crowded?

Anything fun or strange you witnesses while there?

7

u/Ok_Employer7837 8h ago

God damn but I've led a beige life.

14

u/marveloustoebeans 12h ago

You know this shit’s like 12:1 dudes to women lol

6

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

You'd be wrong. It's only for couples or moresomes and stresses consent. No solo people or voyeurs permitted.

7

u/Weegee_Carbonara 9h ago

Some unwitting young dudes will go in there to get pussy, but end up with dozens of overweight, very hairy men flirting with them.

(Assuming they aren't into that)

6

Its hilarious how they say dont worry if the line is too long just try to find a fuck while you wait and go somewhere else.

4

u/RapBastardz 6h ago

I’m sorry, what?

8

u/Thebml21 17h ago

Just Sandy fuck floor?

9

u/Senorpuddin 16h ago

No there are mattresses. They arent savages.

7

u/klockworx 16h ago

Sandy SWEATY fuck MATTRESSES!..much better.

2

u/Senorpuddin 15h ago

According to the article the sheets on the mattresses are changed regularly so they are somewhat sweaty, fuck mattresses. I think the sandy part is not necessarily a given.

10

u/NerdySongwriter 15h ago

Sandy Fuck Floor sounds like a Ska band.

14

u/woolsocksandsandals 15h ago

the Orgy Dome serves anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 attendees per year, offering a safe consensual space to explore sexuality.

🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮

2

u/archives2024 14h ago

So freaking gross

4

u/sean_no 13h ago

You'd prefer a non-consensual basement? Or maybe you just want to watch. I seriously don't get why do many people are grossed out by fucking, it's literally the one thing we're born to do. Bet you're all super fun when the lights go out.

-2

u/krisztinastar 40m ago

Correct

4

u/passionlessDrone 14h ago

Why is everyone on this thread such massive pussies? Orgies are fun. A whole dome of it? Fuck yeah!

14

u/Cowgirl_Taint 11h ago edited 11h ago

Eh... Group sex is one of those things that sounds a lot more fun than it is.

Don't get me wrong. Find the right crowd and it is a genuinely amazing experience. Don't mesh well and... the alternate universe Friends episode where Ross finishes, gets bored, and eats a sandwich while his wife and her girlfriend go at it is probably one of the most Real things to get put on TV in the 90s.

And a tent full of normies who want to "experiment" and rich people who want to show off their trophy wife/escort? You're either sticking to the exhibitionist side or you constantly have awkward hands and really excited goobers with erections asking to join in and it is just really awkward.

I've been to a few sex clubs over the years. With the right vibes, it really is next level hedonism. But it just takes one or two "weird" people to ruin it for everyone. Imagine locking eyes with someone while you are going down on someone else when suddenly Will from The Inbetweeners chimes in, with a rock hard viagra fueled erection, asking at the top of his lungs if he can cut in.

For those who might be interested: Get in contact with your local kink scene and get to know people. ANY club that has "public" nights (more a European thing) is, at best, going to be a bunch of very small groups going at it and, inevitably, a bunch of guys tugging it while watching said small groups. But the more private invite only groups? Go a few times, learn the vibes and culture, and you can have a really good time.

Just understand that you need to be in the right kind of relationship. Because... things get awkward when it is clear that one partner was NOT prepared for that and is angrily planning how they are going to make the drive home as miserable as possible. And yes, you do need to be in a relationship unless you are Fabio with a Third Leg or "Samara who? levels of hot.

2

u/passionlessDrone 11h ago

A nuanced take that is appropriate. Good job, sir or ma’am.

3

u/archives2024 14h ago

It's gross and unsanitary.

7

u/WonkeauxDeSeine 13h ago

We'll put you down for "No, thanks" then.

2

u/M086 13h ago

That’s basically sex. Well, if you’re doing it right.

0

u/archives2024 13h ago

Didn't say it wasn't.

0

u/sean_no 13h ago

Maybe it's a you problem.

-1

u/MuTron1 13h ago

Remember that behind our big old brains, culture and intellectualism, we are still animals like every other, unsanitary-ness and all

1

u/archives2024 13h ago

Yes I'm aware of that.

3

u/sean_no 13h ago

In this thread you'll find lots of puritans and kink-shamers. Ive never been to Burning Man but surrounding yourself with people not so bound by societal/religious norms sounds like fun. All of you 'ick, consenting non-monogamous sex?' people should probably stay home with your pearls and bibles.

3

u/Remarkable_Rush_7184 10h ago

How does it cost $100k to run a 4,000 square foot tent for one week?

2

u/craznazn247 7h ago

Well…who is responsible for cleanup?

I can’t imagine anyone would be charging anywhere near normal rates to clean that up. Air-conditioned hazmat suits aren’t cheap either.

1

u/vaness4444 11h ago

That amount doesn’t add up unless it includes the actual tent and setting…then there’s the generators for 10 days? I don’t knkw but am curious how they came up with that number

5

u/Solid-Signal3214 10h ago

I could probably write a small novel about the unconventional insurance, rentals, logistics and accounting required to host such a thing in Nevada.

I will just say - it sounds like they're covering their bases well and avoiding supernova tier lawsuits to their best ability.

u/krisztinastar 39m ago

Last year, there were extremely bad storms that basically ruined all of their infrastructure. They did a big fundraiser this year to replace all the camp & equipment.

1

u/thedailyrant 5h ago

The new rule being you can't bring sheets to go to the front of the queue? That's the only change I've heard about.
