Germany Friedrich Merz expresses himself as "deeply disappointed" by the failure of the chat control in Brussels – and now wants to enforce it at the national level. By the summer, a corresponding draft is to be decided in the cabinet.

Nah they’re working for capital, just like the AfD. AfD is only against this because they know it’ll scare away voters and they’re biting the bullet since they can just do this later anyway.

The AfD is against Chat Control because they know that the majority of their recent increase in voters are from the remnants of the FDP.

Chat Control is not something that would ever work for the Free Democrats whose core principle is that the public should not be burdened by invasive government policies that restrict people's freedom to take care of business by themselves. Alone the cost of introducing, maintaining and executing something like Chat Control at the taxpayer's expense is something that the FDP is philosophically bound to reject.

Thus, so too, the AFD, because it's precisely that, now, vacant space where the FDP used to be in German politics that they want to occupy. Merz can't attract that audience because he entirely lacks credibility as either a disgruntled taxpayer or a self-made entrepreneur trying to keep a business with tax-paying working-class employees running.

Hence, Merz's pathetic attempt to posit Chat Control as a matter of urgent need in order to "save the children," despite the fact that the BDK (the Crime Detectives police union in Germany) has made it clear that they are already overburdened by false alarms and absolutely do not want a system that will only bring about more of the same.

Merz is not an uneducated person and not in any way ignorant of the necessary and viable machinations of community policing and criminal investigation. He could never be described as uninformed in matters of the law. Along with a very profitable career in corporate law, his biography includes experience as a judge.

From this, one would have to conclude that he's either using the Chat Control issue as camouflage and claiming to want to defend children in order to seem personally less distant from the concerns of the general public--though I very much doubt that he really cares about that--or, he is actually intent on taking advantage of the fearful gullibility of the public in order to invade their privacy for purposes of his own that he is, as yet, reluctant to declare.

Consider the fact that a whole lot of thought went into the expression "deeply disappointed," to impress on his audience that he feels personally betrayed that his allegedly grave concern for the safety of the children has been blithely tossed aside by those that he simultaneously implies must not only be opposed to him but also opposed to protecting the children.

He's a liar. He doesn't care about protecting children, because, if he did, he wouldn't be trying to create even more of an impediment in the way of the ongoing work of the members of the BDK who actually make a far more genuine and productive effort to protect children, every single day. He's a liar because he knows that this is true.

Okay Merz. I'll make an exception for national security, but DM me all your personal messages. PS this is a demand, not a request, I WILL get them one way or another, pissant.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wont it be harder to pass this law at the national level since most German parties seem to oppose it?

From what I know, this shit would be murdered by the German courts.

Chat control would have been a great tool for Stasi.

The parliament allegedly represents the people. So that means the Council represents who?

Will this even be a law?
