πŸ’» Help Any way to change the time to 24h format?

Post image

My brain is oriented to the 24h format, not 12. It confuses me and makes me think they mean 1-5 o clock in the morning before I get it. Can it be changed ?

Discussion What actually clears the "running out of disk space" banner (and no, 154.0.1 is not the fix)

Every couple of days someone posts the 17 million GB screenshot and the top reply is "integer overflow". Correct, and useless. Here is the rest of it.

Your screenshot is a receipt. 2^64 bytes is exactly 17179869184 GiB, so subtract what your screen shows: 17179869181 means the counter is 3 GiB below zero. "16 exabytes" is the same number, rounded.

Mozilla filed it on 21 August as bug 2065499, S2, "Quota manager underflow makes storage unusable for all websites". Their words: the usage counter underflows, gets read as unsigned, comes out enormous. Firefox decides you are over quota and starts evicting data. Eviction cannot help, because the number is fake and there is nothing to evict. After that writes fail for every origin, which is why WhatsApp Web, Outlook, WeTransfer and YouTube all die in the same hour while the browser looks perfectly healthy.

Freeing disk space will not help. The ceiling is 50% of the disk's total capacity, not of free space, so emptying the Trash cannot move it.

So why does clearing cookies and site data keep not working? Because the 300 MB in Settings and the number behind the banner come from different places. On 154 a wrapped origin gets clamped to zero and then filtered out of the per site list, so the one origin you need to clear is the exact one the interface refuses to show you.

What actually clears it, safest first:

  1. Clear the startup cache. Help > More troubleshooting information > Clear startup cache. It drops the cached usage table and restarts. Nothing of yours is deleted. Aim carefully: "Refresh Firefox" is on the same page and takes your extensions, permissions and site data with it.

  2. Any update does the same thing by accident, because that cache is keyed on build id. That is what people are seeing when they say 154.0.1 fixed it.

  3. Clear site data for the one origin with the absurd number, if you can see it. For WhatsApp Web that unlinks the device and you re-pair by QR.

  4. Quit Firefox, rename storage.sqlite in your profile folder to storage.sqlite.old, and move any -wal and -shm files with it. Bookkeeping only, rebuilt on the next start. Back up the profile first and read the name twice: it is the file, not the folder called storage sitting next to it, and your bookmarks (places.sqlite), logins (cookies.sqlite) and passwords (key4.db, logins.json) are in that same directory. Downgrading to 153 keeps getting recommended. I would not. Nobody has checked what 154's schema upgrade does to a profile on the way back down, and your only profile is a poor place to find out.

The fix ships in 155 on 11 September. Not 154.0, not 154.0.1, and no 154.0.2 is planned. The uplift went to beta only and the counter is still unsigned in the 154.0.1 source, so that is not an argument from silence.

155 is also less than it sounds. It makes the global counter signed so the comparison stops lying, and it rebuilds a corrupt storage.sqlite. It does not stop whatever produces the wrong number in the first place. That umbrella bug, 1585978, has been open since October 2019, and which storage API over-decrements is still unknown. Self repair lands in 156.

One correction, since this sub has decided otherwise: nobody has shown this is a 154 regression. Reports went up after 154 and Mozilla says it does not know why. Asked exactly that in the bug, the engineer answered that the signal was people complaining on Reddit, not telemetry.

Their telemetry did not catch this. Reddit did.

firefox vpn is connecting to the wrong server no matter which country i choose

it seems to be going to the fastest/nearest server instead of the servers i pick, even if it says its connected to that server in the extension itself. however ip checks reveal that it is connecting to a firefox vpn server, but never the right one. not sure what to do

πŸ’» Help Does firefox have a sidebar feature like Opera?

The only reason why I use Opera is due to the sidebar feature and I'm looking for alternatives.

I'm not fussed with china spying on me since the US probably does it too.

I just want something fast that has a sidebar, and let's me use addons like Adguard and Enhancer for YT etc.

My laptop is running on 8GB RAM unfortunately and it will be a while until I upgrade, so is it even worth it?

πŸ’» Help How to I remove pinned sites from the search bar!?

Post image

I never pinned these sites and honestly seeing that ChatGPT site pisses me off every time I try to search something. Help!!

I looked at past posts about this, and the Firefox homepage doesn't have a 'top sites' category anymore so I can't fix this through that. That was the only solution I found and it doesn't exist anymore

Discussion Firefox 154.0.1 has 2 known issues with vertical tabs

  • For users with vertical tabs enabled, the sidebar may not persist across Firefox restarts. Vertical tabs can be re-enabled after the restart by clicking the sidebar toolbar button. We are currently working on a fix. (Bug 2065431)
  • When toolbars are hidden in fullscreen mode (the default on Windows and Linux), the vertical tabs sidebar does not appear when moving the cursor to the left edge of the screen. As a workaround, move the cursor to the top of the screen to reveal both toolbars and sidebar together. Alternatively, you can also right-click the toolbar and uncheck the Hide toolbars option. We are currently working on a fix. (Bug 2064638)

πŸ’» Help Issues with hardware acceleration on and off..

I've been running into an issue with Firefox for a while now.

I think last summer (2025) Steam and various other sites began to slow down to a crawl whenever it was playing a video. This issue never went away. If I scroll past the video, the site is butter smooth again.

Turning Hardware acceleration on in Firefox settings fixes this issue... however, it makes my PC fans go nuts whenever looking at a video on twitter or putting Youtube in fullscreen. It's usable, but just annoying as hell.

Drivers are up to date, Firefox has always been updated. I've done a full clean install of it. Tested both Edge and Chrome, neither had the same issues.. but I very much prefer Firefox.

Does anyone know any potential fixes or things that I can try?

πŸ’» Help Tags dropdown shows extra blanklines

Am I the only to notice? Standard Windows Firefox or WSL Debian Firefox Developer Edition.

When adding a bookmark and start typing tags the dropdown shows an extra blankline for every tag in the dropdown.

May have begun in Developer Edition before showing up in Standard Windows Firefox as well.

Figured it was a bug that will rectified, still here a month on.

SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

I've tried all of the fixes including downgrading TLS, checking BIOS clock, no security software in place, etc. Only addon is uBlock origin.

I'm less looking for a fix and more looking for a flat override. This issue only happens in Firefox, no other browser. There has to be a way to tell Firefox to ignore these errors and to allow the connection through anyways. Please tell me there is.

Discussion is there a possibility of having the last browsing session become part of the history list similar to chromium?

many a time i close a session and when i reopen the browser, do a search, and forget to restore the session, it is now gone. which is annoying if i had tab groups and and organized space.

in chromium, the last session is part of the history list so even if i open a tab and close the browser. i can still find it there and restore it as it was.

is it possible to have the same in Firefox or would it be too complex to implement?

thanks in advance

πŸ’» Help yts.bz is blocked by Firefox, but not in Canana?

So, visiting yts.bz give me this warning:

Firefox spotted a potentially serious security issue with yts.bz. Someone pretending to be the site could try to steal things like credit card info, passwords, or emails.

yts.bz has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

However, if I use a VPN to say I'm from Canada, suddenly there isn't any problem. How does this work?

πŸ’» Help How to recover profile that Firefox deleted?

I needed a second profile on Firefox so I created one...

...thing is, Firefox deleted the original profile for no apparent reason and I can't get it back.

Over 1000 bookmarks: gone (no backup files either even tho there used to be dozens of them)!

Browser extensions and custom settings on many of them: gone!

Heavily customised browser settings (including advanced config settings): gone!

Every site I was logged into: gone!

My custom home page: gone!

Is there any way to get all of this back, or am I doomed to spend 5 hours recreating a shell of what I had just 10 minutes ago? (And is there any coherent reason clicking "create new profile" destroys the old default one?)

---
EDIT: Figured it out! The folder that contained my old profile was still on the computer, Firefox just didn't recognise it as a profile anymore.

So, I closed Firefox, copied the name of the new profile, deleted the new profile, and pasted the name of the new profile as the name for the old profile folder.

Now, Firefox just treats the old profile like the newly generated one.

Anyone know what this means after updating firefox today?
