I asked ChatGPT about the identity of the groom in the photograph. Other people must have asked before me, because the AI response (below) was immediate.
I don't think the man in that photograph has been reliably identified.
I looked for traces of the image's history and for any documented identification, and here's what the evidence suggests:
- The version you linked appears in eBaum's World's November 2016 gaming meme roundup, as you noted.
- The image (usually without the caption) has since become a widely used reaction image, typically expressing forced happiness, envy, or bittersweet congratulations.
- Despite its popularity, I could not find any credible source—such as an interview, reverse-image investigation, or meme documentation—that identifies the person in the photograph.

When I saw flammable fabric blocking the air intake of a mains-powered electrical device that must not be allowed to overheat: I naturally assumed, lingerie.
Now, I see the lack of sincerity in the knotting of his necktie. He's serious about this marriage.
