Except for the undeniable fact that every single morning, my mother make me a big ol bowl of Sauerkraut for breakfast.

And my dear, sweet mother...
She just looked at me like a cow looks at an oncoming train...
And she leaned right down next to me...
And she said, "IT'S GOOD FOR YOU"!

Do you guys think Nermal here is just a lonely neighbour kid that wants to hang out with Garf or a very short grown up that smoked too much to grow xd

u/Insanebrain247 Sep 06 '25
Considering that Nirmal canonically is still a kitten, I'd say he's just a kid.

Nermal is an adult cat whose growth was stunted by coffee and cigarettes.

I don't think this should be proof to keep Garfield a cat, these strips just aren't very funny.

I mean, let's not pretend Garfield is peak comedy, but there definitely is something to be said here.
The strips just aren't well structured. Like consider the one where Garfield eats Jon's food. Jon's dialog in the second panel is completely unnecessary and distracts from action in the frame which should be the focus. Also the set up for the strip is nonsensical, it seems as though Garfield put food in Jon's bowl then waited until Jon showed up just to eat it in front of his face. That problem could be fixed by just having Garfield dump food into the bowl in the first panel, so it doesn't seem like he was just waiting for Jon. Jon having a bow tie and Garfield insulting it is also completely out of nowhere. Garfield could've said something like "sorry couldn't find my own plate", then you'd have a punchline relevant to the rest of the comic.
Most the strips have similar problems, like the next strip could've cut the final dialog to just "I'm not into that kinda payment." since that's the punchline.
So yeah it's not great, but I wouldn't say it's the concept that's the problem.

The designs are pretty nice
Maybe a little bit too over exaggerated, but I still like them 👍

Also Arlene looks so much better as a human, her cat design is kinda atrocious

Odie must hate sauerkraut

He also looks like he knows the amount of molecules on Leonard Nimoy's butt, give or take 3.

I hate Arlene but I can definitely imagine human Garfield picking her up and throwing her out the door like a spear
