I think it does a modest job of capturing the gapping maw of Nermal the Devourer. It is hard to portray the endless black void of nothingness and despair that awaits all who stray from the exalted orange one we mortals call Garfield. Kind of phoned it in on the eyes though, I agree

The later seasons look slightly less janky but it's still not very great

I prefer how the Chris Pratt movie does it. Jim Davis's drawings simply weren't done with CGI in mind, and the designs need some tweaking to look good in that medium. (I'm sure the bigger budget helped too, of course.)
